None of the chat about paying players/coaches directed at any club in particular but at the league as a whole. Horner not being paid is the way it should be, putting the club first.

Just goes to show after winning title after title , you need to pay the players , Tech etc have tried to win without paying and have only managed this once in the last while ,

I rest my case

I'm more baffled that players and coaches think they should/need to be paid to train a couple of nights a week and play on a Saturday. There is no benefit to the club as a whole by doing so, in fact it only harms the club.

HH was having a laugh - no-one gets paid.

Man there's some precious people on here , Never said I got paid as a coach , only coaches / players from previous regimes , I bet the societies website might tell a story or two , from memory I still remember receiving payments back when I was a player under flems , no one ever asked what the deal was just got on with winning titles.

Ah well it's all a bit of fun really isn't it! Good to see passion. As suggested many times above, it's time next year that another club has a proper, well thought out crack at it! Tech and Mosgiel close this year but not as clinical and well organised/experienced. Tim has done well, is a young coach has a tendency to belittle others though. Not too many players in Dunedin.

Tech v Mosgiel this weekend, one of the few 'big' games our league has to offer, any predictions?

fallacy to say players haven't been getting paid. They were back in 2004- 2006 at Roslyn. Only a very select few mind

tech and cavy would definitely have been paying players over that same

Time period

Capt. Frenchy how can you suggest Tech and Mos this season were "close"? What table are you looking at?! My prediction is DT will have enough. Although it appears they're fighting for 2nd place there's still plenty to play for in that respect.

From what i got told tonight Tech players got some pocket money in 2005, nothing great but it was different environment back then, more coin floating around / pokies was more accessible & there was prize money in the league...

Mosgiel were apparently the big spenders that year

It was a very select few which proved to be the downfall in the end

And that put the club in a pretty poor state for a few years.

Yea they have really struggled. Best Strip, best kit, best players, best coaches, trophies, good team spirit. Must be terrible for the players.

Think you've missed the point. The club is in a great state now, both on and off the pitch but it wasn't the case after the money dried up for a few years there.

think many people suggested an unnamed player "x" almost bankrupt the club

Permalink Permalink

however I'd have to disagree as player x was a quality player and a good guy off the pitch. Was good to me when he was there

Are people arguing about the same thing here? Think there might be some confusion as to which club people are referring too. Lee Germon, clearly Mosgiel. Gunner I'm not sure I'm picking up who you're talking about with respect to "best" or whether you are being facetious.

Big game today. Tech @ Mosgiel. I think the loser is probably technically no shot at catching Caversham (not that anyone is going to in reality anyway). I fancy Mosgiel's chance to be honest, should be a cracker of a game though.

Caversham @ Roslyn... expect Cavvy to win, 3-1 or something comfortable enough. Can't see Roslyn getting anything out of this game.

Uni @ Green Island - big game at the other end of the table. Uni have imploded a bit, I'd really fancy GI's chances here even though they're missing half their squad to youth cup...

Also, Northern with a friendly vs Meadowbank who are top of the South Canterbury league... wonder if it's their chance to see if they can be competitive against (one of the weaker) Dunedin sides to see if they could take a place in the league next year???

Big game today out at memorial 2-1 to tech does that sum up second? Think Mosgiel deserved the win but Tech held firm, Parked the bus and held them out. Not the better team but better tactically today

Your thoughts on Terry Boylan asking Mosgiel committee for 10K if they make top 3 next season (not a yarn)

7K + 3K if they make top . I'm not the idiot on the committee who thinks it's a good idea.

If i was going to come up with a yarn horse, it would be better than that one...

Not much to report, just typical post match whinging about officials, it's not their fault the buffoon played a goalie up front.

An average goal keep at that. Fletcher cup player at Cavvy, fletcher cup standard playing first team at Mosgiel.

That team should be able to coach themselves to at top 3?

harsh comments, he was actually a very good keeper a number of years ago. Also a guy that gives 110%.

Mosgiel all over them second half, Tech simply parked the bus once in the lead, but fair play to them. Home side weren't happy with a couple of calls, they had a goal disallowed and Tech's second goal was a bit dubious too. Pretty evenly matched sides at the end of the day, both a gap behind Cavvy in class, but streaks ahead of the rest.

Have to say Rahan and Eder weren't up to much, certainly didn't show out like they have against some of the weaker teams in the league. In saying that I reckon Rahan has otherwise been a standout this season. And while the keeper's "back to goal" style up front suits the players around him, he's probably not exactly the quality you want at the pointy end from a top-3 team.

Seems to be how unlucky Mosgiel are week on week with things going against them. Yeah right. Just not good enough.

I think it's DT that are not up to much this season.

A goal keeper that plays better golf than he does goal kicks. Hey we have played 17 and won 17 but need a keeper will sign him just so we win the memorial golf game next March.

MOM for Tech v Mosgiel couldn't get a start week in week out in the third tier of Mainland football before heading to Dunedin.

Maybe a case that he is better suited to the class of football played or not played down South. Well done Ash but you still need to score goals mate. Watch some more of those Arsenal videos.

Just a bit of banter so gives you something to get your fingers going.

How bouts you come up to me and say what you think over a beer at the best football club bar in the South.

I don't bite, not even on the field. My nickname maybe LS for Lot of Shark but it's not Luis.

Let me know when you can fit it in after you've played a good game of football on a Saturday.

Sure thing big fella! Who knows you might talk some more sense with some liquor down ya. We all have an opinion but I dunno about the best Football Club Bar - I've seen Roslyn humming and the eerie blue plainsmen den always seems well occupied.

Maybe the most dominant team in the history of the Southern league should life the trophy tomorrow unless they come across a spirited Northern team. Shaun Richards who is third in the golden boot race will be keen to steal a goal or two back from Lewis Jackson and Alistair Rickerby who are currently separated by only one goal at tjhe top. Averaging almost four goals a game and conceding just four times in the league means it looks unlikely Northern will spoil the celebrations this time around.
