I remember a few seasons ago, when he scored two penalties at their place when we won 1-2. Went fking mental that day. Right at the death, stepped up and slotted it. I love Kuyt. I think Imma get a shirt with his name on the back.

good news about Suso. And Dani was on the bench again yesterday. Really good first half, fell to pieces a little bit in the second. No surpsrises that Agger goers off and we look really bad at the back, and don't look like creating anything. I love Dirk Kuyt, too.

I think this will be my last 'Roy' post. Time to move on.

Saw an interesting comment yesterday about Roy. All these non LFC types have been telling us to stick with Roy, we haven't given him anytime and he's a top European manager. No ones now mentioning him for the West Ham job? Or any for that matter...

See ya later Babel.......at least he is not going to another EPL team as I still think he could be a good player if he played regularly. No gossip of that happening either.....I wonder if NESV will stay out of the gossip columns so all this talk of Suarez etc is rubbish

A couple of conflicting reports this morning.

1. Babel bid from Hoff accepted
2. Babel part of Suarez move. Babel: "I'm part of a swap with Luis."

Either way looks like Babel's gone.

Speed racer!!

I wonder if there is any possibility that they won't agree terms? Wouldn't have thought so but if not then Babel comes back to Perennial strugglers Liverpool knowing that he isn't wanted.

Re your Roy post...you can see already that the players are playing with more passion etc so there were obviously players clashes with Roy etc...those Roy lovers can see ya later!

Look at Torres. The guy is a different player than he has been for the last six months. He looks like he cares again. I even saw him smile on the weekend. Maybe having a manager who stands up for you does that... Anybody who thinks we should have kept Roy knows sweet eff all about our club/ is a United or Bitters fan

Yeah, looks like Babel is gone. I'd prefer to swap him for Suarez, but ok, we'll see.

I would have thought Hoff would be perfect for Babel, good league and team with a big owner who's building a team that has gone from the 3rd division up to Bundesliga and the chance to play full time. I thought he would have been worth more than the $5-7m reported though.

On the other hand a move to Ajax would also be perfect for both parties. Obviously Babel came from there, knows the club. Suarez wants out, Babel want match time so this scenario comes down to whether Suarez can be lured to 'Pool.

Yeah. Defo would prefer to get him as part of a deal between us and Ajax, but its good that we're getting rid at least- as long as the money can get put back into the team.. El-Nio2011-01-19 08:48:36

Absolutely! Finally got around to watching the first half of the derby last night. Torres hasn't played like that for a year. His confidence is returning, you can tell by the little runs he takes. He's backing himself against the defenders again and 'avin' a go!

oh i see, professional footballers can't act professionally for their 100k per week unless they have a manager who 'sticks up for them' (not sure against who or what exactly)

also, to the person who commented about roy and westham - why would they want him when they are apparently getting Martin O'Neill? I know who I'd rather have...

fulham should sack hughes and take roy back, they were the perfect fit

^On all accounts that post is way off.

O'Neil turned down WH.

(I like your fishing rod by the way. Penn?)

if MoN has turned Westham down then Roy might be a good next option for them - although his confidence may be a tad down at the moment lol

Further to the torres thing, if he continues in the everton vein then things are looking up - very good comment here from F365 recently;

While bad results in the first half of this season could be quite easily placed at the door of a manager who many fans didn't want in the first place, any blame will have to be spread now that the King is back.

And it is clear that the majority of the Perennial strugglers Liverpool squad (Pepe Reina and, at a push, Lucas aside) have chronically underperformed, but have managed to hide, to an extent, behind the tidal wave of opprobrium launched in the direction of Hodgson.

Not any more.

Lolz, well, obviously Kenny standing up for him isn't the only reason he''s changed his attitude.. But I won't bother going into detail cos you don't really care and the less said about Roy, the better!

Is this really 'Pool? Are we getting our club back?!

Kenny, Suso and lifts to Melwood

In our latest column from the club's youth base, Academy director Frank McParland tells us how a lift from Kenny Dalglish resulted in a training session with Steven Gerrard and co for two lucky starlets.

----
I was at home relaxing on Sunday night when the phone rang.

It was the boss. He told me he'd be down to the Academy on Monday morning at 9.30am sharp and to make sure I had the kettle on!

