It would be a bit embarassing if the Phoenix kids get out played by the Waikato kids...

Come to think of it that's a great point, I'm sure Declan is keen to make a statement, as would all the Waikato youngsters, might be a bit extra in it than say as game against Otago or Manawatu

Haven't they eschewed the youngster tag abi this year with more seniors players in from Auckland and Waikato old boys coming back?

How's my driving? - Whine here

Yeah it's a little bit less Waikato-based, but there's still a ton of youth, average age is about 20, I think there's only 1-2 players over 28. There is still definitely a huge youth Waikato contingent - Greene Edge Thomas x2, Awad, Lissette, Wallis, Margetts etc, plus the whole non-playing squad.

And virtually all from the coaches academy. Seems no youngsters from any other club are worthy. All getting good game time prior to there shift to the capital

Although two of those Waikato lads turned the Phoenix down as I understand it...

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Or did Declan turn it down for them?

He wouldn't be allowed. Being 'amateur' players they're not really under contract.

Allegedly

If you read a few of Declan's 'summons' you may reach a different conclusion. I believed that's why Adam Thomas is in Waikato and not Auckland.

Yeah I thought Thomas was dead set to get a nix gig

The other Thomas, Ryan, surely was approached, but apparently Declan has bigger plans for him, what they are I'm unsure, but he's definitely a huge talent who wouldn't be amiss in the Phoenix academy.

Yeah Ryan Thomas excellent player very impressed by him

That is interesting.  I'm quite interested by Declan - on the one hand he's an enormous blow hard who talks utter rubbish most of the time, on the other hand he's doing something on his own that seems to be having some sort of results.  It's quite enjoyable having the odd maverick in NZF

Declan would get respect if he did not make every conversation about

1: Him

2: How the shepherds don't protect the sheep from the big bad wolves

3: His players trained 24/7

4: He team won every stat measured against the opposition

5: His players don't have big heads and the white shirt means nothing

6: His team play like Barcelona

To be frank, he's a dickhead, and a player like Ryan Thomas would get further without him,

Permalink Permalink

Yes and no

Would another coach have picked him and given the game time to get the opportunity? Unlikely

Would he be somewhere else if not for Declan this year? Probably

1-1 watson pen.  sounds like mcgeorge has actually decided to do something in this game and won the pen

Fair reflection at half-time, both teams with plenty of chances, great game so far. Very questionable decision to send off Parkinson but the first yellow was definitely justified.

 TW up 2-1 now.

Sending-off really turned the match into Wellington's favour as you would expect. They probably would have won anyway but it was fairly even up until that point. Still worries about the defence for TW, Waikato didn't convert some big opportunities. TW looked rather good going forward though, Watson looking impressive at this level.

Possibly, but this time he may have a case. Obviously it's not a conspiracy though, but he can consider Waikato to be somewhat unlucky today.

Even 1st half.. Wellington could have had 10 second half,   Waikato just not really strong enough..., not really sure they know what there  roles are , well beaten

I've had a thought about promoting TW. Couldn't a Phoenix season ticket entitle the holder to free entry to TW games and in return the Welinix boys subsidize TW by say $20,000 plus a season. As TW is serving as a base for potential Phoenix players both will win from the arrangement. It might even encourage more Yellow Fever supporters to go to TW games.

If this in fact is already reality then excuse my ignorance.
