Dont look like it mate!
Shame about Duguid going to Plymouth.
Way the squad is shaping up suggests we will be using more of the youngsters this time round.
New stadium looking good...
There is another ColU fan around (Simon from St Pats College, Stream).

Yea I sent an email to my father's friend who is on the board, criminal letting Doogie go. Bloody Jamie Guy getting snapped for drink driving, complete muppet. Hopefully we can raid Tottenham again for a new signing or two this season haha.

ColU is a well run club with a good board, management etc so we dont have the dramas that afflict many clubs. Doesnt mean we like everything that happens of course!
New stadium has been awaited for decades so quite a big moment for us.
Like all new stadia may lack a bit of atmosphere compared to old ground but time will tell.
So sorry there are no scandals to rivet you.......

i thought WillyB was one of your lot
I reckon you lads had a good thread going with "Life's not fair" last season
I see we've just jacked up a pre-season friendly with Col U
should be a nice 'homecoming' for Brown and Garcia and Fagan
just checked Fagan - his details include the fact that he's a forward with career figures of ...
42 league goals AND 50 yellow cards

I see Kevin McLoud abandoned ship too!
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

The reality is that we are now a Div 1 side and our Championship players are tempted to want to stay at that level. Plus our wages are not high by most clubs standards at this level. Finally ColU has survived on selling on good young players or unearthed stars (LuaLua). This season we will be using more of our home grown youngsters than in the last two years.

Reid signed from Barnsley. Another tough defender who was captain when the Tykes were promoted a couple of seasons back. Defence beginning to look strong.
We need that strength for a winning promotion season. Tough this year with Leeds and Leicester to contend with. ColU will be favoured to be a play off contender, but we could contest top two places I feel.

As long as we keep Dean Gerken...
Am hoping the new stadium has the same fortress effect as Layer Road.

It may take a while for the stadium to do that. fans say they will try out different parts of the ground before settling on a regular patch. That will include the groups of dedicated fans that chant and sing - there is no obvious point yet for this to happen...it will emerge over time.

Some new signing this week. Striker from Cheltenham Town included. Nothing spectacular.
Not sure yet whether we will be able to do the immediate bounceback...hope so...

DKP, were you converted before or after Rus came to coach there? ;)

Bugger. We've lost Lisbie to Ipswich! This is a big blow as he was such a good goal scorer for us. I'm sick of us losing these strikers!

Hard News sits and smiles smugly
Lisbie gone, Guy loaned out to Oxford...
f**k it, bring back Iwelumo and Cureton, would take the piss!

at least one of them back would be bloody fantastic! Curetons gettin a bit old now, maybe a drop in division is what he needs, hmm?

Thats where the reality of dropping a division kicks in. Lisbie wants Championship football.
I still feel we can give this season a good run....Leeds, Doncaster and Leicester will be favourites I think with the Us among four or five others that could feature.
New stadium, new start....optimism !

We'll give you Iwelumo I saw him twice last season and he looked as sharp as a brick, but not as lethal as one. General consensus from the members was that he won't make the line-up with Andy Gray there now and we need to slim down our inflated wage bill too. He's likely to be put up for sale/loan according to www.doctorkish.com so tell the ColU board to chance their arm.
Good target man for the right game plan, only Charlton didn't have a game plan...
Hope this doesn't turn into a 'Life isn't fair' thread, but hope it is as successful as it! Come on you U's!

We still have Dean Gerken. I will always have hope as long as we keep Dean Gerken.

The build up to the season is going well with an unbeaten run in pre season friendlies. The big one against Athletic Bilboa to open the new ground is getting closer...cant wait! New strikers seem lively....
So the new stadium sees its first game....a 2-1 defeat to Athletic Bilbao.
Good to test the systems but lacking the atmosphere of the old tight ground...cheers and chants fade away more easily in the space of the new ground. But early days...many Us fans havent decided where they will congregate for matches yet.
Verdict on pre-season? Pretty good with new signing showing promise particularly Gillespie. Coyne seems strong if a bit feisty (I see yellow and red there).Wasiu likely to be an impact sub with Platt and Gillespie first choices up front. Yeates looks class (if we can keep him as he and Dean Gerken are clearly Championship standard),
Hopeful we can finish in play off slots and give Leeds and Leicester a run for their money!

Not too bad of a result to I assume a fairly slick Spanish team.

all the best for the season lads
i'd trade your pre-season results for ours

Opps!!
Col U go down 4-2 at Hartlepool. Not exactly the start we wanted. Just shows pre season form means little. Good aspect was that Gillespie started with two goals.

1-0 win at Gillingham in Carling Cup. Bit better news!

0-0 with Huddersfield. Not exactly promotion form but does show some solidity at the back now at least. Early days....... Crowd half filled new stadium......

Could be worse. I think we've got the heart to make a serious push. Obviously there are new players who have to gel in but everyone seems to have alot of passion playing for the club from how we played last year which will count for alot.

You lucky lucky lot!
You're going down The Den on September 2 for an away game against the mighty Millwall in that prestigious cup competition the "Johnson Paints Cup".
We will probably let you win, cos thats what we do, in cup games.

You've kept this allegiance quiet Dave. You don't include Colchester in your tagline:
Island Bay United AFC-Team Wellington-Wellington Phoenix FC-Yellow Fever
Why is that?
Because this is a site for Wellington Phoenix FC. I show my allegiance where appropriate (this thread). I wouldn't turn up to a Nix home game wearing my U's shirt, same concept.
Swindon this weekend, would think we'd get the points there. Good confidence boost before our cup tie with the Tractor Boys.

The fact that you lot are about to sign Shola Ameobi gives me some (comic) relief.

As opposed to your strike force of...um...ah...

Gillespie....he is good and will prove a good buy. I agree that the problem is that Platt, Vernon and Wasiu dont score enough.
Oh for the days of Cureton and Iwelumo.......
But times move on.
Swindon are actually not too bad so no automatic win there. Hoqwever if Us are serious about promotion we need to start winning and soon!

Good win at Swindon. Thats the kind of result we should be getting if we are to be a shout this year.
And Sunday scored! Good to see a trialist who then impressed in preseason and given a chance start to come through.
