Congratulations Caversham - you've done it again. Was it as close as the score suggests? Be interesting if they can go 100% for the season I don't think that's been done before, at least in the modern era.
Southern Football (incl Southern United) (Part 2)

Hah - does acting like a knob come naturally to you or do you practice? I care about interesting.
$517K of payroll costs between 12 people means they can barely be called paid positions.
Lets say CEO is on 90K (which I don't think is unreasonable) - that means the rest is on an average of 39K for the year. I am sure the FDOs are on much more than that so there is probably about 5-6 full time staff running the whole federation - its clearly tough.
Mainland has payroll costs of $820k between 13 staff..
You're not alone in your efforts Kennedy - I'm doing what I can too. But I have faith in the new FS CEO and the new SU coach. I feel it's better than it has been for a while. The 'before' was OK, but we need to step up. I really am hoping for a SI winter league. Cavy, Tech and Mosgiel are good enough for a 12 team SI comp; the latter only just - not because of their player quality but because there's something wrong over the saddle with their coaching philosophy and overall attitude. Roslyn are are great club and need to sort their shark out. At least that's what I think.
Fair enough Kennedy. Football South have been appalling of late - but the new CEO and Southern coach have enough nouse to sort things out. SI league should happen. But there are going to be a few difficulties to address. Who makes it out of the mainland league? Do all of them and have two rounds (one home and one away game per team and relegation for the bottom one or two sides? Costs will be tough as well as travel especially with the Nelson side(s). And what would happen to the other clubs down here? Mosgiel will be fine, overall attitude? Pfft. How refreshing would a SI revamp be!

Money well spent in Christchurch, They're 5-10 years a head of us up there. Id say that's well paid for a few of the mugs they've got working down here. Pay peanuts and you get monkeys. The can't even get a draw out earlier than a couple week before the league starts, the way the refs get assigned their games is a joke, player of the year trophy is a debacle, they couldn't even organize someone to go present Caversham the SPL trophy on the weekend. What chance does this new SU coach have when he's being looked after by a pack of donkeys? Player's are even less likely to want to play under the new regime than the last. The guys being thrown to the sharks..
That is a disgrace that Football South couldn't get crap sorted to get the trophy presented on the day.
No surprise football in the South is going backwards at an increasing rate.
Give the Mayor a call ask him to do the deed or any big wig local that wants to get a photo op. What was the new SU coach doing that day a good way for him to see some players and introduce himself to the paying clans.
Your CEO needs to let the fingers do the walking and do something for the sport that pays his wage. Next time your clubs go to a FS meeting ask the question of the wage earners.
It's a joke all the chat on here about you wanting a SI league why didn't you get this sorted out four or five years ago when Mainland Football kept pushing for it.
You or should I say your employees at Soccer South [as it was] couldn't get clubs on board to get around a table and talk about having an SIL. This is why we have less of a comp than the first year of South Island playoffs when two teams from each region played off.
If you are still up for a SIL then get the clubs together and push for it. If you guys don't want it fine, stick to your knitting.
There's no hope for Southern football and unless there is a revolutionary new character (like a new Football South CEO that gives a shark) there won't be for at least a decade and probably more. The management of the whole league and Football South is just embarrassing. No one gives a shark, they're just there to collect a paycheck.
2016 Team of the season?
Eder captain
Whats the big deal with guy, in two seasons down here, he hardly turned up against the techs & cavvys
Id just put out the Caversham 11, you cant go past a team that's scored 54 and conceded 4. No one deserves to miss out.

He's performed against tech a couple of times, cavy probably not as much, however he is a quality player just needed to put in a bit more effort I reckon, at times you could tell he thought he was too good for the league
So football south have done it again. How in the world can div 4/5 games be played under the roof at the stadium mid week. Yet prems and Fletcher cup have to play on sharkty grounds in worse conditions. I understand the need to grow the game etc but come on sort yourself out. People want to watch the so called top teams play good football but never get the chance to do so on these dire pitches!

Am I the only one wondering when someone will try name the best team from Dunedin, without naming an at best average to poor team that will still get slaughtered at national league?

How on earth can you leave out Ridden, who will surely clean up and get Prem player of the season? He's been the heartbeat of that Cavvy team.

Harsh to leave him out for sure, but it's a big shout to say he's the heartbeat of the team! jared grove holds that midfield together and allows hogan and ridden to get forward as much as they do, underrated player for sure and hogan has been absolute class also !
I hear he's been tapping up a lot of players. I wonder if he has spoken to TH,TM and others to make sure they didn't mind first.
why it is a summer league, not really any of the clubs' business to have an opinion
Just thought it would be common courtesy, personally i would want my players to be concentrating on their current season than the next. With the season gone i guess it doesn't matter so much.
I see Havelock is having a bit of a problem with something in the water at the moment but could Mosgiel be having the same problem? I see they have bottled it in the Fletcher Cup in the last two weeks, Just don't know how to win. Lucky Facebook has still got that delete function or there would be a bit of egg on the face of a few big names out there.

As the winter clubs will need to release the players to SU at the end of SPL then the coach does have some say.
If a player owes money for subs etc then a club could hold the transfer up. Would SU pay the club to get the player?
Doing things tha right way and not being the big wig goes a long way to getting the best result for all.
Canterbury and Tasman getting the season signings sorted. It would be about time the new coach at SU had at least some of the squad on paper.

Having 3 points taken off them for fielding a player who's been at the club since he was 4 didn't help either.
