Liverpool Thread - Premier League Champions* 2019/20 (Part 1)
Another striker is our most pressing need, but it will need to be someone who won't mind a squad/reserve position, but still be good enough to fill in when Torres is injured. Maybe an older experienced striker or a young one to play understudy (or both).
With Riera and Kuyt on both flanks, I think this is where we need depth too. I don't mind both starting as they do their roles nicely, Kuyt gets up and down the flank and defends like an extra right back as well as popping up for a goal every now and then. Riera holds position really well, can beat his man and whip in a deadly ball. but we don't have much depth, Babel wants to be a striker and with Benayoun more of a attack midfielder (like classic 10), both of them like to cut in and shoot.
I'm basing my assumptions that Benitez sticks to his current 4-5-1 formation with Gerrard the free role midfielder.
Also if touted future first team players Paul Anderson, David N'Gog, Kristian Nemeth, Damien Plessis, Jay Spearing, Emilio Insua, Nabil El Zhar all step up then we don't have to worry about any new signings. I most want to see Paul Anderson who has been away on various loans but has been injured for many games, but he did well at Swansea.
Although most of our future stars haven't lived up to their billing.

And Dani Pacheco! This kid is brilliant.
Agree with almost all of that. nobody should play up front alongside Torres, he's too good with Gerrard behind him. I think we need another match-winner up front (in the three behind Torres). Riera doesnt take on his man enough! I guess if Babel and Benayoun step up, then they could be effective. They are good squad players and the kind we need in other positions.
No no, I'm talking about Degen, you ever seen him play? He runs up and down the pitch like a headless chicken!
Yeah, Aurelio is doing well because he is staying injury free! He was always a good player, but he has been great this year. Yeah, although they had a pretty torrid time in January and February (see Cahill, Mido etc).
Barry is left-footed? Fulham will be a really hard game. But we need to win every game now! Come on! (Although there's still another round of internationals to try and come through unscathed).
How 'bout this then, Eto'o to Liverpool?

Oh, and more good news Jay Spearing and Stephen Darby will be offered contract extensions
Strikers like him,Anelka, Drogba and Berbatoff are magic some days and then sulky and uniterested the next. I suppose that's part of what makes them good strikers being arrogant and big headed. I'd be keen and because I am keen Rafa should sign him up! He must be getting on in age though?

) Eto'o... Ha! Give me Ribery any day of the week! Eto'o isnt going to sit in the reserves all week and its not like we need him when we have the best striker in the world already!! I just think that with the (failed) Keane transfer and even Villa next to him in the Euro's, Torres is best when he's by himself up front, with Gerrard behind him.
As has been said, great for Spearing and Darby... Spearing was class against Madrid and anyone who plays well against those scum gets my vote!
Lionel Yossi- thank you! I thought that our title chances were slipping away, but Yossi had other ideas! Great moment seeing the ball hit the back of the net! The fans yesterday were fantastic. Just great. Pity United were so lucky today, but we have to win the rest of our games and then see where that puts us.
I like your optimism but it's going to take a quality performance from the blues to get a couple past Reina.
Hopefully we'll see Maschy, Reira and Agger back in the starting line up, although given Dossena's form at present he could be pushing for a spot again.

From the Guardian....
"Liverpool will be without Javier Mascherano for the first leg of the quarter-final, the Argentina captain suspended as a result of a harsh booking in the 40 rout of Real Madrid, and responsibility is likely to fall on the much-maligned Lucas in his absence."
