Someone said that rafa was looking for a sstriker, a right midfielder and a right back?! still I suppose if this was true, he wouldn't be going after Barry unless Barry was going to play on the right.

I wouldnt mind Barry as long as we kept Xabi! Alonso is just superb, he's been so great, this season especially. Nah, wouldnt want Villa- would rather Torres with Gerrard behind him!! Silva might be okay (although a little bit soft?). I don't know. Our first XI is really strong, its the lack of depth (although Benayoun is a good option). Maybe need one more match winner for our team, I guess a right winger. I'm not too sure.

I think getting Barry is unnecessary as our central midfield is our strength and our starting line up is rock solid with Alonso, Mascherano, Gerrard. Unless he will play and more squad role but I doubt he would want to.

Another striker is our most pressing need, but it will need to be someone who won't mind a squad/reserve position, but still be good enough to fill in when Torres is injured. Maybe an older experienced striker or a young one to play understudy (or both).

With Riera and Kuyt on both flanks, I think this is where we need depth too. I don't mind both starting as they do their roles nicely, Kuyt gets up and down the flank and defends like an extra right back as well as popping up for a goal every now and then. Riera holds position really well, can beat his man and whip in a deadly ball. but we don't have much depth, Babel wants to be a striker and with Benayoun more of a attack midfielder (like classic 10), both of them like to cut in and shoot.

I'm basing my assumptions that Benitez sticks to his current 4-5-1 formation with Gerrard the free role midfielder.

Also if touted future first team players Paul Anderson, David N'Gog, Kristian Nemeth, Damien Plessis, Jay Spearing, Emilio Insua, Nabil El Zhar all step up then we don't have to worry about any new signings. I most want to see Paul Anderson who has been away on various loans but has been injured for many games, but he did well at Swansea.

Although most of our future stars haven't lived up to their billing.

And Dani Pacheco! This kid is brilliant.

Agree with almost all of that. nobody should play up front alongside Torres, he's too good with Gerrard behind him. I think we need another match-winner up front (in the three behind Torres). Riera doesnt take on his man enough! I guess if Babel and Benayoun step up, then they could be effective. They are good squad players and the kind we need in other positions.

Everyone is saying "We need a  new right back" etc, but I think Arbeloa is a great player. If he could learn to cross rather than hit his man, he'd be away...

Yeah, but when Arbeloa has been injured we've had to play Carragher there. So we need a back up.

Yeah, but people are saying a "world class" full back like Ramos (meet Ryan Babel). We need back up, for sure. But hardly someone "world class".

We have Degen, who has been injured so far this season. Signed specifically to fill a reserve role. I can't see him being anything other than that.

Haha, yeah. That guy is made of biscuits though! And he seems to prefer second striker to right back...

Aurelio has come good as well. Actually our whole defence has been real solid this year. We have Agger as cover as well I hope he stays on past the summer. Some of Rafas signings have underwhelmed huh Babel promises much, Voronin was a dud, Pennant. I think that we do lack a little depth in the attacking areas and rely too much on Torres and Stevie G. Maybe rafa sees Barry as a right mid? Tricky game Vs Fulham this weekend

You're getting your players mixed up. Linds was talking about Degen but you seem to be commenting on Dossena.

No no, I'm talking about Degen, you ever seen him play? He runs up and down the pitch like a headless chicken!

Yeah, Aurelio is doing well because he is staying injury free! He was always a good player, but he has been great this year. Yeah, although they had a pretty torrid time in January and February (see Cahill, Mido etc).

Barry is left-footed? Fulham will be a really hard game. But we need to win every game now! Come on! (Although there's still another round of internationals to try and come through unscathed).

Strikers like him,Anelka,  Drogba and Berbatoff are magic some days and then sulky and uniterested the next. I suppose that's part of what makes them good strikers being arrogant and big headed. I'd be keen and because I am keen Rafa should sign him up! He must be getting on in age though?

I'm all for extending Spearing and Darby's contract. Couple of good local lads who I think will do well. Not so sure about Eto'o though, great player but will his attitude see him fit in with the team? I'd like to see either Silva or Ribery signed although Rafa's said he's gone off Silva (just like he said he wouldn't sell Keane during the Jan transfer window )

Eto'o... Ha! Give me Ribery any day of the week! Eto'o isnt going to sit in the reserves all week and its not like we need him when we have the best striker in the world already!! I just think that with the (failed) Keane transfer and even Villa next to him in the Euro's, Torres is best when he's by himself up front, with Gerrard behind him.

As has been said, great for Spearing and Darby... Spearing was class against Madrid and anyone who plays well against those scum gets my vote!

Good to see some of the lads on the score sheet again after this mornings games. Kuyt with another couple, Alonso and Reira hit the net too. Bodes well for Fulham.

yeeesss!!! Yossi to the rescue

Oh Yossi!!!!

That game was extremely frustrating, near misses, cross bars, posts, side netting. Thought Benayoun missed our last opportunity when he shot into the netting, so relieved. Wooo

There's nothing like a couple of heart attacks to kick off the day... Cheers Yossi, you've done it again!

Lionel Yossi- thank you! I thought that our title chances were slipping away, but Yossi had other ideas! Great moment seeing the ball hit the back of the net! The fans yesterday were fantastic. Just great. Pity United were so lucky today, but we have to win the rest of our games and then see where that puts us.

Chelsea next...

In regards to me "creaming my pants", it isnt like that, but I do love to watch Xabi play. Definitely the most cultured footballer I've seen, although I never saw Molby.

Chelsea 2 Liverpool 1

I like your optimism but it's going to take a quality performance from the blues to get a couple past Reina.

Hopefully we'll see Maschy, Reira and Agger back in the starting line up, although given Dossena's form at present he could be pushing for a spot again.

2-0 to us. Super hard to beat at home, especially for Chelsea if Drogba is out

I think Masch and Riera are certainties, but not sure Agger will displace Skrtel.  I predict...

Reina
Aurelio-Skrtel-Carragher-Arbeloa
Masch-Xabi Alonso
Kuyt-Gerrard-Riera
Torres

Pretty much our strongest XI, with Benayoun, Babel, Dossena and Agger the most likely subs to get on.

Amped up for this one!

Nah at home for this game......

From the Guardian....

"Liverpool will be without Javier Mascherano for the first leg of the quarter-final, the Argentina captain suspended as a result of a harsh booking in the 40 rout of Real Madrid, and responsibility is likely to fall on the much-maligned Lucas in his absence."

Gargh, Lucas. Nevermind, we can beat the blues with 10.

Malouda - "My mate Lampard is better than Gerrard"

Thems fighting words...

2-0 for me.

He does fine. How'd the "best player in the world" cope with him? I thought he had a good second half against Fulham, getting physical, after bouncing off a player when he tried to make a tackle in the first half! He has some terrbile weaknesses, but show a little bit more faith!

Malouda is just trying to grab some headlines for himself. And while Lampard is a good player, I think we all know that anyone with a brain would have him ahead of Lampard...

Rafa...Just, what a man. Did you see his cheeky smile when he was saying it, responding to Mr Ferguson's comments? The guy is class.
