Hope he gets banned but would be a unusual decision by UEFA as they have allowed ronaldo, drogbra, van persie etc to dive for years

On the basis of what exactly?

do you want Gerrard banned every time he is "light on his feet"?
ffs, how can you justify a retroactive ban for a dive, when under any interpretation of the laws of the game a dive is worth a yellow card.
Mowbray didn't want to take it any further, the only reason UEFA are even "looking into it" is because the head of the SFA had a massive boohoo about it.
While they are looking at it, maybe they should ban McGeady for his sliding studs up challenge on Diaby, while he was lying on the ground, or that hilarious rugby tackle that one of the Celtic defenders made.

It was a dive, ref was sucked in, end of discussion on that regard.

If UEFA  do ban Eduardo, they will have to step in and analyse everything that happens on a pitch involving Arsenal, as Wenger will make sure they clarify how they justify it, then set it out as precedent for every other European club to be able to do this, in every game. in every league.

Wenger is smart enough to turn this against UEFA if they are stupid enough to bow to a media snow storm.

Me too. Guess it's coz no English or Scottish player has ever dived in the history of football...

"Bringing the game in to disrepute" is a possible charge. The FFA are tightening up on divers in the A-League under an FIFA directive so don't be surprised if he is sanctioned for his actions.

Its no longer a problem.

Champions League is run by UEFA, not FIFA. And the two don't like each other very much.

the Scots had a whinge about a Lithuanian player in 2007 and got him banned, now 2 years later they are having a whinge again, but i would really love to know what UEFA have done in the last 2 years to try and stop this and how many bans they have given out for this offence since then?

You're right, we should just accept cheating and say no more about it

Get over it - not the first time it happened, nor the last. The Scots should just stop moaning about it like little bitches and get on with their lives.

I don't think anybody's life has been put on hold by it, we're just of the opinion that someone who has been proven to have blatantly cheated should be punished - what is wrong with that exactly??

Had it been a Celtic player who dived and Celtic went on to win the game, I'm sure it'd be a different story.

Not all Scots are whinging about it, EG. I couldn't give a toss.

Because there's a litany of other players who have done exactly the same thing and never been punished.

And for Celtic players needed to have dived about 6 times in the Arsenal box to have a chance of winning. And I sincerely doubt that they got to the Arasenal box that many times in 180 minutes of the tie.

Btw, I'm not an Arsenal fan.

I know Jag, unfortunately had to generalise there since most of the noise is coming from Scottish FA and media.

It's hardly the team that loses out's fault that nothing has been done about it.

Perhaps now is the time to start punishing players? High profile matches and incidents will be targeted and if enough noise is made, UEFA feel pressure to do something.

People may have gotten away with it, and that's also wrong, but I don't think it's reason enough to have Eduardo get away with it when it's become a big deal.

I'm not bothered if it's Celtic by the way, I've seen them cheat their way  to victory on a number of occasions.

No worries, EG. Embarrassing overreaction and a big fuss about nothing, IMO. happens in games every week. Sadly, that is normally the case when they think that one of "The Ugly Sisters" aka C****c or R*****S have had a rough deal.  The Old Firm = 2 cheeks of the same arse as far as I'm concerned

But it's become a big deal selectively - why wasn't Owen's dive in 2002 WC made an example of? Why not Ronney's from the Premiership against Arsenal a few years back? Any one of a number of Gerrard dives?

The point being, if UEFA came out at the start of the season saying they'll take a harsh stance on proven 'simulations', then I'd have no problem with it. But now one incident has turned into the biggest problem the game's facing, when it's been a problem (and nowhere near as pervasive one as everyone seems to think) for a good number of years. Either deal with it in a systematic manner, or stop witch-hunting in some cases, and turning the other way in other cases.

The Premier League dives should have been dealt with by the Premier League, not UEFA.

World Cup - FIFA, and so on.

Gerrard is a cheat I agree!

I agree with what you say, but maybe if they make an example of Eduardo now, at the start of the season, then it will show a hard line will be taken. They really shouldn't have to say "Don't cheat" before the start of the season to make sure people don't!

UEFA/FIFA/Premier League - kind of beside the point now. It's not UEFA coming out swinging on this, but Scottish FA and media getting on their case.

Of course UEFA shouldn't have to say don't cheat, but when pretty much all the major football organisations and associations have dealt with most cases of simulation fairly leniently in the past, it's a extremely harsh to shift the goal-posts on players without any advance warning. Particualrly when bowing under pressure.

Well, my view is that if you cheat, you should accept any punishment you get.

Saying "but he never got in trouble for it" is a playground style excuse that a 9 year old would use in his defence.

But it makes it inherently unfair. And that's no way to set standards.

More unfair than the actual act of cheating in the first place?

I have to disagree.

I certainly don't think it's unfair that someone is punished for cheating, on the basis that someone else has gotten away with it before.

If we applied that theory to murder, then we'd free up plenty space in prisons I guess!

A dive is a dive is a dive. You can't pick out and punish single examples, or suddenly jump on this one because the Scottish media get upset about it.

It's got to be all or nothing and, although I haven't seen it, I wouldn't think the Eduardo dive is any worse than the load we'll see in games this weekend. If it's to be stamped out, all the governing bodies have to start taking action on all the incidents they come across.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I wonder what high moral ground people will be heading for if Greenacre takes a dive on Sunday, gets us a penalty and wins us the game. Will there be calls from Phoenix fans for him to be hammered by the FFA? Hmm....

And there goes my point - either everyone, or no-one. You can't selectively pick and choose when to punish 'divers', especially if you haven't set any off-field parameters for dealing with it in the first place.

Of course WE wouldn't call for him to be hammered, but somebody would, and if he was subsequently banned then I wouldn't be complaining! In fact, I'd be annoyed with him for doing it and not having him for the next couple of games, regardless of whether we'd won the game in question.

It is worse because in this case it was for a penalty, and the player who did it scored the resulting spot-kick.

What was it somebody said "Don't hate the player, hate the game". Why not have a pop at the system which, while not actively encouraging it, doesn't actually do an awful lot to stamp this rubbish out of the game. If something isn't being policed then people will abuse it.

Like I said earlier, picking and choosing. "Well the European governing body have come across this one".  ALL the governing bodies....ALL the incidents.

So, now we're putting values on the dives, this one was worse because it was for a penalty. So if hadn't been for a penalty it would have been OK and you'd be happy for no action to be taken?
