The same happens in the men's league, and in all the NPLs in Australia which have A-League reserve teams. In fact, the Pissant's reserve team just won the SA NPL by like 8 goals in the final

I'm sure it happens all over the world where you have big teams playing their reserves in the divisions below them.

Interesting results this weekend, especially Western Suburbs hammering previously Eastern Suburbs 4-0.

Makes the league very close with just 2 points covering the top 5, with Auckland United and Southern United in the top 2 (grand Final) positions - they play each other this weekend in Auckland.

Wellington United came from 2-0 for the second time this season to win, beating Wellington Phoenix 3-2, they take on Western Springs on Sunday in a rematch of the Kate Sheppard Cup semi final - game is 3:30pm Kick off on Sunday at Newtown Park

Wharfies aren't far off the pace either just 3 points behind the leading pack and they should get a win against bottom place Ellerslie at Martin Luckie on Saturday (3:45pm Kick off)

Hmm, that Wharfies- Ellerslie game was until recently a 3:30pm kick-off, now no chance of getting to the Cake-tin straight after.

Pushed back? Will be the earlier men’s game which was on a Sunday a while back.

I thought the pride v Nix game was scheduled for Sat but I see it is now on Sun??

Bit of a shame the league is only 1 round this year - at the very least, it seems inexcusable that there's no semi-finals. But great to see how even the likes of Ellerslie and Central have started properly challenging teams.
Credit to Ellerslie who punished a bumptious Suburbs team and suddenly Suburbs have gone from sitting pretty on top to having their destiny out of their hands.
Central also gave Southern a mighty shake-up and I thought the final scoreline flattered Southern. But suddenly they're in a great position for a final spot the way I read things. They'll definitely have to step it up against Ellerslie though or they'll suffer the same fate as Suburbs.

Disappointing failure from WSAFC. Vink out.

Good showing by Southern United. One win away from a grand final. No one would have picked that at season start.
With a potential 2nd ALW team next year. There has been a lot to play for. Just such a shame the comp is only one round and about to end.

Auckland United and Southern United into the Grand Final - both for the first time ever!

Pity for a lot of these players, no Auckland ALW team until 25/26 season

Are they not going to be around in 25?

No idea, I guess many will be for a lack of better options. Some like Lancaster could find a pro opportunity elsewhere prior. A few domestic based Kiwis got picked up by other non Nix ALW clubs this season.

But more was thinking most on that list  would be excited by the potential opportunity to sign for NZ's 2nd pro ALW team in 6 mths, rather than waiting 18 mths. Though understand the rationale of Foley just launching the ALM team initially.

So who will the Central teams be this year? Barely-disguised Diamonds and barely-disguised-Karori again?

Yes, it is Wellington United and Karori again with Capital Football. I can remember the numbers they are allowed, but they will be able to recruit in players from other teams as well for the league.
I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

Going to be an interesting season.

Auckland Utd must be the favourites and will be surprising if they don't take out the title, stacked side and still unbeaten this year.

WCR look strong also - and you wouldn't write off Suburbs/Springs either.

Canterbury and Southern look strong of the federation sides.

Not sure about Karori and Wellington Utd - but Phoenix could shock a few.

Central probably struggle again.

Let's see how many pro and scholarship players help them out week in - week out. Especially during those first few weeks before the A-League starts. In the first game last year I think they dropped Emma Main and Mackenzie Barry from memory - taking the piss just a bit. Calls into question the integrity of the comp and makes me think of the old saying 'Just because you can, doesn't mean you should'. Hopefully Callum gets the balance right this year and doesn't abuse the privileged position they have been afforded.

Harder to predict than the men's but I'll give it a go.

1. Auckland United (GF winners)
2. West Coast Rangers
3. Western Springs
4. Southern United
5. Canterbury United
6. Eastern Suburbs
7. Wellington Phoenix Reserves
8. Wellington United
9. Waterside Karori
10. Central Football

There's a real logjam in the upper-middle and the middle - dropping United/Karori from 5/6 last year to 8/9 feels a bit harsh but seems Cantabs and Phoenix have made improvements and there isn't a weak Auckland team this year.

Anyone in that top 6 can make the final imo - and anyone except Central could finish in the top half as well so I could be completely wrong!

Yes it is going to be very difficult to call. I am going to wait until the rest of the squads are released before I make my predictions

Southern, Canterbury, Phoenix have released squads - the rest other than Central shouldn't be too different from club season

Pretty disappointing coverage so far - no commentator for Pride-Phoenix (and some interruptions) and Central-WCR seems to be frozen (but clock keeps ticking)?

Anyway as for the football, Pride-Phoenix a cracking game so far and quite even, 1-1 nearing HT. Pride perhaps the slightly stronger side so far and having just equalised should fancy themselves to go on and win.

The bottom three taking points off the top three should make for a tight league (apart from Central)

The only time I'd seen them play was against DCR on FIFA+ to be fair 😂 much harder to keep up with the regional leagues than it is for mens

Puts her in the shop window for the Nix and other ALW teams I guess.
Otherwise she may get picked by the new Auckland ALW side in 12 months.

But a bit of a fall from grace being part of the Ferns WWC squad.

There is a Womens World Club Cup planned for early 2026, that Auckland United are probably the OFC front runner for. But that's over a year away.

Decided to pull out a mixer for the nix vs karori game and take a sip every time the ball went out. Can's almost half empty already, should try with an actual beer next time lmao

also 2-0 Karori

Edit 1 minute later: 3-0 Karori
