Things can't be going well at Wexford Youths for these five players to walk out before season's end - and most of them are first team regulars too. They last played on September 24 before boarding the flight to Dunedin - with five league games remaining:
https://us.soccerway.com/teams/ireland-republic/wex...
Wexford have won only three of their last 21 games.
The parting seems to be amicable though according to this Wexford club article:
https://wexfordyouthsfc.ie/latest-news/271-wexford-...
"While Wexford Youths are disappointed to lose the lads, we would like to thank them for their contribution this season and in particular would like to thank Lasty, Molloy and Mulligan for the significant roles that they played in helping the club win the League of Ireland First Division title last season." (Gained promotion by winning the Irish second tier last season).
I just hope they realise that the NZ league is not as strong as the Irish Premier League.
Maybe they just fancy some sunshine?

Exciting squad in comparison to the previous few torturous campaigns. The Irish lads should inject a lot of life into the local lads. Obviously a few of those Cavy boys deserved inclusion but otherwise the squad sums up the average quality of most Otago sides.
If the imports are all first team quality and you surround them with the likes of Little, Ferguson, Fitzpatrick, Ridden and O'Farrell then there is no reason this side can't sneak into the top 6. Good luck to the team, look forward to watching!
A bit disappointing/worrying that this forum has gone so dead leading into what is surely Southern United's most anticipated season?
Always found it crazy that so many football mad people in the city but most aren't very interested in their main rep side. Too much historical club bias? People fed up with past performances? Whatever it is, it's so different to rugby... they manage to put club rivalry aside for the provincial etc teams.
New coach and these Irish players sound like they're genuinely decent, plugging a few holes in our local depth. Don't exactly think we'll run away with the league but surely can cause a few upsets. Hopefully we can win in Hamilton this week to help get a good crowd to the home game at FS Barr stadium the following sunday.
I see they've just posted a video with the new coach on the Facebook page

Surely this doesn't really surprise too many people. there is a massive disconnect between the Clubs and National League sides.
Most of the influential people at club level probably aren't worried much at all how the National League sides go as long as there perceived level of excellence is maintained.
Maybe not surprised, still bloody disappointing though! I'm genuinely excited about the season & thought a few others would be too!
Clubs should be proud to have their players on the national stage. Of course, a few SU wins could change that! ☺
