Coliseum Sports - EPL Overlords

Guess your iPad is better at picking up wifi than your laptop. Mine is the other way round! Haha. Definitely agree with Surge that they should clearly state the 7 Mbps minimum. I think I remember seeing it somewhere on their website, but its buried in their FAQs somewhere, so I wouldn't call that clearly displayed. I think they do also offer tips on getting the most out of your wifi on the same page iirc?

And thanks paulm, appreciate it haha.

As for the whole product vs place debate: the product is live and on demand EPL games, same as sky when they had it. The place is their website and people's laptops, while for sky it was the satellite, sky decoders and people's TVs - the method of distribution of the product.

Different devices/systems will give different speeds over the same wi-fi connection as it depends on other factors like processor speed/load, multitasking, etc etc... hence my point around PLP making that clear and making it easy for people to check for themselves and advice on what to do to maximise it (ie: cable connection as per DR, try different devices/router/location, etc).

Now that I know this - I'll check it out for myself when I get home .

Thanks. What would the average in NZ be? Above 7?

Why do you care? You don't have PLP yet all you do is bag it - you have no experience of using it regularly at all so your comments carry zero weight. Unlike martyn's which are legit, he has a serious gripe and is telling us how he dealt with Coliseum, like you would expect of someone in that situation.

You just constantly pester Tegal as if he's the one who personally built and maintains it.

If you have a problem with Coliseum then take it to them, directly, or ask them questions, directly, like a normal person would. Tegal keeps saying over and over that he's not the best person to ask, and that he's not sure why people are having issues, yet you continue to ask and ask and ask. So then he offers an opinion at your constant insistence, and you bag that too. I feel his posts have been pretty clear as to where he stands and what he knows about it - which isn't a lot.

In fact I applaud Tegal for constantly keeping his cool and answering your trolling questions with a level head - obviously it's rarking me up more than it is him, and yet I've had issues with the service more than he has!

I feel sorry for you but I am not trolling. No, I did not part with my moneY or even had it brought for me. The reason is I did not trust it. I have attempted to use it through the free pass and it was diabolicle. The question I was askingtegal was a valid one about speed, as I have no idea and he does. So, are you going to purchase it next year? I sense a little frustration?

As expected you've missed the point.

ASK COLISEUM DIRECTLY. They built it, they run it, they answer questions.

Is that clear enough for you?

I'll certainly still be buying it, simply because it's the most reliable way I can get EPL, and I wouldn't give that up, ever. I've let my frustrations be known to PLP, and I am hoping for improvements, or the sale of the rights to someone else who will do a better job. Tegal feels a similar way - yet you continue to assume we're supporters of PLP despite having no basis for that, and you seem to get off on other people being frustrated by the service.

Decided to try it out for the first time for Arsenal game yesterday with the free 24 hour pass I got for their survey a few weeks back as it expires next weekend. Connected the laptop to the TV via HDMI. The picture was clear, better than I'd expected and wasn't too much different to SD Sky. Speedtest.net tells me my speed is generally around 10mbps and I had no trouble running it at the highest setting with no buffering or pauses at all. However, the whole game was very jittery and uncomfortable to watch and did not run smoothly at all. The best way I can think to describe it was that it felt like it was being filmed with a handheld video camera. It seemed much better on the laptop so it must not transport very well to the TV. So for that reason I won't be paying out for it in its present state as I want to watch it on my 42 inch full HD TV, not on my laptop.

Maybe streaming it wireless to the TV is better but I don't have any of the equipment to test that. Would have thought wired was best though.

So for now I'm happy to stick with watching the delayed Arsenal TV on Sky as I always recorded and rarely ever watched live anyway.

Someone said PLP read this thread and I must agree... after my wishlist of improvements the other week I've noticed they are now letting the game run until the credits roll, thus allowing me to see the end-of-game re-cap. Excellent stuff PLP, you listen and you respond, much respect for that.

However I do have a gripe from this week... but not a serious one...

When the arsenal game was still saying 'match to begin shortly' at the scheduled kickoff time of 4am I was freaking out, but heeded Tegal's advice about their twitter account and went to have a look. Sure enough there was a tweet advising that the game was delayed by 15mins due to tube issues in London. Score one for PLP... but my foolishness was revealed when I scanned their other tweets and read a comment about the kiwis being lucky in the league semifinal... thus ruining the recording I was saving for when I got up in the morning LOL - not a gripe at them at all, just a lesson to me to not read anything on the net out of curiosity if I have delayed sport waiting for me!

I just saw that they have Serie A in the highlights now. Pretty darn cool. Might check it out a bit later. 35mins worth of highlights.

