we all clap our hands for most songs,yet can't seem to keep time  except the "milo" one, everyone in the stadium gets the timing right with that.

maybe, now some of you have moved over to aisle 21, we have a couple of people who look too each other from either side so we start the chants at the same time or at least get the timing right giddyup2008-08-20 16:13:08

Simple physics dictates that the best way to synchronize our chanting across the Zone (or the whole stadium!) will be to use visual cues rather than audible ones.

All we need to do is get a consistent "arms up" pattern for each chant. Best example of this is "Same old Aussies" or "Who are ya". Then all we have to do is look to the rest of the zone's arms if it feels like it's all getting out of sync. More likely to be successful than a bugle or a clap (although both will still add some great noise)

Like I say, simple physics, but I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet.

wouldn't simple physics say that you would be further and further out of time the more you moved away from the fever???... chanting at the same time would still meaning it sounds like the other group is 'out of time'

we may have too mate and show some of the newbies that have moved in the space vacated by those now in aisle 21 what's expected of them in the fever zone

my kids often try and start some of the chants...just not loud enough we are in 22 row p might have to teach them how to be louder

would be better if people went into the Zone so they could join in with making some noise - not just cos they want to be entertained by everyone else

Yeah, quite a few weird sitting in the zone who just absently smiled at us for a while rather than actually make some noise...

i think we need some more chants as well, seeing as the only good ones in terms of co ordination are clap clap clap and oh wellington and sometimes yellow army

the new spread out zone rather than up down is a bit off as well, although if there are enough like minded people they might be able to start up a few of the more esoteric chants... consider nametags...just kidding!

Yeah, you're totally right that the sound is going to get cocked up anyway by the distances, but my argument still holds for syncing the zone Might as well get something in sync somewhere along the process

Am I missing something? If you want synchronised chants you just 'join in' in time, if it is quiet you start one, if you don't like a chant 'don't join in', don't know the words? make a new one up and see if other people join in.

The fans are not there as a service for those who 'paid to get some atmosphere', it is something you do to support the team and for enjoyment / amusement. There are too many quiet spells to be wingeing on about two chants happening at the same time. I have been going to the games since the very first pre-season game last year, most of the chants have been organic and have been sung and then others have joined in, went we (about 5 of us in aisle 21 row AA) started signing 'signing in the rain' two games ago did we plan it military precision and print song sheets and request others to join in and ask permission, NO! we just started bloody singing it because it was p!ss!ng down and we were losing! It's called being a fan.

The D.I.N.G.O cards came from a moment of boredom at work when one of the guys emailed me with "Give me a D". I printed it off and thought I'd "give it" to him next time he started the chant at the game. Then I assumed he'd want all of the letters so I printed them. Then I thought but what if he does "DISCO" instead of "DINGO", so I hedged and did both. Have I just printed all the letters for DYSLEXIA? Perhaps. Was this post worth writing? Probably not? Do I care? Not really.
 
As Steff says, we should all keep trying new things/chants, some will work, some won't. Some will join in, some won't.

I'm slightly disappointed!

 not so much a song sheet as a letter sheet! Perhaps t-shirts next time, then we can just re-arrange the order we stand in. I was just having a bit of a letting off steam moment, I think the whole analysis of the chanting thing is over the top, just sing and make merry and try not to sing only when your winning (fat chance!) it's meant to be a laugh.
I though the tartan army's song in Iceland in the WC qualifier last week was good "You only sing when you whaling..."

Yep, we've definitely struggled to co-ordinate our chants this year cause we are more spread out. For better or worse a big bunch of us moved one aisle to the left in the off season and it hasn't really worked out that well. The angst is a bit of a joke, there will always be chants some people don't like but I'd recommend singing them anyway to support the team and your fellow fever members. I hate it how someone starts an "Oh Wellington" about a minute after the last one has ended but you've got to back the zone.

Steffs comments about just joining in are spot on, just get in behind the chants and dont' be precious about them. Some will work, some won't.
