another experienced player to aid the battle!

Stelios Giannakopoulos has signed for City on a free transfer.
The midfielder signs until the end of the season. The deal is allowed to go through even though the transfer window is shut as the player was unattached when it closed.

He was released by Bolton Wanderers in the summer after five years at the club, making 177 appearances in all competitions and scoring 28 goals.

Born in Athens, he played twice for Greece in this year's European Championship, and was a winner four years ago. He has a total of 77 caps and 13 international goals to his name.

Now 34 years old, Giannakopoulos will give Phil Brown more options in the absence of the injured Craig Fagan.

having the Boat back I'm sure gave us a bit more steel and calmness

i thought he, Ash and Marney did well to get in front of anything through midfield, hell even Geo was tackling back

andy dawson (along with Ash and Myhill) a stalwart from our div 2 days, tackled well - despite struggling for pace v Walcott

Turner was superb at the back, though on one occasion, on the edge of the 6 yard box, he stabbed the ball at full stretch to one of your lot

i thought Coussy and Marlon did well to be available and hold the ball up (not sure about MK's ball across your box in the 89th)

two nice goals

still a bit stunned,

and if we learn from the mistakes we did make, and use the memory of that effort to retain our confidence, we might avoid the worst of the dreaded mid-winter slump

sorry UG but i cant offer any opinions on your lot, i was a bit focussed on the stripey lads

The game kicked off here at 2.30am.
The "Child-Bride" is quietly tucked away in her bed with our two cats. I had forecast a 7-0 drubbing. We were playing the Mighty Arsenal at the Emirates and they had won 6-0 during the week.
Half time and it's 0-0. I make my way quietly downstairs and make a cuppa and return along with a KitKat bar.
Second half and the Arsenal score. I think 'here comes the avalanche' as I finish my tea and KitKat.
Then we score - I manage to contain myself as it is getting on for 4.00am but then WE SCORE AGAIN! I cannot help myself. I promised I wouldn't but out came my old 1960's rattle and I let rip. The "Child-Bride" went absolutely barmy (she is going through change and has PMS to boot) as the cats, their hair standing on end, shot downstairs and took refuge behind the settee in the living room.
"If I hear that f*cking rattle one more f*cking time I'll ram it fair and square up your f*cking ar5e" she said gently.
The next door neighbour gave me a dirty look when I got up at 12.30pm and snarled "I gather your wog-ball team won last night"
"We beat Arsenal on THEIR ground" I said proudly.
"Sh*t"! he said "What's the name of your team again"?
"Hull City"! I said, even more proudly.
"Never 'erd of 'em" he muttered shuffling back inside.

It is also the morning after the most important event on the Australian Football Calendar, the GRAND FINAL where a capacity crowd of 100,012 watched as the underdogs "Hawthorn Hawks" caused the biggest upset of the season by defeating the almost unbeatable "Geelong Cats" (who had only lost once during the season) by 115 points to 89.
To me, this achievement pales into insignificance at what my beloved "Tigers" achieved yesterday.
Well done to all concerned with this historic win that caused an almost bed-ridden 70 year old to swing his old die-hard rattle round his head at 4.00am in the morning like a lunatic!
As Maxwell Smart said "And, LOVIN' it"!!

The suprising thing for me, is that it proves unquestionably 100% beyond any possible doubt that cats (/Tigers) are indeed stronger than Gun[ner]s.

The AFL Grand Final taught us that Cats (just Cats) can be beaten by birds (Hawks) - which is contradictory to everything I've observed in my time.

So the REAL question is...if cats beat guns, and birds beat cats, does that mean birds are in fact MORE powerful than guns?

If so, there's a whole 'sporting' industry in total disarray...

nice to read that you 'braved' the game Oztiger

now i know you are even less likely to get carried away than me, but i do think we might survive

i doubt we'll be able to take too many teams completely by surprise anymore, but Phil Brown is canny enough to pick up more points and there has to be a bloody good feeling around the club (cheer up Deano, you aren't forgotten) that should help us put off the traditional 'new boys mid-season slump' for a while

my wife got up for the kick off and went to bed again ten mins later , warning me not to be too grumpy if/when we lost

she woke (coincidently) just after cousin's winner hit the back of the net

i've been smiling ever since

and the Phoenix win make it a double miracle weekend!

Can you guys think of any reason why you cant thrash spurs this weekend?.
Could you please see you way to at least beat them by more than one goal. And if you can keep a clean sheet that would be great.
Thanks in advance.

i expect we'd be quite happy to fulfill your fanstasy's UG,

the risk is that Ramos and Poyet (motivated by the axe that is hoveringin the background) might just motivate their rabble to perform

here's hoping they fail

(we tend to do ok without clean sheets, but hey i'm keen to try something new)

the Independent's take on why City are doing well

1 - recruiting 'Allardyce -style' = players with something to prove (Geo, Gardner, Cousin, Stelios, - Mendy ?)

2- recruit early, get a few new faces in  = 13 players for 7.9 mill (3 on loan)

3- put the new lads in without stuffing up the team spirit = Deano will have a moan but he'll get over it

4 - have personel and tactical options avaialble for different opposition = play 2 +1 upfront v arsenal

5 - facial hair (woops, its all come off for charity)

Hey tigers, you'll be pleased to know that the predictor said you would beat Spurs 1-0. It thinks you'll finish 12th now. The only thing of concern is the average strength of opposition so far:
Rank Team Average Points of Opposition Faced So Far % of Overall Average 1 Manchester City 12.429 127.473% 2 Stoke City 11.857 121.612% 3 Tottenham Hotspur 11.571 118.681% 4 Manchester United 11.333 116.239% 5 Fulham 11.000 112.821% 6 Newcastle United 10.714 109.890% 7 Everton 10.286 105.494% 8 Sunderland 10.143 104.029% 8 Wigan Athletic 10.143 104.029% 10 Blackburn Rovers 9.857 101.099% 11 West Bromwich Albion 9.714 99.634% 12 Aston Villa 9.571 98.169% 13 Liverpool 8.857 90.842% 14 Bolton Wanderers 8.714 89.377% 14 Middlesbrough 8.714 89.377% 16 Arsenal 8.571 87.912% 16 Portsmouth 8.571 87.912% 18 Chelsea 8.429 86.447% 19 West Ham United 7.857 80.586% 20 Hull City 7.429 76.190%

Still, you can only beat the teams you've played. It's good to see some interest in the Prem away from the bottom of the table (unlike the top, the bottom is the only end of the table that always provides entertainment to neutrals).