Yeah wouldn't be a bad idea. Halfway through the season also means half the value from now on. It'll happen at some point, but before Christmas would be a good idea.

Apparently a problem with the app when you upgrade to 4.4OS on android. It's being worked on but perhaps DONT upgrade for this weekend.

Sorry, forgot to come back to say what happened. CSM have apparantly refunded the money to the credit card I paid with but I havent received this month's bill yet so can't confirm if it was in full.. I'm sure I read somewhere if you wanted to leave it would be a pro-rata'd amount but we'll see.

I don't really care to be honest, I've found an alternative supply which is great and I only wish I'd done it sooner.

Whilst I can understand the questions of whether it's my connection or CSM the fact I can stream iPlayer/NFL with no problems makes me question CSM. They said it might be a CDN problem and they would pass my experiences on to Neulion but I dont expect to receive a reply

Score one for PLP this morning. Days like today are where I get good value out of this service. At work, had the game going on my phone with my headphones in. Was able to work and listen, and just glance down when it sounded like something exciting was happening. Great picture, no issues at all, really enjoyed it.

Finally succumbed and got the missus to buy me one for Christmas with their specials out..  Had good experiences with the last couple of times I've used it, after initially have a mare with it.

Will enjoy watching Sunderland smash all before them and rise to the lofty heights of 17th by May.. (or thats the plan anyway)

Yeah I've recently taking to watching highlights on my phone on the bus. Brilliant.
Though can only do the 2min highlights rather than the show, as it tends to start freezing after about 8mins of continuous playing - stupid telecom, hoping when upgrade to their 4G (?) network it'll run better.

Got an e-mail saying that they'll be testing HD streams for some of the holiday fixtures.  Will be interesting to see if there's much difference.

I'm anxious that the bit rate control won't work on ipad and with our internet speed will lead to a stuttery ugly experience

but hey, it might be a beautiful thing and be introduced with nary the hint of a howling fuck-up

Watching the united game now on the Apple TV through airplay from my iPad. I'm assuming it's the new 4500kbps stream, it looks good.
I haven't actually seen a full game on plp for a while, the stream does not seem to be suffering from the judder on the wide shots, I do recall seeing it a bit last week when I watched a little bit of the villa game.
Ps nice goal Januzaj

(The goal, not the blatant dive. Got no time for that shit. He should stop hanging around Ashley Young)

Yeah, have to admit that the higher stream rate looked really good.  Unfortunately I'm now getting timed out every 10 minutes or so and needing to log back in.  I don't even have a second device in which to use PLP on.  Hopefully it'll sort itself prior to the Everton game tomorrow morning.

Yep that was awesome.

Couldn't possibly watch at 3000 again now haha

The first half was good for me as I said earlier. The 2nd though worst experience I've had with plp kept changing rates every 4-5 minutes after a near flawless first half @ 4500. Have no idea why.

The reverse happened to me. Bit choppy in first half, but then perfect in second. Think that was down to my wifi playing up though.

Guessing you watched on iPad? Think that is annoyingly set to "best available" and you can't change it, so that always happens to me when I watch it on mine. So just watch it on laptop when I'm at home now. Then highlights on phone when I'm on the bus.

Watched Spurs v Saints this morning on the iPad, and annoyingly on 4 occasions it stopped playing and told me id been logged out.

Of course you then need to sign in again and naturally the game starts at beginning of the broadcast again.

Very frustrating

Does anyone else sometimes have trouble logging in on the app? I hardly ever use it as I have a shitty phone but tried this morning and couldn't log in for some reason. I don't have any problems logging in on the website.

they seem to have confused "iterating from a minimal viable product"
with
"react to user feedback, write some code, don't bother to test it, launch it a really important time for your users, see what happens"
they might be adding improvements for some user groups but certainly have me less than impressed with this HD code dump

i had that problem a month or two back on the android app
havent had it since though

I was getting timed out often, and had to keep logging back in. I changed my password, as the FAQ suggested multiple logins cause this.

Next game day, i recieved emails saying i kept locking myself out.

What do you know - my email / pass was part of the adobe leak. And oops, naughty me i had re-used those creds on PLP.

Long story short, if you are geting constantly logged out mid games, change your password.

Hmmmm. I have just found a rather nasty denail of service attack in PLP. As i said above, it seemed people had managed to guess my password. So i changed password, all good.

but it seems if they continue to try and guess password, they cause your account to lock, which drops your session :(

Changing your email address seems to be the only solution, but if someone knows your email, its trival to disrupt your viewing...

PLP peeps, if you read this, fix this retarded behavior :/
