Gotta go with the matilda chants!
Would love to see that covered on the aussie news!!

The matilda one is good, though everyone here will know you pinched it off the Barmy Army...

By the way the 'Matilda' in the song refers to his swagman's bundle; so, in effect, you'd be confessing to shagging a tramps mattress...

From wikipedia...

waltzing  derived from the German term auf der Walz, which means to travel while working as a craftsman and learn new techniques from other masters before returning home after three years and one day, a custom which is still in use today among carpenters.   Matilda  a romantic term for a swagman's bundle. See below, "Waltzing Matilda."
I say again....a TRAMP'S MATTRESS!!!

Why are we even debating this ?  It is a low point in the Barmy's Army's work and not even remotely funny.

Seven seasons of anti-Australian chants have never made TV coverage in Aus, I somehow doubt they suddenly will because it's the Phoenix...

the waltz is not a dance???? arent the lyrics more like a man asking a girl named matilda to dance with him????

oh well we'll find some thing else to do

No, the lyrics are about a man dancing with a sheep and then some light S & M with it as it he shoves it in a bag...

...and they call us sheep shaggers.

How's my driving? - Whine here

Sorry to butt in guys, but as a Cardiff city fan I am used to being called a sheep shagger by opposing fans.
When Cardiff score we actually sing(to the tune  Go West  by the Village People)  for  example
" One nil to the sheep shaggers, one nil to the   sheep shaggers ........"
       Er I'll go now

Way off...Waltzing Matilda got nothing really to do with dancing..It's basiclly about a Tramp who steals a sheep to eat, the cops come for him and instead of giving up he commits suicide by drowning himself in the creek.Nestling2007-06-05 02:14:00

The problem with singing songs that have a national flavour, is that on TV you can't hear the lyrics anyway, so it just sounds like fans singing their national song i.e. it sounds like we're singing the national anthem of australia as it should be sung.

The main reason to bastardise the lyrics is to get in the face of opposition fans.  Seeing as not many fans (if any) will make the trip accross the ditch, none are going to be about to hear it. . . So is it really worth while singing these tunes?

What about: "Johnno fought the law and...he won. Johnno fought the law and...he won"

Not really too bothered seeing as only 1 of them will possibly start anyway

either way some people will will think we're idiots some wont. Personally i reckon we have to have some rude chants because evry club in the world does

example Pao, gamiste to pousti ton olympiako!!!
f**k those faggots at olympiakos!!!!

there are countless versions of this sorta thing.

We're Phoenix
Phoenix rising from the flames
We're Phoenix
I will go to all their games

(suggestions for the last line will be taken)

-Brown--Aloisi--Campos--Daniel

I dont see any room for Ferrante unless someone is injured/suspended, I see even less for Lia.

Defence will be:

-Christie--Dodd--Brazilian--Lochhead

I dont see any place for O'Dor unless hes playing RB, which I would support.

Go tried and trusted my friends,
"Oh Phoenix we do....
       Phoenix we love you"
Gooners like to claim it as theirs but has much earlier origons, as does any football chant.
