Pretty much, we don't have that sort of money lying around. Villa should get him unless we can offload yobo and Yak.

Btw we had 4-1 win over Bury overnight with Beckford getting injured I believe. Good match report Here

Everton have went down to a 1-0 loss against MLS outfit Philadelphia Union in the first game of their pre-season tour of the USA.

The match was a tepid affair that was notable for debuting youngsters and a strange red card for John Heitinga rather than any brilliant football.
Youth prospects Ross Barkley, Conor McAleny and Apostolos Vellios all had second half outings after a poor first half which saw the much fitter Union side run Everton ragged on numerous occasions, with the Blues only coming close via a Tim Cahill header from a wicked corner kick.
The second half saw the Toffees come into the game a bit more, with Seamus Coleman breaking free down the right but couldnt find the yard of pace needed to get away and have a clean strike on goal.
Vellios had the best chance on goal for Everton in the game, when Ross Barkley dribbled his way into the box on the left and clipped in a good cross for the Greek - however, his flick was saved well by the Union keeper.
Union, inspired by the impressive Roger Torres in the middle of the park, finally broke the deadlock after calamitous defending in the Everton penalty area resulted in the ball breaking free to Christian Hernandez, who wrapped his foot around the ball and fizzed a low shot beyond Jan Mucha after 87 minutes.
The talking point, however, will be the strange sending off of Heitinga with minutes to spare. The Dutch international ran into Hernandez, who seemed to retalliate violently. It was the Everton man who saw the straight red, much to the dismay of manager David Moyes.
Evertonians who stayed up to watch the game on evertonTV will be disappointed with the showing tonight, but against a much fitter opposition half way through their domestic season, you would do well to remember that pre-season is all about fitness at this stage.
Philadelphia Union 1 Everton 0.

'Everton Today'

"Finch Farm today
Seen rumours about Finch Farm today, was there also getting something signed for a family friends wedding, just a mini update
All players were training
We have an american on trial, don't know who just pretty much word of mouth there
We signed two kids today, one for the under 11 side and one for the under 12 side, didn't catch their full names but one was referred to as "billy" who we pinched from the ****e and another was matty, don't know where they play or anything they just arrived top to toe in the new training gear
Yobo was there, very polite, wished him well for wherever he went or whatever his future was, seemed genuinely great ful for the comment, everyone else bored him off
Didn't catch Yak but the lids there said he told them to "hurry up, im a busy man"
Arteta didn't stop, no idea about his injury
Osman only did one training session and left hours before everyone else, presume injured
Fellaini left with a car full of people, one looked like his ald fella who's always in the media
American agent arrived for J.Silva, no idea what about
Gueye and Vellios are now "first team" and won't be playing for the reserves unless injury/fitness etc
We've bought the field next to finch farm where they will build a lodge for all the young players who have been signed to live aswell a new astroturf pitches which bring a huge income in for other clubs training
Also they are hoping to build a school there for football coaching etc which will be a big money spinner and also it will then officially meet eufa standards for a top class resource
All focus is on finch farm as it's the biggest money spinner currently
Vellios is one of the nicest footballer's I've met
Billy look's just as dozy off the football pitch, took him a good 5 minutes to find himself on a team photo"

Birmingham City Vs Everton Match Report
EVERTON GIVE TROUBLED BIRMIHGHAM THE BLUES

Birmingham City put aside all their off the field problems as they hosted Everton in a pre season friendly at St Andrews on a very hot afternoon. Birmingham were aiming to bounce back after their defeat to Evertons opponents from the night before Oxford United in a mid week 2-0 defeat .the hosts who have had a lot of on goings at St Andrews with their former manager McLeish going to their bitter rivals Aston Villa and players departing after their relegation from the top flight in May

David Moyes fielded a strong team to play the Championship side whose season stars next week with a trip to Derby County and Everton a week later at Tottenham. Birmingham played in an all blue strip and Everton in their new gold shirts and in short sleeves to compliment the conditions as Everton had endured heat problems in the United States a week previously. Everton kicked off attacking the home end and playing a 4-1-2-1-2 formation with Beckford and Anichebe leading the Toffees front line. Birmingham showed first when Morgaro Gomis put Nathan Redmond away and the Dutchman Heitinga was Evertons saviour. Tim Howard playing his first game of pre season for Everton after being involved with his country in the Concaf cup was called upon early in the opening stages to block a good shot at close range from a very promising move with Burke making space to be foiled by Howard. Hibbert the full back knocked a long ball into the path of Beckford when Myhill in the hosts goal who had only signed 24 hours earlier from nearby West Bromwich |Albion came off his line to head the ball away under the nose of the Everton front man.

