Apparently I’ve been posting here for over 18 years. I originally came for the Phoenix, but I actually found a home with you lot as fellow Gooners. I didn’t have much of a football circle growing up, it was all rugby. But here something always felt welcoming. In that 18 years I’ve done a lot of living, including moving to Auckland and then London to really embrace this club (oh and career and stuff 🫣).

All of this to say, today is the day lads. In our time together we’ve seen Wenger turn project youth into a couple of FA Cups. We saw the tough end to his tenure, the transition of Emery, and the rise of Arteta. We watched Mertesacker turn the Academy into a production line of talent. And today, we watch our team lift the PL Trophy for the first time since the invincibles.

Whatever comes next for this team, it’s been a hell of a journey lads. Thanks for being part of it x

What awesome scenes at the end. I tuned in late but the only former Gunner I saw on the field was Keown and Walcott. Had hoped to see Wenger, Henry, Wright etc. Did anyone see if they made an appearance?

2-1 with the "second string lineup" - lift the trophy ad give the starters a well earned rest!
Hammers gone despite beating leeds, which mean Spurs stay up by the skin of their teeth.

Now we focus on the next target - PSG!!

Queenslander 3x a year.

Pretty much  ditto this one.
I pretty much never delve into other threads now, only use this website for  catching up with you fellow gooners
It's been a ride. In the time I've been posting here I've had kids and grown up tbh.
Some of you have been here from the beginning, some a little later but not by much.
Some I miss to be honest - foal30 etc.

Ian Wright was there but you're right, there weren't too many other ex players. I thought Ray Parlour or Charlie George might be there.

Was a bit of weird day. Went out to watch in the Flare sports bar in Sky City casino (am up in Auckland for a few days) as advertisd by the Auckland Gooners group. Sky City advertised the Arsenal game to be on the big screen on their website. Thought there would be a bigger group come but only 8 people (1 being a United fan) turned up. Sky Sport had all 10 games on different channels but turned out the casino taking in millions of dollars a day doesn’t pay for the full sports package in their sports bar and only had the channel showing the Spurs game. There were a few complaints made but nothing they could do so we ended up with the Spurs game on 2 big screens and the couple of us with Sky subs having our game on our phones.

Half the guys left at half time to just go and watch at home rather than sit there watching Spurs so me and 2 others stuck it out crowded around my phone watching our game in an other wise empty sports bar in the middle of the night listening to Spurs survive from the 2 big screens. Felt like there was nothing more New Zealand than that. 😂

Thankfully the big screen channel did go to the trophy presentation after. Still one of the best moments of my life seeing it lifted in the same season I got my photo with it a couple of months ago.  Feels like it means so much more having been through all the banter years and near misses.

Hi!

I am quite new here to this specific sub-forum.

My Arsenal journey is a strange one.. growing up in Argentina we dont get exposed to english football very much (the local league is followed strongly) but also Spain & Italy are followed due to language & the Diego Maradona factor (Napoli & Inter have huge following in Argentina)..

Anyway, growing up I played for the academy of the Argentine club Arsenal de Sarandi! The club was founded in 1950, and it was found because the brothers who establsihed the club were fond of the Arsenal in London, and both had military arsenals nearby their grounds..

As years has gone, I followed less of Arsenal as life took over and I moved to NZ & subsequently Australia... But this news makes me of them winning the title makes me happy! Today Arsenal in London is in top of the world, and Arsenal de Sarandi are in third division of Argentina (the club went bankrupt like many clubs in Argentina do as they are owned 100% by members of the clubs and no club has private ownership), worlds apart in stature, finances & fans, but same spirit & love..

Go both gunners :)

I think Wenger said he wanted to keep away so this team and manager could get the focus they deserve. Can't knock him for that really.

I have heard he will be in Budapest though.

Three for me, and two for them.

Agreed, can’t knock him for that but I’d personally have loved to see a guard of honour from the Invincibles. Still, seeing him in Budapest will be special.

What a morning. So proud of the team. I’m still thinking back to the 1 on 1 Raya save vs West Ham. This could be recency bias, but that felt like the most season defining moment.

Had to cringe at the commentators “Arsenal go boom” call when they lifted the trophy. Can see what he was aiming for but it didn’t quite land. No matter. We are champions. 3rd most crowned in England. Amazing.

PL manager of the season for Arteta. Surprised the PR campaign didn't give it to Carrick as well.

Sunderland manager must have came in second.

Quite an effort, getting promoted and making Europa league.

Auckland will rise once more

Wouldn't have been unhappy if Le Bris won it. Promoted to Europe is some achievement.

It does tend to go the league winning manager though and it's hardly undeserved. The clear best team all season long. Arteta deserves the accolades for what he has accomplished.

Three for me, and two for them.

UG, welcome back!

Water cooler thoughts for you. I’d always felt I’d prioritise the UCL over a PL title. However, having just won the PL and the relief I felt, I’ve not been anywhere as obsessed with this weekend like I’d be sweating the run in. The UCL would be amazing, but the PL has filled my cup and unleashed relief in a way I hadn’t realised was possible.

PL is the biggest hurdle and IMO a greater achievement than the CL.
The CL is the glamour event of the season, but the PL is the hard slog that requires the most consistency and effort.

It hard to explain my thinking, but this year I feel reaching the CL Final is our progress step regardless of result, but if we make it to the final 26/27 without winning it this year, I would feel more pressure.
23/24 we narrowly went out to Bayern in the quarter finals, 24/25 we narrowly went out to PSG in the semis, so this year being in the final feels like progress and the continuation of our upward trajectory.

It was always the league first for me so it feels better going into this now that we've won that. Tbh when things started to fall apart domestically I'd probably have been ok with resting everyone against Sporting and sacrificing this for the good of the league. But now we're in it it's just such a big opportunity for the club to achieve it's crowning glory.

The timing of securing the title couldn't have been better either as it allowed us all to bask in the joy for a little while instead of going straight into worrying about this had it been done on the last day.
It's an amazing season either way but will still be devastated if we lose given how statistically improbable it is to make multiple finals. The club basically never gets this far, we might never again. It's the one thing we're missing that all our domestic rivals have (bar "European Champions" Spurs).

I'm a little bit nervous and will be devastated if we lose not so much as Arsenal are my team and this is a huge occasion but also because our record in the comp this season has been beyond unbelievable. We won all 8 games in the group stage - the only club to do it this season. We're still unbeaten. PSG only finished 11th.
I think it's going to come down to defences and let's be honest, we haven't exactly been knocking in the goals in the last few games. Plus, if we're leading by a single goal post the 90-minute mark, I would be very nervous. Flashbacks to Sunderland, Villa, Wolves and West Ham even though that got overturned.
It would be an absolute dream to be European Champions and if we have to win ugly, I don't care.

Apparently all three big pubs showing it here in Auckland have sold out.

Quite impressive given it's an unpleasant kick off time. Guess it shows how massive we really are.

Three for me, and two for them.

Welp. Pens suck. Well done to PSG.

For us, plenty to take from making their attack look fairly toothless for the most part. Unfortunately, other than our defence, this was probably as bad as I've seen us play since maybe the Carobao cup final. For the first 70mins, we struggled to pass, and our touches and decision making were poor. It did improve after they score the pen but not enough to really put them under any real pressure.

And yes, I think the takedown on Noni was a pen. I know they are both holding, but the PSG defender grabs first.

Well used to the penalty pain as an England fan but difference is probably never having had any belief those times anyway. We didn't deserve to end this season devastated.

Is there any reason the most exciting attacking team of all time only scored a penalty and otherwise didn't manage a shot on target?
