the reason why i didnt think this mornings performance was that bad is because unlike in our bad performances last season, today we actually got atleast one shot on target

Yeah. Brilliant. Tactically, we were hammered today. We were outplayed, outfought and beaten soundly everywhere over the park. But at least we got that fat Spanish waiter out, eh? Ffs. Good ol' Uncle Woy, has us playing like Fulham in a couple of weeks. He's a magician, he is.

While Roy's 4-4-2 idea got blown out of Manchester today you'd have to expect that he's learned his lesson, he's no fool. It may have been a last minute gamble with Masch going awol but I can't see him trying that again soon. (fingers crossed)
Agger coming back was also a shocker but understandable given Aurelio's track record with injury and an away trip to Turkey in a few days. Roy's between a rock and hard place right and he's going to have to learn quick smart.

Let's remember it's game 2, if we're still making stupid 4-4-2 mistakes come November/December then yep, let's get the worry beads...

Having said that I'd also expect some of the auld heads like Gerrard, Carragher and Torres to have the guts to question a formation like 4-4-2. Maybe it was a gamble, if so, it should have been changed at the half.

i trust in woy, and the fact he's english plays no part in me believing he is a good manager.
i still think over the course of the season we will be good enough to finish in the top 4

Good, maybe. But not great. Rafa had this team punching above their weight for years. Maybe some people will come to repect that now...

Yeah, I still back Roy and all that. Just really angry about today.

This. It would've been nice to see a change before 75 minutes and we were 3-0 down...

there is some serious competition, i think you guys would do very well to beat out spurs and man city for that. i just cant see it happening

Now we've got Keith Harris claiming he's lined up a takeover:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=817189&sec=england&cc=3436

Kind of ironic he has a go at the Chinese bid being made public in the press and he himself is out in public now saying someone's all lined up and just needs to make a formal bid.

Everyone's havin' a good larf at us at the moment.

im not giving the rafa "guarantee", but i believe we are good enough,
last season we were bad against the other big teams along with the sh*t ones,
now that we are actualy starting to pass the ball again as opposed to carras hoof i rekon we'll pick up enough points from the lower teams to scrap us through.

As long as the club gets sold soon, 5th place shouldnt be seen as a failure, but only if the club is sold

It is way to early to get all emo about how bad we are. Two of our best players in Cole and Masch not starting (although Masch looks Barca bound). Don't forget the week before we nearly beat Arsenal who will be title contenders.

Plus new owners on the way and a new coach trying to mould a team.  Don't give up yet lads

Ie. we are losing Javier- one of our best players- and we've replaced him with Poulsen. We've got rid of Aquilani, playing one of our best centre-backs at left back, trying 4-4-2 in a suicide game, we nearly beat Arsenal... after a terrible first half in which we barely got a kick on our own turf... Just really don't see anything good at the moment. We play United soon, too...

New owners... We can only hope. So over all this.

Aqua's Juve loan is a done deal with a buyout clause at the end of the season. Fair to say that's the last we'll see of him.

Nemeth also gone to Olympiakos.

Torres, Gerrard, Masch, Maxi and maybe Agger out for Trabz game.

All in all not a bad start to the day really.

Edit: Jova's out too. he's a bit 'tired'.TheKop2010-08-26 08:19:42

Some cheer up time.

This blog post sums it all up for me. John Barnes was my Liverpo0l hero as a kid and the player that showed me the Liverpo0l Way. I don't think we've had a left winger since that came close to John Barnes.

Pretty sloppy first half. Only one shot with Johnson scoring but being offside. Not a lot of imagination either.

The crowd are full on, sounds like their chanting before a battle.

Johnson. He's worked hard tonight, good effort.

The crowd was going insane until that goal.

Reina > Babel > Pacheco > Kuyt > Goal. That was lovely.

Pacheco's made the difference.

Pacheco should start every game in Europe.  He's raw but he gives us something we certainly don't have plus he'll be protected by the referees.  Although it's early for some of these young guys they need the opportunity, I think the EUropa League will be good for them, like a long winded version of the Carling Cup.

ps: I love Pacheco, I think he's the ebst thing since sliced bread

Normo's coming home

This. Been saying it for years. This kid has the potential to be a world-beater. Feel sorry for him sometimes.. Always tries to play a quick, short-passing game and our team can't cope! Brilliant lil player though. Should start vs West Brom in my opinion.

Good result after a terrible first half.. Dani making all the difference. Roll on Monday.
26 Aug 20:31 · edited 09 Sep 05:01
Just popped back in to say I'd been thinking that:

a) Pacheco needs to play more in Europe
b) He needs a start against WBA.

Glad we're all on the same page here

Javier gone, apparently. Barca and us have agreed the fee anyway- which is fk all tbh, and pretty sad.

Bye bye, Monster. Thanks for being so boss. Javier Mascherano  Adios, la.

Did you get Hleb and Caceres in return?
27 Aug 07:40 · edited 09 Sep 05:01
Nope.. Apparently its around the same price as we bought him for. From West Ham reserves to Argentina captain and going to play for Barca and it is still the same price? I don't understand.

That may be your problem...no Rush.

So... now our midfield consists of Lucas, Poulsen and Gerrard.

We had Aqualiani but decided he needed first team football.

We need a proper left back, another striker and now a midfielder or two. All in 4ish days. No worries...

That's ridiculous then. I know he wanted to leave, and your asking for trouble when you keep a player who has his heart set on leaving. But Championship side Liverpool really should have played hardball. Worth at least 20-25m in todays market imo.

I heard Madrid offered Mahamadou Diarra.