Anichebe was foiled after the much rumoured talk of Jagielka going to north London Arsenal long ball was helped on by Bilyaletdinov but never troubled at all. Anichebe after 9 minutes was set up by midfielder Osman whose crisp shot was hit first time but went wide of the goal. Birmingham in the early stages were looking more like the Premier side and Everton vice a versa and Hibbert was put under pressure for failing to hold onto a ball and was robbed by Fahey who unleashed a shot from 25 yards out. Birmingham were playing some nice football under the newly appointed Chris Hughton whose name was ringing out with chants from the locals. Leon Osman seemed to be upset for a decision as Referee Iain Williamson gave the home side a free kick, the former Tottenham man Stephen Carrs effort was blocked by Howard and made Baines a victim for a tongue lashing

Howard was busy again moments later when he had to put a cross cum shot from the lively Burke over the bar and out for a corner, .as the corner was played over from the right the ball was in the home sides box and only for Hibbert saving a goal line effort and saving their blushes Everton would have been one down but thankfully werent. Howard must have not expected to be called upon as much as he was when again his athleticism was called upon to catch a swinging cross from the dangerous Gomis who again later threatened but was thwarted by Coleman Baines was the victim of another concern from the USA goalkeeper Howard when he blocked a shot from Redmond but was upset with something that he saw.The home side pressed again when Redmond miss kicked after Burke had once again deprived Hibbert of a good challenge.

On 27 minutes Everton had an effort which fell to Beckford to create a shot but never really troubled Myhill who in return produced an easy save.. Evertons Osman who had been the best player towards the end of the last campaign managed to hit his shot wide of the left hand post but Evertons hopes to create were severely disappointing without putting the hosts under any serious pressure and being the inferior side at this stage.

Everton seemed to be at a walking pace from the back as they tried to build an attack and threaten the home side but the heat was probably taking its toll on the players. With 40 minutes gone Baines and Bilyaletdinov combined together on the left hand side and a good cross was not met from Anichebe who for some reason failed to jump to head the ball and the ball was wasted, with the first half coming to a close Coleman on the right cut inside and played an unselfish ball to Osman who again felt a first time shot was on but again narrowly went wide of the post. Evertons defenders seemed to make things too easy as a chance at the end of the half troubled Everton and Bilyaletdinov put his body in to block a tackle and earn a warm round of applause for his work.
The fourth official Simon Barrow seemed to find a minute to display on his board but the 1,166 away fans who made the trip just wanted the first half to end as it was not a good performance at all. The half time whistle was a welcome boost for the Everton fans and Tim Howard was the busiest of the keepers and taking the man of the match award for the first 45 minutes. If Birmingham would have gone in at the break 4-0 up I dont think there would have been many complaints.

Half Time Birmingham City 0 Everton 0

Moyes made two changes at half time bringing off Jagielka and Beckford and replacing them with Distin and Cahill
Howard had to carry on where he left off in the first half when he tipped over another inviting cross as the Brummies came forward. Burke hit a grass cutter outside the box only for the American Howard to gather comfortably and Saha was warming up on the far side after recovering from his oxygen tent hoping to make his first appearance of the pre season campaign.
Coleman was active and was brought down on the edge of the area when he cut inside from the right but was fouled as he tried to restore some dignity to this ordinary Everton team performance. But with 58 minutes gone Baines the master of the free kicks took up his position to give Myhill no chance and put Everton into an undeserved lead then immediately replaced Anichebe with Saha . Neville went to the left back position for the goalscorer Baines and Cahill dropped back into midfield after playing for a short while up front. 4 Minutes later the sub Saha was set up by Bilyaletdinov to play into the path of King Louis when his effort outside the box seemed to take a bobble and bounce over the agonising Myhill.

The last 23 minutes saw the introduction of the much talked about future star Ross Barkley who had played for an hour for the reserves at Oxford the night before who replaced Seamus Coleman. A minute later Bilyaletdinov who had a good game for Everton was replaced by the new look Yakubu who then partnered Saha upfront with Anichebe moving to the right hand side of midfield. With 17 minutes remaining Burke beat Phil Neville to the ball who ran like an athlete but was met by Anichebe who had other ideas. But only a minute later Burke who was having a good game for the Mdlanders hit a shot which seemed to take a deflection off Rooney and deceive Howard to bring the deficit down to one goal and give the home side hope.

8 min utes remained when Hibberts deep cross was aimed to Saha but Myhill collected the ball without being troubled. On 87 minutes a substitution from both sides Gueye who also played the night before at the Kassam Stadium replaced Anichebe and Asante replaced Rooney. Considering. Barkley was only brought on late in the game his presence really lifted Everton and was clearly a handful for his marker. He won Everton a free kick as he charged forward and was cruelly brought down but from a quick free kick Gueye made Myhill put a 2 fisted punch to the ball to clear the danger.
In the 2 added minutes that were awarded Howard made a good save at the near post from a desperate Birmingham attack.

