Yep, plagarism is at the the heart of most fan bases, certainly to start with.  Have a nosey at www.Bloc5.com Nembo.  Personally I'm not a big fan of stealing Barmy Army chants, but it has worked in the past.

She's a bit out of date, but there are a stack of chants that will easily slip in to Phoenix use.

(to I'd like to teach the world to sing)

I'd like to go to Adelaide
and burn the Hindmarsh down
I'd like to go to Perth Glory
and kick the shed around.

I'd like to go to Newcastle
and teach them to make noise
and when they ask us who we are,
we'll say the Phoenix Boys...
Followed by (chant and return)
Phoenix Boys
We're the army
Phoenix Boys
We're the army...

Yeah we need to convert the Knights songs into Phoenix. Suprisingly difficult for some of them I have to admitt. Kingzfan, were you at the NZK often, in the bloc? And the NZFC FInal?

Twist and Shout has to be done, even if its jst by some Bloc 5 lads until the others catch on

Ahhh good old Boutsi!

That brings back memories of a chant we used to do in the shed :D

We're gunna rob a bank
We're gunna rob a bank
And Boutsi's gunna drive us
And Boutsi's gunna drive us
And Boutis's Gunna driiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive ussssss
We're gunna rob a bank :D

I think we might have to revoke Pavlos posting rights on this topic....

some of these chants are atrocious.... well below the standard we should be setting for ourselves.
this is football, not gridiron or rugby....
hence p_styles directive for more singing.... and a bit more thought rather than crass, lame chants.

More strongly put than I did, but the sentiments are the same.

He's quoting the original lyrics from a bit of music that sold in huge numbers to the general public in New Zealand (I think it went No. 1 for a number of weeks).

It's a naf idea for a chant, but if the general populace don't consider it racist or offensive, then I can't see how I could justify making a stand here...

If Pavlos crosses a line he will be warned, have the posts deleted and if need be he'll be whupped with the ban stick..

Thanks for that.

Gotta ask tho...what does the song have to do with football?

Jesus i think we all have to calm down, its a song. If we were to condem every song that had the word nigga or white trash then R&b and Rap would never exsist.

Just a bad idea, no need to get so defensive guys.

Fair play, but if you use a chant that has the word nigger in it, the A-League will tear you a new arsehole.

Exactly, this is afterall, a dicsussion on what songs we can sing at the games, not at home. FIFA are very very strong on eliminating all potential sources of racism. Singing songs with words that are obviously inflammatory (globally) is not a good idea.

O yeah dont get me wrong, its just that people are making a deal big over somthing that be resolved over a few words, Pavlos dont be racist, end of story.

Now back on topic, i know this isnt anything new but yea sounds good in this version,

Oh Costa's f**kin' magic,
He wears a magic hat,
And when he saw The Cake Tin,
He said I fancy that,
He didn't sign for Melbourne,
Or Sydney 'coz they're sh*te,
He signed for the Pheonix,
'Coz they're f**king dynamite.

Nice one Unc. Good thing about his one is when can substitue the name for other players (in case Baba starts the season on the bench).

Cortes, Aloisi, etc. .. .

How 'bout a few chants for things that happen on the field:

When the opposition do something dodgy (e.g. take a dive)
(to the tune of the Big Ben chime)
Same old Melbourne, Always cheating
Same old Melbourne, Always Cheating

or when the opposition coach gets up and starts yelling

Sit down <nickname>, Sit down <nickname>

or if we go a goal down

We're gonna win 2-1, we're gonna win 2-1, win 2-1, we're gonna win 2-1
(best I heard was at Portman Rd with L'pool up 5-0 and Ipswich fans chanting "we're gonna win 6-5")

any similar looking players in other a-league teams

I don't object to there being modern pop songs that use offensive words. Music is art and sometimes art can be offensive.

But when the same person makes two racist comments on a football site when we are trying to come up with a chant then I feel that something needs to be said. Which is what I did.

I think the person in question knows where most of us stand on this and nothing else needs to be said. End of story.

P.S. I really like that last chant unc. That could definitely work.

racism is a bad thing, i'm sure we all agree with that, but...

when the "show us your passport" chant starts at McEvedy (a college athletics event), the whole of Newtown Park goes off. when over 3000 people start chanting at once it sounds brilliant. its simple, catchy and everyone tends to join in.

instead of aiming it at "a really black guy" we could chant everytime an import from the other team comes close to the crowd. that way an individual race isn't being singled out.

i think you may have overreacted slightly but thanks for bringing it up.

there are far more inventive chants/songs that will sound great with 3000 people saying them... we don't need to stoop anywhere near race.

besides, 3000 people belting out something with even a small semblance of tune is better than a one line chant.
we should be aiming for songs & a bit of spirit... this is where the Brits (& even the yanks) are streets ahead of us in sporting fanaticism.

we're so BORING here.
imagine it... "WEEEEEELLLLLIIIINNNNGGGGTTTTOOOONNNN" over & over.
lord, please let that never come up at a Phoenix game!

I saw we sing a version of " Oh Danny Boy " for our Danny boy..

Maybe something around the lines of

Oh Danny Boy, The Tin the Tin is Roaring.

From End to end and down Featherston way.

The summers gone and Football seasons coming....and so on...

Actually those first three lines are good..Someone finish it. I'm lazy.

Another reason why you need a capo to head your supporters group. Once everyone gets a few beers in 'em, every c**t thinks he's Jerry Seinfeld and shouts out all types of rubbish.

(this was in response to the post before yours, Nesting)

Incorrect, alcohol = stupidity/courage (combination i suppose) so will start chants that they wouldnt start sober, which is great!

but everyone starts them all at once, and it sounds sh*t. I know of what I speak, trust me.

Yeah i think everyone should be sober. Just an educated uess but i think our first game, as chanting goes, will be sh*te. As much as i want it to be good itll be a disaster. but we gotta start somwhere.

I just dont understand how all you melbourne 'fans' know everything there is to supporting, running, recruiting and managing a succesful football team yet youve only had experience of 2 years MAX, most of you below that.

ohhh right. Im a Welliingtonian and no doubt Melbourne know everything about supporting. There supporters are awesome just hear them when melbourne play. Not only r the chants from behind the goals but all around the stadium. They were class last year and the best team to watch by farrr! However i believe that they will come about 4th this year as they have lost mannnny players. Fred Claudinho Alessandro Sarkies Ferrante Lia and i believe a few more that i jst cant think of. Hopefully they do well. However Phoenix baby 3rd place i rekon.

How? Experienced leadership, that's how; which was the point I was making when you got your knickers in a twist...

Look, all I want is for the city of my birth to not let me down when it comes to supporting this new club. I know that's selfish of me, but there you are. The 2 years of the A- league have been a blast and you guys are going to love it!! it would be a shame if poorly organised support was a factor in the whole thing not working.

haha man dont worry we gonna have a great support base hopefully. However Wellingtonians r rugby lovers and hopefully we get good crowds for soccer. Melbourne has the greeks italians lebs etc that love football and that is why u guyes get such great crowds. But hopefully we can get some big crowds too.

Not let you down? Mate youre a joke. We arent bleeding stupid, we have had the Kingz and Bloc 5 EXCELLENTLY led. 2 years of history? Dont get too glorious. What a prat, your best song is '
f**k off united' how much leadership is there for that?!

Anyone with a couple of brain cells can see that you tard supporters have next to no idea at all, bt claim to have all the knowledge of the world, even so you believe you are better equipped to tell quite a few english footy ex-pats your know better. Get a grip, your giving your area/club a bad name
