But from what I've seen when they play at the caledoain they struggle to dominate because the younger fitter teams just run around them.

yea quite possibly ur correct but the beauty of the southern league is that most teams cant play football around the likes of tech the only teams who probably could are cavy mosgiel roslyn and now it seems varsity, so its not to bad.... and the beauty of tech is that they do seem to put away teams very convincingly

Yep Tech long ball all day, cavy are the only footballing team in the league, can't wait for round 13, Roslyn won't stand a chance against the train & we'll see Overton dominate cunningham

Yea who knows itd be nice to see the train running again considering it came to a resounding hault in invercargill the other day, but no doubt its been a big boost having fleming back hes a much better player then overton, i dont really get all the hype about him. Fleming also gives you quality delivery from set pieces etc, nice little option to have.... the games at tonga yea?? i wonder if they will mow the lawns?? quite interesting that a team who "likes to play football" play in the amazon jungle...

Not saying Overton is better than Fleming, Paddy is quality, both miles better than Cunningham though, why isn't Cunningham playing for Tech or Cavvy? as for nz stuff, how much game time did cunningham play in Canada at the world cup? what college did he go to again? second rate college thats why!

How did the out of town chatham cup gmes go?

I watched Roslyn vs. Northern - very one sided game and another Cunningham masterclass

Who would you say are the form X1 in the SPL right now? Playing 3-5-2 of course....

heres mine, only 3 teams feature though

P Evans (Ros)
M Smith (cav), T Mather (ros), T Connor (ros)
E Jones (cav), M Cunningham (ros), S Mepham (ros), A Cunningham (ros), T Prattley (tech)
A Burgess (tech), J Flaws (tech)

I hear the rift is because Mather is being forced to play centre back instead of his preferred CM position. Surprised to see Roslyn won after I saw the first half to be honest. Looking forward to the next round. The other three teams will be hoping the don't run into cavy

Rumour mill spinning....I heard from a mate whos friends with Jimmy Vaughan that he may be coming back down next year. He had 1 inconsistent season with Roslyn but he's a young coach who I'm sure would have matured up north. Could be interesting to see what he could bring back to dunnaz footy. Altho I dont see him pushing out Colin Thom as top dog at Roslyn. Perhaps Cavy coach if Rich Murray cant snatch the title, watch this space....

Allow Good Solonius (the 'g' in good is a capital becuz it is my first name) 2 empart his wisdom on this group.
Word on the street is that young canterbury united winger Tane Gent is set to come to Dunedin next year to study and will sign with Roslyn as he is friends with a number of their younger players like the cunningham brother, sam mepham and fraser cameron. His talent would b a great boost 4 roslyn and the league in general.
And Meow Meow i almost choked on my honey wine reading ur comments on cunningham. I think they belong in ur litter box and not on this forum. R u really having a go at him for not playing tht much at a world cup? yeah i guess he did only get 2 represent his country on 1 of the biggest stages in the world and he got a yellow card axing javier hernandez who just played in a champions league final. ur prob sum 2 bit sack of crap who plays for grans braes seconds (no disrespect to the braes)

"

A master of technique, Cunningham exposed lack of concentration by the Northern defence, and with minimum backlift chipped a top-spinning shot past keeper Nick Grant to clinch the cup result after 75 minutes.

quoted from the ODT this goal sounds impressive i wish i could of been there to see it....

Mike Cunningham is a very good midfielder, the stand out in Roslyn by a country mile, it would take a muppet to think otherwise. He put on a clinic against a sluggish Tech side a few weeks ago. Overton and fleming are a good combo in the mid for Cavvy would be a very nice watch against Roslyn in the middle of the park.

2 1 result for Tech against Northern Hearts??? Also wanting to know why centre back joy isnt getting game time. Saw the 2nd half of Tech vs Varisty and it looked like the team lifted when he came on when they were 1 nil down. Rumour has it Roslyn are wanting him. Justin Flaws also made an impact off the bench.

