Malc would go through that team like a dose of salts. He`s old school if you don`t turn up to train and you aint fit you don`t play no matter what club u play for.Look what he did with GI last season half the team was under 17. Not afraid to give the young guns ago, good on ya Malc. All the best   GI for the season.

Is reg out next week too seeing as he got his 5th yellow?

Come on fellas give the coaches a break they have only local players and were not up to that level. Malcolm has been there and not done much better. But I have to agree that we must play players in their right position.

How about all getting in behind the team and support and make some noise to Spur them on

Rooster, the point of anonymous sites like this is so that people can express things as honestly as they like. We've never been malicious toward the coaches, only as honest as we can. The overarching goal should be team improval, regardless of who the coaches  and players are. You'll know this, but you should also know that coaches and players at this level should be able to handle criticism and see through malacious comments even if it is from an online forum.

Team for this Hawkes Bay

              Little

Tommy Joy Jude Ferg

             Horner

Ryder     Frog       WeePup

          Regan ShoeMan

Bench: Evans Ridden Mepham Day Goven

Rumours are that Regans out this week with 5 yellows so who else can go up front ?

Donnie could have a go, but some pace and pressure needs to replace Coldicott, McCormack, the new signing could get a callup for his debut.

@Rooster, as much as I disapprove of that team , it will be close to the outcome. :/ Ffs.

Now reggies out give Goven a chance!!! i have been waiting to see him play!!

I'd love to see Govan get a run as well, I'm surprised he hasn't played more.

Anyone know if Ant Hancock will be back? Is he injured or unavailable?

A massive loss, he would have made a huge difference this year.

Word is that goven's hurt his hammie. Poor bugger. Yeah hancock would have done well if he'd been avaliable in dunedin. donnie might get a shot. Lets hope his form is as good as his handshakes!

the games hancock played so far have been fruitless with him up front

All these comments about Govan and Hancock are good - but if Gov is injured and Hancock unavailable it's all perfectly understandable - and a big shame.  And I heard through the grapevine Matt Joy has availability issues for a few upcoming home games - that may explain why he wasn't picked on Sunday.  Certainly Matt is a candidate for Otago's POTY IMO.  In that regard let's discuss that.  As a wee starter I have tracked player performance using a standard fantasy football scoring system ( I can post it if you want). To keep it sensible only players who've played 450 minutes (ie half the time) so far get a rating.  I've scored players by points per minute otherwise it goes a bit back asswards - the leaders are:

Coldicott: 6.7

Burgess: 5.2

Stevens: 5.1

Da Costa: 4.0

Ryder: 4.0

The trend is interesting because defenders do pretty badly (especially defenders who get CARDS - are you listening you little Scotsman?), whereas a clean nose and a few goals/assists puts you in good stead. But to be honest, we've been horrible in defence. Regan is a bit of an aberration - appearances, plus goals, plus cards plus a grizzly face - he's lucky no points are docked for being ugly.  And well done Burgess - his quality shows in the stats - but he's very lucky kilometers travelled aren't a factor.

At this rate my POTY would be Regan, YPOTY Joel, and PPOTY Aaron or Victor.

Govan = crud, why else would the Otago coach not pick him

Permalink Permalink

No Roslyn players in the poty list? Cunningham will be lucky to get another game after sunday

Why don't we play Jude up front as he seems to move up nearer full time. Shame about Goven(he needs more game time not just 10 mins)

I believe that Joy should still be starting even if he can't make all games we should play our BEST starting 11

How about bring back Judda instead of the Yank up front

I hear goven got 2nd most goals for the winter league. In my book, that's worth a crack at more than, what, 10 minutes you say. Never the less, if he's injured nothing can be helped. I'd pick joel for player of the year for sure. he's very consistent and has an extremely good work rate and cares about it A LOT.

Some good point's there yellow beaver, how many goals did jude score last season? If Govy had been a red and white player his season would have turned out alot  different im sure.Taylor McCormack deserves a crack at the big time, plenty of pace and strength and can get back and defend if need be.Now is as good as time as any to give these guys ago.And don't forget about Donny, you have nothing to loose RM& CO  nothing at all!

Last I heard is that Big Benjuda is heading back to Wellywood, and who is this McCormick fella???

Permalink Permalink

Give McCormy a shot for sure! In my view, giving young players a taste of what the 'big time' is really like gives them a sense of direction by giving them an understanding of what standard they have to be at and hence the motivation in order to get there.

NatPevin has divided opinion on the fever for the last 18months or so and has baffled most local soccer pundits to whom he/she really is. After some investigating i've come up with a list of "suspects" & over the next week i'll be eliminating 3 or 4 each day till we get to NatPevin, so hopefully Nat doesn't reveal him/herself just yet. i'm sure he/she will have a right laugh with the list.

So without further ado, here is "the list" & no it's not the "other list"!

in no particular order...

1. Al Laidler

2. Marc Chidley

3. Mike Fridge

4. Damian Foster

5. Andy Coburn

6. BVG

7. Michael Cunningham

8. Judda Flaws

9. Steve Fleming

23. Sally Hicks (McGarry)

An afro? Haha that's magnificently hilarious - he's bloody bald and you say "if he had an afro"!  Mate if Mike ever had an afro he would have been the best player of all time - no worries there.
