1-0 over portsmouth.

once again a new team at halftime. always nice to get a win. bit of lol of a goal from tal ben haim. and a lovely penalty save from hilario. with essien out benny was again tried in the middle and looked good.

also 16 year old nathaniel chalobah got a run in center defence in the second half so big ups to him

Whatd you guys think of the Kitchee game? Interesting to see the style that AVB is trying to impose. Looked a bit rusty in the first half in particular, having to rely on a penalty and an own goal against a Hong Kong side... I think if I was a Chelsea fan I'd rather have Sturridge coming on for Drogba instead of Torres when the season starts proper.nzmanu2011-07-28 19:26:15

yea we looked rusty but to be honest i don't take much out of pre season games. last years pre season we looked horrible, (beat palace 1-0 then lost to ajax, frankfurt and hamburg then man utd in the community shield) but once the season started we looked fantastic winning 6-0, 6-0, 2-0, 3-1, 4-1, 4-0 so not to bothered.

I thought Benayoun looked really nice in the middle with Lampard behind him. Who needs Pastore when Benayoun is around? :)

Defense has looked solid enough so far, haven't conceded a goal which is good given we have been trialing different combination's at the back. Raijkovic and Chalobah impressive from all accounts.

Came through the Barca academy so he's probably a freak. I like Barca's possibility of inserting buy back clauses into player's contracts when they leave so that when Xavi and co. retire they can bring back these guys. 20 mil is quite steep though.

Zhirkov has now left......
yea i see that. i always kinda liked him and thought when full fit and in form he did have alot to offer.

but in good news we have signed lukaku. good prospect right there. trouble is now we have drogba, torres, anelka, sturridge, kalou and now lukaku as strikers. not to mention malouda and kakuta who can play in a front three.

i wouldnt want to be the one who has to decide who starts, at this stage though i think sturridge has made a very good claim to being a starting striker for us this year.

bring on stoke next weekend

pretty excited by lukaku, hes young and powerful and comparisons to drogba are obvious. really hope he settles in quick and AVB uses him in the right way. maybe drogba will take him under his wing, he could sure learn a lot from him.

really itching for the season to start. i hope we just go along nicely with most of the media spotlight being on the manchester teams and arsenal.

first game vs stoke this weekend is live on monday morning at 12:25 i do believe but may have do double check that

so trying to think to myself who will start vs stoke this weekend and remembered that sturridge will miss the first 3 matches after he got sent off for bolton on the last day of last season, disappointing but not the worst thing. he complained of feeling a bit off or ill after the rangers game and mentioned he hadn't really had a break this off season with having the under 21 euros so maybe missing the first 3 matched will do him some goo in the long run

Torres went off after 15 mins for Spain this morning, concussion apparently. Hopefully not too bad. may have our starting striker picked for us this weekend if hes cant play and sturridge being suspended.

Oh and Drogba scored his 50th international goal this morning in his 78th match

this weekend it will be ivanovic and possibly bosingwa on the right. all fit im thinking a back 5 of cech cole terry luiz and ivanovic. ivanovic can and does play rb but whether avb will want to use him there i do not know.he gave bosingwa and ferriera a run at rb during our trip to asia so he may want to stick with one of them, bosingwa looked pretty good from what i saw. theres also alex to throw into the mix

pumped for the game tonight, intrigued to see who will start. im guessing avb will go with a 433.

drogba or torres to spearhead the attack though?

surprissed Torres got the start. looked lively and created lots of chances but still maybe shoulda put one away or even tested the keeper...

bit worrying on defense   but hopefully as play more together will work better together as a team

what would people think of a 3-1-2-2-2?
with drogba and Torres up front, could work

that was a very rusty performance, especially up front. defense looked ok for the most part i thought, kalou and malouda were both pretty poor. the midfield 3 were ok, ramires looking the most lively. torres did look up for it and very spritely. lampards penalty claim was about as obvious a call as you will see but we shouldn't have to rely on a penalty vs stoke

its disappointing to drop points but a trip to the britania is never easy so not a dreadful result.

now a couple of other points;

what the hell is up with mikels shirt, looks like he has like 3 quarter length sleeves or something. wierd.

you know how the ref gets surrounded by players after a big decision i.e. red card or penalty, well this was happening for most of the calls he made, even seemingly minor ones. was really annoying.

shawcross needs to settle down on set pieces. be it attacking or defending ive never seen a player constantly manhandle other players the way he does.
