Ha! I'm with you Scottie.  Too much gobbledegook on this forum nowadays.  It will all change next week when the REAL teams strut their stuff.

First time writer long time viewer, big Otago football fan. Unfortunately I missed Northern vs Green Island on the weekend but can someone please give me the starting line ups for both teams.

Interested to see how both teams took the field

Notice how that last post of mine didn't mention Green Island once.  See it is possible.  And notice this...NatPevin aka NOT mike is back with a vengeance.  I've been away a while - new job and all.  And no Otago no Joy (get it?).  But I'm back.  And we are kicking off the FSPL in a few days.  Guard you handbag Seamus, watch your belly Mikey McGarry, and get that peg-leg fixed pronto Aaron (aka IMO).  The Horse are coming for you!

It's OK Aaron relax.  It's OK to be the great one.  Someone has to be for goodness sake.  And thank goodness it's you not Timothy "I've got a tat on my willy" Horner.  And you are the greatest of the Dunedin great ones IMO IMO.  Just get fit son.  Roslyn are gonna belt you if you don't.

Never Aaron!  They have no soul up there and the footy up there is all "give and go".  And all they ever say is "Ref! he grabbed my balls!".  Poofters.  Give me frost, mud, no shin-pads and "knock it long lads" any day.  And whenever anyone grabbed your balls Aaron, you would always take it as compliment, and as a man.  No, it's the Southern life for me.

so Cam Higgans a player to watch? From seeing team sheets in the latest match programme Roslyn Wakari are by far stand outs for the title. Caversham and Dunedin Technical just don't have the depth this year. Green Island and Mosgiel will push the league leaders and the bottom half of the table could go anyway

1. Roslyn Wakari
2. Green Island
3. Caversham
4. Mosgiel
5. Dunedin Technical
6. University
7. Old Boys
8. Grants Braes
9. Northern
10. Queenstown

Never write off Cavy/Tech and how often has Roslyn bragged about winning the league and fail!!!!

From the Mainland Football newsletter - re Southern League:

With regard to higher level competition it would be great to provide a South Island League.  We have looked at this for the past three seasons.  We will make another plea to the Football South clubs to be part of this concept.  We are somewhat distanced from the North Island and therefore need energy and desire to make these things work.  A couple of prominent people in the room believed apathy was our biggest challenge.  The challenge to Mainland Football and the clubs is to believe in something enough to make it happen.

Interesting from Football South ?

ODT Premier League Proposal for 2014

A subcommittee of Footballsouth, consisting of Bill Chisholm, Malcolm Fleming and
Jeff Clamp, reported to the Board recently, after consulting with member Clubs on
the need for change or the status quo for the ODT Premier League for 2014. The
Board resolved the following:-

Number of Teams

-

There will be an 8 team competition for 2014 and beyond. It will consist of
three rounds with Home & Away fixtures balanced from one season to the
next.
There was general agreement that an 8 team league would strengthen the
competition but there needed to be a pathway for relegated teams to win their
way back to the Premier League

-

Relegation/Promotion Play Offs

-

There was much discussion around the makeup of the 8 teams and how that
would be arrived at and maintained
The simplest way to arrive at the 8 teams is performance based results ie
in the first year (2013) the bottom two teams are relegated. The bottom two
teams return to their District League First Division ie Fletcher Cup/Donald
Gray
Then, a play off is held every year thereafter between the bottom placed
Premier League team and the winner of a District League (Southland, Sth Cty,
Dunedin) first divisions play off series, should those teams wish to enter.
A proviso would be that you must win your district competition to be eligible to
play in the play offs

I agree Cavy and Tech definately shouldn't be written off, and I'm sure nobody involved in the SPL is.

Most of the stuff on here though is just BS and banter. Most of the Roslyn lads I've spoken to certainly aren't bragging about winning the league.

The last time I can remember anyone from Roslyn coming close to "bragging about winning the league" was Parky in 03-05 (but thats Parky way, he always backs his teams and aims high).

Mosgiel have less depth than tech, so i'd move tech up one, shift Northern or Braes to 10

I think Mainland pushing crap up hill in their effort to get FootballSouth to get organised and make a go of a SI League of any stature.

What clubs in Dunedin want to be part of say an eight team league with four teams from the top of each of MPL and ODTSPL?

Lats see how good GI and RW are then.

Think Roslyn,Tec & Cavy would be the only teams that could complete with the Mainland teams, but it all comes down to cost as it has put a lot of clubs in major financial debt eg GI, Mosgirl, Roslyn, Cavy & Northern who have all been in the travelling league. Think Tech is the only club in Dunners that has still got money in the bank from it.

As much as I would love to see it back again I think your pushing up hill

Any club that could finance a team could compete. I think a 5/3 spilt would be better perhaps even 6/2 if it was a league format. In that secnario the best players would gravitate towards the teams in the travelling (oftern there has been 1 dominate club in Dn that most of the best players go to).

Realistically though small steps should be taken first. Starting by extending the current end of season play-offs. Would home and away semis and finals for the top 2 of each league be too much to ask? Especially if the Federations subsidising travel, in particular air travel if required

I reckon a Geordie Mansford hat-trick in the 2nd half will win the game for the gay train! Braes dropped out of fletcher cup which makes there 1st team look like a pile of shit, 5-0 tech. Not worried about the other games but cavy will get up.

bit of hate for the new train but haters going to hate, hope Old Boys get up against the scum

Ellis park is the place to be this week, unless Roslyn can't get their goals up..
Lot of chat from the horse, some good players there. Mosgiel also have players to win a game, might be a goal fest, but I think defence will win here.
Mosgiel 1-0 Roslyn

Uni vs Qtown, who knows, both have new teams each year. I'm leaning towards Uni, just because Queenstown often don't travel well
Uni 3-1 Qtown

Braes will get absolutely pumped this weekend. They have very little experience, slower and less fit then any other team. Even with Burgie gone, I see a cricket score. Maybe Braes can pull a rabbit out of the hat ALA Cavy last year.
Tech 8-0 Braes

I don't think old boys will be as bad as everybody thinks. Although they did get pumped by tech in chatham cup, they did beat GI! Will have some new imports in as always, though cavy should still be too strong.
Cavy 4-1 OB

Good to see Chris Marsh back playing in the Deep South, player with all his experience will on benefit Old Boys. Will even go down to Ponga Park to watch him play
