But he is a cheating c**t for not owning up.

Only the ref would have been in THE best position to see Payne handle the ball. The linesman on the bench side wouldn't have had a prayer looking through all the players that were in the penalty area & the arm that made contact with the ball was Paynes left arm putting that on the wrong side of the linesman view.

An interesting description of his goal on the A League website, they didnt have the balls to say he hand balled it in, but didnt give him any other credit either

"On the half hour mark it was the Sky Blues back on top in almost identical circumstances. Sung-Hwan Byun's curling free wasn't cleared by the Phoenix defence and Payne was there to guide it home for his and Sydney's second goal"

+1, except for the odd saint
Only a minimum two match suspension from a match review committee will stop this sort of stuff and have players owning up
But I reckon he played for it.  His arm moved forward to make contact. If he'd been pushing to get his head forward to try and make contact then his arm would have naturally gone back.
He's a filthy cheat.  And it made a significant diference to the play of the game.

Typical. They'll sting players, clubs, managers etc etc left right and centre but won't admit when their f**king refs are wrong.

People are acting as if it just missed his head and went in off his shoulder, but this was his the topside of his elbow.  Acknowledging the fact that I don't know everything I'm fairly certain it was intentional.

Don't give us this 'karma will nail him' tosh - either he gets punished by the FFA or he'll never learn.  I'm picking the latter.

'll say it again but isn't interesting the different view points on whether or nor Paynes handball was intentional or not.

The FFA don't have the balls to punish me or any other players. The FFA are useless.

It was intentional, he didn't own up, and he's a c**t.

What else is there to it?

No it wasn't intentional.  But given the position of his arm relative to his body makes it a handball. 2ndBest2010-03-14 01:34:29

Here is what Ricki thinks, reported in the Melbourne Age

""Herbert couldn't his anger at Payne's goal after the match, hitting out at officials, Sydney FC and even the player.

"It's dreadful, come on," Herbert said.

"Who's going to apologise for that? At the end of the day it's just not acceptable at this level of football, irrespective of what the result might have been at the end of the day.

"It's poor and I think for a player to do that is unacceptable as well.

"You've got some comparisons around the world now, but that one's three times as bad.

"I don't know as a club you've got to consider what your ethics are like and if accepting of that then so be it."

Durante said he believed the incident changed the course of the match but did not want to put too much of a dampener on what had been a fine season for the Phoenix.

Sydney FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka said Payne admitted to a handball but said it was unintentional.

"I didn't see it but we spoke about it a couple of moments after the game in the changing room and he said he missed the ball with his head and played an unintentional hand ball," Lavicka said.""

Because the hand actually put the ball in the net and was not just an assist?

For those who think Sydney were better and Payne was the worst thing to happen
1.  Over the top foul on McKain should have been a red card.
2.  South Korean hand ball should have been a yellow card and a free kick into the box.
3.  Third goal was set up by a guy who received the ball in an offside position.
4.  Fourth goal Brosque(?) was offside when he received the ball.
Now how would the game have gone.

Nah, if the lino was doing what he was supposed to (ie. staying in line with the last defender), then he wouldve had the best view as Payne was the most forward player at the time of the incident. Replays confirm there were zero obstacles between Payne and the sideline obstructing any view. Lino should be the one looked at here. 99% of all players wouldve taken the goal in that situation under the do or die circumstances of finals football.

Agree, as I said earlier, he's either incompetent, to gutless to make the call or a cheat. I'm backing gutless.
