i might have an old YH programme from back in the day... I remember when they used to get the sh*t beaten out of them and Halstead and Del Monte were brilliant. Tomomatsu was a legend back then as well (still is!)

STEVEN OLD!

Tesar yeah forgot about him...when did we have Hayne?
Permalink Permalink

ill add englefield to my extras aswell

Haynes played in his 6th form year.. although that may have been for marist then went to hawkesbay united.. may be wrong

Oldy got to the Phoenix/Knights from YH....can't have been that bad..

...actually talking about the Knights....yeah he could have. Campbell Banks? Has anyone mentioned him?
Permalink Permalink

talking about the best players .. whilst playing for youngheart..

Banks was as crap as Osea is now.. Banks played better for the All Whites than YH.

Now you mention Osea, we'll have him playing every position and captain from centre midfield.

Yeah sorry I was thinking who we'd have on how they're playing now.

In that case stick Yuki in there cause he was magic back in 2005 ish
Permalink Permalink

can Yuki even make the team sheet these days??
Permalink Permalink
about 18 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
No, unfortunately not. Was our best player in the preseason game v HBU I saw, but has been kept out by Quansar. Was still quite classy back in the day
Permalink Permalink

God knows why Yuki  wouldn't get a game ahead of Quansar. Quansar's barely done one good thing in a Youngheart shirt so far. Yuki was stand out best player as Joe said against HBU in pre-season, lots of great runs down the wing, not afraid to take his man on. He's a small guy but he's pretty tricky too.

I'd still prefer Ricardson at right mid to Quansar or Yuki.

Everyone talked of Quansars 'pace' before the season. Ive seen none of it yet.

I would too Joe, but i'd expect Yuki to be second choice. Roydhouse plays left doesn't he? I keep forgetting.

Everyone talked about Quansar being a footballer before the season but I haven't seen anything to convince me about that one!

Shane Rufer wasn't mincing his words in the paper. Utting stormed out, threw his gloves on ground. Fair enough.

How are we fixing this???

Its about time to get rid of Osea. Rowe and Nieres up front. If Quansah had a bad game yesterday I would have been asking for him to be replaced by Richardson, but he wasn't too bad yesterday. No one played outstandingly badly, we were just taken apart by a very good, structured Welly team. We need a bloody hard week in training, and most importantly keep our composure and keep working at it (therefore not "fair enough" that Utting had a sulk, Willy).

4-4-2 next time. It would hurt me twice as hard if we got beaten by Hawkes Bay.

I remember after the pre season game against HB I posted that our defence was to slow and our attack keep chosing the wrong option and everyone poo-poo me. Well blow me down but on Sunday our defence was to slow and our attack chose the wrong options even the reviews said the same thing

Boy I needed that rant I feel so much better now. Utting might have been pissed off because he let in 8 goals.

With 13 games to go, theres stuff all chance of making the top 3. I reckon Rufer should give Andrew Bailey a bit of game time. Utting is carrying a few too many pies. Probably explains why he's wearing trackpants this year. He get get any shorts to fit his fat a*se.
The only way Bailey is going to improve is to gain some experience with game time. Might be a different story if we were challenging for a top 3 spot but he has nothing to lose now.
Besides, with Utting being 37 or 38, I doubt he'll be back next year so giving Bailey some games now might pay off for next year.
Look at Wellington though, they have Imray, Bannatyne and Jake Gleeson ( NZ U17 )

My bad. Thanks for the correction Hard News. Jake was in the grandstand with his family last Sunday. I know his dad and caught up with him for a chat. He's hoping Jake gets a scholarship to a US University.

I have always thought Utting was the best keeper in NZ, maybe Waitakere got it right in not signing him. Time catches up with everyone. All I can say is I will be watching Manawatu whenever they come up North so I can enjoy watching his performances. He is a character and our game needs characters too many players are non-entities.

True, but I can understand why Utting would've been pissed off. I agree with the call for 4-4-2. Solid, nothing fancy.

So who here will be at Sundays game against Hawkes Bay. A real must-win for Manawatu to try and at least salvage something from the season and aim for 4th spot.
