Ipswich-2 U's-1. f**king Kevin Lisbie.
These people are moaning that we have "let our best players go" and that "we dont sign any big names".
These people forget who we are and how well we have done. The club has done well because the board and management do not bankrupt the club by trying to emulate Birmingham City or Wolves and remembering that financial certainty is paramount to ensuring good quality football is retained.
Of course it is sad so many class footballers have chosen to move for better wages but we cant blame them or the clubs that seek out their quality. I am glad we had Brown and Danns and Halford and Cureton and Iwelumo and Garcia and co. It was good to have Fagan on loan.
Col U have no right to be a Champtionship club but we got there and we can get there again but not by silly spending and turning on each other when things are a bit tough. The club has found the transition back into League 1 more testing than expected and are not the first club to have experienced this in recent years. Yes the performance at Crewe was disappoi9ntiung and uits OK as a fan to say so....but kia kaha....things will improve.
The fans do not realise it is not Geraint Williams decision to let these players go, the club needs to let these players go in order to stay financially viable. Not quite the same situation as West Ham United, but the club, including the fans, just need to be patient. Well said Orpewise.
U's
chairman Robbie Cowling has released the following statement on Monday
morning, following the weekend defeat against MK Dons.
It
is with considerable regret that I have to report that Geraint Williams
will be leaving his post as the first team manager of Colchester United.
Following
the 3-0 defeat against MK Dons, and the manner in which the team was
defeated, it was mutually agreed between the board of Colchester United
and Geraint that both parties would be best served if Geraint stood
down from his role and that a new manager was appointed.
In my
opinion, Geraint was badly let down on Saturday by some of his players
who failed to play for him, some of our supporters who failed to
support him and by myself for failing to publicly back him before it
was too late.
Geraint has been a very loyal servant of
Colchester United for ten years during which time he has played for,
coached and managed the team.
It is no coincidence that those
years have also been the club's most successful years and Geraint led
the club to its highest ever finish of tenth in the Championship.
That was despite working with a player budget which was significantly lower than any other team in that division.
In my time, I have been privileged to meet and work with some great people and Geraint is up there with the best of them.
In no way do I hold him responsible for last season's relegation.
The club could not give him the funds and facilities he required to maintain Championship football.
However,
he proved without a doubt, during the one season where he did have a
team capable of competing at that level, that he could manage very
successful at that level of football and, probably given the right
tools, even higher.
Despite being relegated back to League One,
the club has progressed in many other areas and - for the first time in
many years - we started a season where most of the talk was of
promotion and not, as in previous years, of relegation.
However,
although we have many reasons to be optimistic, we really must be
realistic and accept that a new squad playing in a new stadium will
take time to gel.
Despite our poor start, I have every confidence that Geraint has built a good squad which most certainly will gel.
Colchester United are an ambitious club and we are doing all we can to create a club that can sustain Championship football.
This is a real shame...I am very sorry it has come to this.
f**ks sake. Sorry to see you go Geraint, thank you for everything you have done for us.
Maybe this is the start of a better run.

I just hope we find a manager soon. Perhaps we could give someone coming into management a chance. Worked well with Ince and Keane.
Look around for a successful young manager with good quals who has current sucess at league 1, League 2 or Blue Square or an assistant with a Championship or lower Premier club.
this is quite a sad predicament, no club deserves it less.
Me mates tell me it's the same bloody story; plenty of chances but noone good enough up front to finish.
As I predicted a young manager with good qualifications (UEFA coaching) and a track record at lower league levels (Wycombe).
Looks good. Whether the style will change is a question to be answered. Lambert was a hardworking and stylish midfielder so thats promising.
Feel sorry for Kit Symonds and Joe Dunne who look as though they will lose their jobs as Lambert wants hius own assistants.