Cavvy off to a slow start but should win the league, tech, roslyn and mosgiel starting to slow down.....surely not another for the tonga boys?!

Sean Brand best player ever for Roslyn!!!

as a new contributor to this fine site i'm intrigued as to how much attention roslyn receive from the armchair critics. last time i checked they were languishing in 4th place. i bet there are some nerves over at ellis park knowing they will be up against varsity again in the 4th round of the cup

Could be right mean machine. but id say given the alternatives tech, cavy or sum chch teams uni at home is a pretty favourable draw for roslyn. and roslyn did redeem their loss 2 northern in the cup and it will be interesting 2 c if they can reverse the result against uni the only other team tht had beaten them this year in the cup again

Surely they just need to leave a few southern gold slabs in the uni changing rooms before the game, the students couldnt resist that sort of temptation; would ensure roslyn safe passge and make for a hugely entertaining game for the crowd

haha thats chat from u Poolfan. Id have my money on roslyn 4 tht 1.  I watched the last game wen they lost 2 uni and they wer a bit slow 2 the 2nd phase, dont see it happening again

Looks like Roslyn and Cavvy to go through to the next round? - Nervous one for Tech up in Chch, but if they can lift their form, and lift the mighty Matt Joy off the pine and onto the pitch, they are in with a real chance.

Who will come next for this giant killing Roslyn team? perhaps Central United? I cant see Vicelich getting close to Cunningham based on that ODT Article today....

Roslyn and Cavy will be flying the flag for the Dunedin teams after this round. Roslyn are lucky that two of the best players in the Uni team wont be playing. The tall CM has his flight booked back to the US for the Thursday before and the brizilain upfronts visa has ran out and leaves this week. I can't see Tech getting a result away with there style of play.

Also I have heard on the Mather situation that he leaves after exams. He has told the coach that he doesnt want to play CB anymore and won't play again for the club. Sad turn of events for the club which need all the help they can.

This is what ud most likely want from a neutrals perspective if you have dunedin succeding as the main goal ideally ud want tech to win also therefore 3 teams in the last 16 which is quite an accomplishment... as if varsity manage an upset all there players will be away aand at home for the next round therefore just handing a team passage... that has to be good news if for roslyn if those two players are out especially the american as from what ive heard he has been a menace for defences all season, and the brazilian aledgedly (mind the spelling) tore some asshole against tech also i heard, what a tax a visa is ae.
That will be a big loss for roslyn when mather leaves as they seem to be quite shallow in that position especially with the number of injurys they seem to have incurred over the last month...

Cavvy will beat Western, will be good to see Blair Duncan back in action down south.

can't believe James "Gorgeous" Watson never gets a mention on here, ok he should be the captain of Grants Braes but Gorgeous is a pretty decent footballer ae

Rumour mill spinning... Young Otago united defender liam lockhart not too happy at Tech.  Bit 2 big of age difference wit too many of the players and isnt digging the team dynamic 2 much. Word on the street is he might head 2 roslyn next year which has a number of his former otago age group players in the squad and was his intended destination this year until jimmy vaughan moved up north. Watch this space.....

Good Solonius has also come across that rumour Cowbell.
Would go some length to explain why hes been below his best this season.
Hes a young lad that's a great prospect for Otago football in my opinion but you need 2 b enjoying your football and if the lad isn't a change would probabley be 4 the best.
I wonder what teams would be willing to sign him for? 50 Dinari? That is too much coin Batiatus!

A not bad looking squad Cowbell however Good Solonius will play a more structurally sound 4-5-1

                                              Evans
                     Connor     Myers    Mather   Prattley
                                         M.Cunningham
                     S.Ryder   Overton   Mepham  J.O'Callaghan
                                           Burgess

The unlucky ones: A.Cunningham, P.Fleming, J.Govan. T.Whittensaga, Oenomaus

The Wild things injured? thats a curve ball. Potential to slot the good mosgiel LB jordan in there. or drop prattley back to where he should be playing and slot the likes or h.rodeka in the midfield
