So the only reason for this drama would be manipulation of the Phoenix?  If he can negotiate with anyone why would this need to be in the press when Wellington have already announced they are talking to him about a new deal.

I don't know. An opportunity to go now rather than in ~5months? The Phoenix putting pressure on Krishna to sign/signal to other clubs that Krishna is worth high 6 figures? Krishna putting pressure on the club to up their contract?

You could have just put. "yes" which is pretty much what you just said.

I don’t see how any of this is remotely relevant to the Krishna situation.

I think it's relevant because as fans we are mostly ok for clubs to exert their power over players to the club's benefit. When a player tries to do the same we vilify that player.

Judging by the large number of people having a go at the club when the Krishna "story" first broke, I don't think this is true at all.

OT post, but a lot of the problems discussed are because of the salary cap, squad limits, and lack of transfers. They put the clubs in a pretty tough position.

Yeah, 1 or 2 said nasty things bout Roy but by and large most people have said they want the best for him even though we don't want him to go.

Let's not lose sight of the fact too that we are really a feeder league to leagues better than ours. We might to and fro about which is better A League or MSL but in our hearts I think we know a move to the MSL is a step up from playing for the Nix in the A League.

Sorry bro, I was just copying and pasting Tegal's sentence because I was off topic

I agree that it is a 2-way thing. Ideally no party would ever treat the other party like shark, but when self interest comes into play either party can act like dirt

I guess it becomes a question of how low each party will go to get what they want

Yes and I think an honest and above board process where Colorado offer the Phoenix a token amount for the player would have had everyone say 'good luck to you Roy, see you when Hudson goes tits up'

Instead it appears that Colorado made no offer and instead people are trying to undermine an existing contract.

I don't know what buy out clause or price exists but I do suspect that the Phoenix would not be unreasonable as they would want the best for Roy as well based on my knowledge of the people involved.

What I would also have expected was the same civility on the opposite side and everything I have seen, heard and read leads me to believe that has not been the case.

So in conclusion if the club are aware of threads like this one, would it not be an opportune moment to make some sort of public release statement claryfing the truth?? It might shut up the gossip, inuendo, speculation etc and perhaps calm a few things down?

I'm all for better communication from the club, as it has been lacking, but player/contract speculation is one error where the club really can't/shouldn't make comment for a number of reasons.  Primarily, if they deny one thing, they are forced to deny everything, less it be confirmed by their silence, and there will be times they can't comment.  Player negotiations really shouldn't be done in public.

It's a financial arrangement.  It would be entirely inappropriate for them to comment on it more than they have which is 'We are trying to get Roy to sign on for longer'.

A shame this doesn't appear to apply to both parties.

True if there is any negotiations over a contract taking place. But if nothing is happening a comment would be nice.

The 'Nix, TBF, have shown to be, generally, good employers - have accommodated the wishes of many players, Tratt, Barbarouses etc. I can't think off the top of my head the club forcing players to train on their own at odd times to force them to leave, or, like how Perth treated Jamie Coyne.

it would be really odd if either the nix or krishna were being dicks about this. NIt seems out of character for both, perhaps its more the agent being a dick?

or there actually is an extension trigger in his contract that he’s trying to avoid.

He doesn't need to fake an injury to talk to other clubs. The only reason he only would do that would be to avoid an extension trigger. The more info we get the more and more it seems to be exactly the case.

If this is true I can't imagine a bigger way to disrespect the club than refusing to honour your contract - especially when the club have already stated they offered him a new contract (one would have assumed on improved terms than the trigger has).

I bet he would have laughed all the way to the bank if a trigger had fallen in his favour and he was out of form or something.

especially bad with the timing.  The club invested in new players and the team had regained confidence. Damaged the end of the season for tge fans. Very disappointing if true

TBF the Phoenix management have done that themselves before this stuff came up

Yes, all true.  But if the club relied on the contract extension being triggered by appearances this year rather than offering him a new deal last year then that's extremely negligent.

We don't know the timing of the contract offer. Both parties have talked of ongoing discussions for some time.

just like we don't know what the contract offer made to Roy was, think we need to know more about this whole story before we go judging him (despite the fact many already have)

I think there is a big gap between choosing to move to the MLS because we didn't make a good enough offer (which I wouldn't begrudge him at all) and refusing to play.

If he wants to move and doesn't like the offer there are many other ways to go about this.

If he has been passed medically fit to play by two independent doctors, but refuses to play - surely this is a breach of contract?

And if he does go on to sign a contract with another team, having not engaged his extension clause (assuming he has one) surely their is a case there for damages due to the potential loss of earnings the club might face (less likely to sell tickets / marketing) to being able to seek recouperations of costs due to the club having to find another player?

Honestly, if Roy is fudgeing around then good riddance. No player is bigger than the club. He's been average this season as well, clearly his head or heart is not in it.