As this was a game of two halves and Howard being Evertons best player for the first half Ross Barkley was credited with his performance in the second half

After the way we played this Am  vs Villareal, i'm not holding much hope for a top 10 finish this season we have no creativity in the team what so ever and have no show of scoring goals by the looks either

OK, so the club are calling it a successful transfer window (so far) because we didn't loose any of our top players. WTF, does the club have any ambition? We had a squad good enough for 7th last season but no teams are weaker so unless we begin the season a lot better we destined for mid-table mediocrity again.
Coleman out for up to 6 weeks and Arteta likely out for 2-3 weeks.
Also possibility of the game v Tottenham being postponed. TBC.

Its no longer a problem.

it'll be successful at 12am 1st September,Coleman is a big loss i reckon given the size of the squad and Mikel trained two days running apparently.if we make top 10 i'll be amazed, we only need to lose two players to injury (probably Saha and mikel) and we'll slip further down the table.
In some good news Tim Cahill scored a goal and assisted in the 2nd today as Aussie beat Wales 2-1

As I suspected game v Yids is postponed due to the riots. First games will now be v QPR at home. Actually don't mind this as I'm keen to start the season with a win and it gives another week to sign some new faces (dreaming) and get Arteta fit.

Its no longer a problem.

Pretty interesting stuff. It may explain the comments he made just before about the banks not letting us spend money. He claims he wants to sell the club but it really seems like he doesn't want to

Very good read.  We're in a difficult situation.  We all want them to be competitive and be in those European positions, but if it comes down to it, I'd rather they stay in the Premier League then mortgage themselves to the hilt and fall apart ala Leeds & Portsmouth.

There's lots of seemingly uninformed comments out there on various websites about what a crap job the Board & Chariman are doing and that they should be investing their own money, but reading this seems to put it a bit more in perspective about Bill's own financial interest in the club (personal guarantees, not taking a wage etc).

From what I've read it seems to me that to get the new owner we require to take us to the next step, we really need a new stadium which, as Kirby shows, may not be popular with the locals.  Hard to critisize those guys though as they are the lads that attend the games week-in week-out, however, if the club is to move forward in the long run, something needs to be done - refurbishing Goodison won't be enough.

Re: transfers - while it would be nice to see some new players coming in, I'm just happy they've managed to keep the core of the side together (so far).  If we need to sell to buy then so be it - putting the club further in debt isn't the way forward (IMO).

Anyway, looking forward to the game this weekend.  QPR will be looking to bounce back after the Bolton game, but I'm hoping a fit again Saha can smash a couple past them (be good for my fantasy team as well).

Looks like Yobo is going to Turkey for 2 million.

Any thoughts on the game against QPR, boys??

I'm predicting Moyes will surprise everyone with a 4-5-1 and we will win 1-0 thanks to a 35 yard Hibbo screamer 65 mins in.

Long long season ahead, we were bush the whole game. Barkley however was brilliant, for a 17 year old on debut. the senior players though need to take a long hard look at themselves that performance was terrible.

Not my words but pretty much on the spot:

"Sure - an Everton shareholder rings in to shed some more light on the current situation. Thought he came across pretty well, but scared the merde out of me.
The shareholder rang in and said some stuff we already know - such as the fact that shareholders no longer get to go to an AGM and ask questions about the business. They just get given a buffet and a chance to listen to the Chief Exec wax lyrical about the club, with no questions allowed to be asked.

But the real frightening stuff. Kenwright was saying the other day that we just cannot afford to borrow any more. At all.
However - it turns out that on 5th August, the club took out a new mortgage to the tune of 13m, secured against future Premier League revenue in the 2012/13 season. This is to be repaid over this year, at a cost of 1.3m (so 10% interest).

This isn't for transfers etc - this is purely and simply for running costs. We're having to borrow against future income to stay afloat!

However - the REALLY scary thing. The mortgage has been taken out from a company in the British Virgin Isles. The shareholder guy did a bit of digging (all via the public record), and the address of the company is the exact same address of a company owned by one of Everton's 'directors', Robert Earl!

So we're in a position, seemingly, where we're in massive debt, and a director of the club is effectively going to make a profit out of our debt by lending us money and making 1.3m in interest!

The presenters were really quite shocked and asked the guy to email in the links to the info he'd uncovered so they could investigate it further."

That'll be the document the club used, to stop the bank forcing them to sell players to pay the debt owed. otherwise we'd be put into administration. seriously scary, no wonder everyone not in our first 11 has been sent out on loan, can't afford to pay them. Also by borrowing from future revenue we're actually breaking a premier league rule which funnily enough will prevent us being active in the transfer market as if found guilty we'd be banned from it (the transfer market)

Can anyone explain why multi-billionaires don't find Everton an attractive buying option. They have a huge, loyal fan base (domestic and international), impressive history, the best manager in the EPL, a decent squad to build on, proven academy that produces fantastic players and a decent recent history with very little investment. For some reason West Ham, Man City, Hull City, Portsmouth, Fulham etc all seem more attractive. Three of these teams have been relegated recently. WTF, does BK want too much for the club or is he detracting potential buyers so he can keep the club he dearly loves.

Its no longer a problem.
