AT LAST!!!
The rumours were correct. Bob Sova coach for the next two years (assuming he gets results or one expects he will be out on his arse too). Assistants: Steve Green and Andy Sawyer (don't know him - can someone fill me in?)
Well I'm disappointed that Shane Rufer didn't get to continue but am prepared to give Bob the benefit of the doubt.
All the way to the playoffs - No pressure!

Now he needs to track down Alick MaeMae and Nelson Sale and tell them to get their asses back to Palmerston...anyword on Andrew Bailey re signing?? That guys got potential to be an all whites keeper...

wouldn't mind keeping Peni Finau. Made the odd mistake but if he had a fast defensive partner I think he'd do well. Pablo Yackson can go, never impressed me at all. Nieres, now he's some player, some of the stuff he did last season was amazing, if he can carry on his 2nd half of the season form he could go close to Totori's achievements.

From what I have read Bailey and Fin Milne will be at YH again this season. Also I am delighted that Robbo has signed again. He had a pretty frustrating time last season but I still think he has a lot to offer this side.
Give it up WillyB - You ain't gonna see MaeMae or Sale back at YH again. Not sure I want to see Finau either I got fed up with him diving in to give away penalties and get himself booked when he could have shown a bit more composure. Yackson - well I hear he has being playing well at CB for Marist but I'm not convinced. I wonder if Osea will be back??
Nieres was good but not as good a finisher as Totori. Saralegui?
Cowan, Watson (probably won't be), Robson - hope they're all back.

If they get offers from US Colleges (which is after all what the USOle tour is about) I imagine they may not make it back.

Wouldn't be suprised if Bailey gets one, or Chettleburgh, both very good players in my eyes. Hmmn...might need to start looking for a new keeper. Unless Utting can drop a fair bit of weight I don't particularly want him back as he never really impressed me.

Have good authority that Watsons ar withdrawing sponsorship and redistributing it around the clubs they have links with

I work with Andrew Bailey's dad and can confirm that at this stage, he'll still be at Manawatu this year.

a bit of a concern for youngheart fans that the re-signing of current players is being celebrated / trumpeted in the press, rather than the signing of those of the new, improved kind.

7 players now signed up Ian Robinson, Ian Sandbrook, Adam Cowan, Cory Chettleburgh, Scott Robson, Nathan Cooksley and Andrew Bailey. According to Bob Sova We're probably ahead of most other teams ."  Doooh!!!

That's a pretty reasonable start to the squad. But, as I said at the start of last season, the success of the team will depend on the quality of the overseas imports. Last year, Nieres aisde, they weren't up to standard. Let's hope this year they get some decent left or right wingers now they have lost Roydhouse and Richardson.

Just noticed that all home games this year will be at Memorial Park instead of FMG Stadium. Good call, I'd have to say.

Quoted from Monday's Manawatu Standard:

"It was only our first match, but it did show we might need three or four players," Sova said.

"If we can get three or four players in important positions then we could be up there (in the league), otherwise we might battle this season."
FFS!!!!!! We are less than 6 weeks out from the start of the comp and we "might need three or four players". Surely by now a team looking to make a serious impact this season would have their squad organised and be in training getting their tactics and combinations sorted?
Instead we are scratching around still trying to find players to fill important roles (players who surely if they are that good will have been snapped up by other franchises by now).

Sova acknowledged that finding another quality striker to partner Nieres was going to be crucial. And they'll be just hanging around waiting for the call to come from Manawatu before they decide where they play this season.

Honestly, this has all the hallmarks of last season's fiasco - a poor pre-season and players arriving at the last minute with the result that what looked like a fairly useful side on paper never settled and performed poorly for the majority of the season.
I'll be there to support you guys but more of last season's dross will make it that much harder.

PS Can't wait to be made to eat my words as we stampede up the table sweeping all before us!

At least you've heard that much all we've heard in our media (odt) is a draw with no tikmes no gorunds in font about size 7 at the bottom of the page no news on signings or anything. otagofan2008-10-01 10:52:36

That is pretty cr*p. Do Otago just expect fans to turn up to the first game without building any expectation for them?

I have to say the Manawatu Standard is excellent with its coverage of YoungHeart. There are frequent articles even during the winter months. The franchise itself could do far more to promote itself (eg up-to-date website) but I guess they are limited by lack of volunteers and funding.

According to a media release that I have just received Ian Robinson has hung up his boots and won't be playing for YoungHeart this season. He will be concentrating on a career in real estate instead.
He will be a big loss for us and one that will take a bit of filling this late in the piece. I guess we now need to sign four or five players eh Bob?

That is a bit of a blow but to be fair, I don't think we saw the best of Robbo last year. Maybe his (Young) heart just isn't in it anymore.

I think he would have still made the starting lineup and he would have provided valuable experience which is something I think the side will be short of this season. Irrelevant now anyway.

Thanks Robbo for a great contribution to Manawatu football and some memorable football moments.

devastating loss for youngheart really particularly right now when we're so ridiculously short on players. Sova's got alot to answer for...his organaisation has been shocking right now.

Sova coached my little brothers rep team many years ago. He wasn't the greatest manager either If memory serves.

Geez, I haven't seen Terry Nutter for over 25 years. He used to coach Dannevirke United when I was a kid. I think he still played the odd game back then too

I Played under Bob at Metro we got relegated it seems he goes from one impossible job to the next ,He has a good understanding and coaching is technically great but his people management was garbage just couldnt get the best out of the players, I hope that has improved for the sake of Manawatu and the NZFC

great guy, very approachable as a coach and definitely knows his stuff. quite impressed with the guy even tho didn't get to work with him much as a result of my broken leg in the first match of the season.

If the aim of the NZFC is to encourage people to watch and participate in football surely it would pay you to keep the fans informed of what is going on at your franchise. I have to say the Manawatu Standard is outstanding in their coverage of football but what about the club website which hasn't been updated since the end of last season. I want to buy a season ticket but as yet there is no info on this. All seems very disorganised.

I have a bad feeling about this season. Mind you, on the bright side, I had a good feeling about last season and look what happened to that........
