The ASBP needs a competitive Team Wellington so please don't let it just be Miramar (all due respect) and Phoenix Youth. TW, Canterbury and HBU are the only teams who can realistically give ACFC and WU a decent domestic challenge.

It was Miramar + Nix Kids last year and was pretty competitive (once they got that balance right...).

ACFC are "just" Central United so I don't really see the difference...

Oh wait yes I do, bucket loads of foreign "shamateurs".

Maybe TW needs a few foreign "shamateurs" to be competitive. Corrales could be a goer.

Certainly would. I hope TW can get a really competitive side together this coming season. Wellington should be a regional powerhouse like Canterbury. Don't think there's room for another ASBP side in the lower North Island, not with the Phoenix as well. It's clear that TW are struggling to get enough oxygen which is a shame.

If TW is struggling for funding couldn't the Nix moneyboys throw some dosh their way? A strong TW can only be good for interest in the code in Wellington.

Is club rivalry in Wellington so uncompromising that TW has now virtually become Miramar and other club sides won't support it?

The first part was "other club sides won't support it?" Then .........

As an outsider, but big fan of TW, I don't get the impression it is a closed shop. I'm sure the admin etc is conducted through Miramar but think Matt C is happy to scout and use players from any club if they are good enough.

I also hope that he gets to choose his own team this year rather than be dumped with Phoenix cast offs....clearly most of who were not up to it.

Here's hoping on team selection !

Big Pete has been playing in the NSW Premier League at centre back for the last couple of seasons. I reckon that more than qualifies him to be an ASB Premiership centre back don't you?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Non offence to the colonel but after seeing him play CB twice this week - I think he should return up top

He may be better suited to CB. I have no idea as I have never seen him play there. As a striker, his days are numbered in this league.

I didn't know he had been away playing....Did he turn up in Sydney and start playing centre back? I wouldn't have him play up front if I were coach, regardless of where he has been playing.

But Peter Halstead aside, if Matt can pick his own team, we should be challenging for the finals again.

He adds a different string to your 'attacking bow' if that's how you want to play. I remember watching him play for TW a couple seasons ago and he was handy to have in the box when chasing a goal late in the game.

If all the stories about players deserting Waitakere United are true then this coming season must surely be a good opportunity for TW to step up and make a serious bid for ASBP honours and O League qualification.

I'd certainly love to see more of Wellington's football fraternity actively support TW as the national league needs a strong team from the capital. Be great for the whole league if you guys can get back to big noisy crowds again.

Interesting Ali. Is that work related?

I think its a good move for him. He wont have to look over his shoulder at Tamati, he'll get to do some rounds with the Phoenix/Gould and if they need a call up, he is in their backyard and most likely will have trained with them so there will be a familiarity there.

Good luck to him.

Not sure why but makes a lot of sense for him really.

Does this mean Spoonley playing for TW allows him to be called up by the Phoenix if they need him?