So, we got everyone together first thing the next day and got them to dress smart for the occasion.

When Kenny arrived we had a quick cup of tea and then he addressed everyone - both Academy staff and players.

He told us that he is focused on spreading the message that this is 'one club' and is very keen for us to get together with the staff from Melwood to actively talk about our young players.

He wants to get down here as much as possible.

He assured the players that there would be big opportunities ahead for them to be involved in first-team training sessions and that some of them will be going away with the first-team for Barclays Premier League games so they can sample the experience of it all.

He mentioned that he was really pleased with the Youth Cup win over Crystal Palace and that the lads had the chance to play at Anfield. We are now using the prozone that the first-team have and will analyse the stats of that performance with it. We have scheduled meetings to discuss this further with Damien Comolli and all of the other fitness people from Melwood.

Everything has been hugely positive and it is great that the Academy is so heavily involved in Kenny's plans.

After that meeting he decided to take Conor Coady and Suso up to Melwood with him to train with the first-team.

He took me and the two boys down to Melwood in his car which was obviously a great moment for them. I watched them train with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Joe Cole and Fabio Aurelio - all the players who weren't involved against Everton.

They both did very well and were a credit to the Academy. I have to say that just watching Gerrard in training was special. Conor and Suso came off the pitch and said that for a 20 minute spell the skipper was unplayable. I was watching and I had to agree with them!

The two lads will now spend the rest of the week there and it is very possible they will go to the game with Wolves and stay at the hotel.

After the session, the boss decided he would drive us back and we watched the U15s train in the afternoon. It was a really good day - but it didn't stop there.

The first-team had the day off on Tuesday and Kenny was at Melwood for various meetings. However, it didn't stop him hot-footing it down to Kirkby to watch an U17s friendly with Shrewsbury.

We had a lot of the scholars who haven't been playing regularly for Rodolfo involved, as well as Jason Banton who we signed recently. He scored and did okay for us which was a positive because we all want to have a good look at what he can offer us.

The fact Kenny took up a place in the dugout alongside Rodolfo was also a nice touch and it will have given all the lads involved a huge lift to have the opportunity to impress the first-team boss.

It's certainly exciting times for us here and great that the boss is bringing us altogether as one.

The only thing I can say (other than good on Kenny for doing it) is that it is very sad that the article makes it seem like this is the exception to the rule. I would have thought that this is exactly what should be happening at all clubs.

Totally agree. But it must be great for young players to know that they are being watched and are in the bosses thoughts. Well done Kenny

That is a great piece and i agree, surely that's the sort of gaffer you want at all clubs. Obviously Kenny is not for a second buying into the splash-the-cash approach. He is looking out for the future of the club, not the future of the season. You guys should be signing him up long term for shizz.

I imagine with our youth approach that wenger does similar things but who knows, i would love to read a piece like that from arsenal!

the kid is boss. okay, these 'wonderkids' come out so much. but he has real potential. Only just turned 17 and he runs the show for the reserves and his touch and technique are far superior to pretty much anybody in our team/ the League. I'm not even joking. really gotta hope we develop him well.

Good read that, I'm not so much of a hardcore fan as you lot so don't know a huge amount about the youth/ressies

also interesting to see several comparisons to the Ajax academy, reminded me of an article I read about it once: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/06/magazine/06Soccer-t.html, not really Perennial strugglers Liverpool related but an interesting read if you have some time to kill

What about Kelly? Will he hold the RB position for the rest of the season?
Also, just watched the Suso video. Wow.steelo2011-01-20 17:12:54

He really does have talent! and looks incredible... however the rest of the team didn't look very flash at all from that video. not taking anything away from him though!

Martin Kelly has been top this year, probably the 'Pool's third best player (performance wise this season) after Reina and Lucas.

Yeah, apparently he gets really frustrated at the technique and touch of many of the other players in the team... Mind you, it wouldn't be much better for him in the first team

Bid rejected for adam? I spose a bit of a replacement for Alonso perhaps? Must say when I watched blackpool beat us it was pretty refreshing to see him spray the ball all over the pitch like he did and like Alonso used to.

hopefully we can also get some payback for the Anfield fixture

Yeah get in! Tap in from Torres from an incisive pass from Poulsen (I know, what?), a deserved goal on the balance of play from the first half I would say.
