really disappointing. And I don't see why fleming had to take a moral stand and drop deeley and kelly. I had a feeling that kelly was due for a big game.

And if it wasn't for that Twit Micheal fifi, who scored two last minute winners we'd still be three points clear of wellington.

The maths is simple from here in, in terms of our game vs Manawatu and Canterburys game vs Wellington:
If we lose we're gone,
If we draw scoring five goals or less, canty have to win by a clear four goals.
If we draw scoring six goals or more, canty have to win by three keeping welly: scoreless if we score six, to one goal if we score seven, to two goals if we score eight etc.
If we win, Canty either have to draw or win against welly.

That is assuming canty beat hbu in a catch up game next week.
If canty were to lose that, then lose to welly, assuming we beat manwatu, would see them in 5th need to beat auckland in a catch up game on the last day of the season to make the playoffs and knock us out

As an aside losing could see us drop to 7th if both Manwatu (playing us and auckland) and Hawkes Bay (playing canty and auckland) both win their last two games.

Not all lost for Otago, can see Canterbury beating Wellington & Otago taking all the points against Manawatu, providing players don't break team protocol.

Fair enough Malcy dropping the players, like he said "Maybe I could understand if we were bottom of the league and nothing to play for. But last week we had the chance to secure our place in the semifinals." i probably would've included them but taken away any bonuses they may have got

Canterbury 1 Hawkes Bay 2

from our pt of veiw it means that if we beat youngheart manawatu whatever happens between canterbury and wellington next week will keep us in the playoff race.
Ie (assuming we beat yhm) : canty win or match drawn we'd be in ahead of welly, if welly win, canty would have to beat auckland (in two weeks) to knock us out and go through with welly. If they lost to welly and auckland (after us beating manwatu) otago would go through with welly.

Of course this result keeps hbu in the mix them needing to beat auckalnd and hope otago and wellington both lose.

This is really quite close and I'd go as far as to say this this the most exciting, competitive, enthralling NZFC in its 6 year history. Counting the sleeps to Otago United vs Youngheart Manwatu next saturday.

haha this was a given a few years back but hasn't really happened for a while (been average from the start), heard there was heaps of players at their trials, not sure what the standard was like

Not sure about Roslyn otagofan, they do have a young squad but they'll play better footy this season, just not sure where their goals will come from

Northern will be the same

Will be interesting to see who signs with Green Island

I'm sure Phelo & Scoullar love your passion also

on that note i think i'll finish up on 142 posts, the same amount of  league games i managed for the U's

Good Luck to Otago Utd tomorrow, i'm sure they'll get the right result.

Oh one last thing.... can someone at the Otago United office please forward Charlie George's new password to him as he doesn't have access to gm@otagounited.co.nz anymore...

an ok performance by the Otago boys but really disappointing when we made it into the attacking third.

The maths is simple from here in: If Canterbury win by four goals we're in, if they don't we're gone.

saw some pre season action today in the northern mosgiel game won 5-1 by Northern with new signing Sean Brand scoring four of northerns five. He Looked really classy today, fittest hes been in for at least two or three years, some great attacking runs, got around the park well, played the ball well and finishing was superb. If this is what hes gonna be like all year it could be great season for the black and white. otagofan2010-03-20 13:27:45

As a local football supporter I am  yet again disapointed to here for the second season in row teams have pulled out of the pre season cup midway through the tournament. Footballsouth are surely looking at handing out some sought of fine for those teams who default. Clubs shouldn't be picking and choosing when they want to play. These clubs are treating the tournament like a social event. Personally I think the pre season tournament seems like a good idea, but I think it should be run with a little more professionalism.

Canterbury 5 Otago Youth 0. Disappointing end for the season. Went and watched. Left back and one of the centre backs (got subbed off) for Otago were having a shocker. Midfield was very average and strikers couldnt bring down a pie. Bring on Winter League.

Hi all, former Dunedin footballer here...long time lurker, first time poster.

Just noticing that retro ricki scholarship is up for nominations.
Would be good to see a Dunedin based player in the running, couldn't hurt, get's their name out there etc (we all know that Dunedin players need as much publicity that they can get).....

I've not lived down south for a few years now, so prospective nominations would probably have to come from those who still involved with football in Dunedin. Would be good if we (people who post in this thread) could agree on one player who'd be worth a nomination.

Thoughts?

Anyone else realistically worth a punt?
Can we confirm that they are both born after 1990? (christ that makes me feel old)
