Only for transmitting games in the UK Setanta Irelnad / International still has the rights for Australasia, so you will still get the games for the next three years if you are subscribed to Setanta in Australia the NZ version being abonded due to lack of subscriptions.

Well, you'll see a few Scots perform every time Burnley take the field!

Love em.

I know, I know, its serious!

Sorry, thought Setanta had gone belly up.

I think it was more of a rights issue rather than a lack of subscriptions. Setanta played the 6 Nations rugby which was supposedly exclusive to the Rugby Channel in NZ but if you had Setanta you could watch them.

Draw for the 3rd qualifying round of Champions League just made, Celtic get Dynamo Moscow. Could be an early trip to Europa League for the Bhoys.

Setanta UK has gone bust Setanta International is still in business, I assume they split up the companies for just this sort of debacle. If you read the press reports the Sky/ESPN bid was for the rights to the UK only.

It would have been Setanta UK that held the SPL rights though.

Setanta Australia still has the rights to the SPL in Aus. Unfortunately they no longer do subscriptions to NZ.

A shame, but not surprising. Killer draw.

In other Scottish news, Dundee looking good to win Div 1 this year.

Chances helped a lot by grabbing Harkins off Plastic Whistle... British bookies have got Dundee at 6/5 to win the league. When Jocky Scott is finished with Dundee the Nix should get him as coach. Colvinator2009-08-02 15:37:26

That is a great result for the Shelic! But, it does not get any easier for them ...

Victory sees Celtic progress to the final qualifying round of the Champions League, where they could face Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Lyon, Stuttgart or Fiorentina.

Close, but not quite right.

Seeds: Arsenal, Lyon, Sporting Lisbon, Panathinaikos, Stuttgart.

Non-seeds: Fiorentina, Atletico Madrid, Celtic, Anderlecht, Timisoara.

Cheers for posting the record. I was saying tonight that the English forget the Scots clubs are actually good and do pretty well against them. Am worried about the upcoming game as usual, but excited/hopeful.

I watched that this morning. Hearts can count themselves lucky they didn't concede 10. They were absolutely terrible. But I'm not complaining.

Was interested to hear Robbie Mustoe say this morning that he he could never remember the gulf between top Scottish and English teams be this big. It was no contest really.

Me neither - even up to 2-3 years ago Celtic were beating Man Utd. For some reason, they never looked likely to beat Arsenal tonight, and Arsenal were barely out of first gear.

Still, when the likes of Arsenal are getting about 10 times the TV money, it's easy to see why there's a gulf.

chicken or the egg though. The EPL got the money due to the product it was producing and the demand for it. This was never going to heppen for the SPL.

The gulf in quality was never that big until Sky Sports stepped in and that is an undisputable fact. In fact, when the English clubs were banned from Europe, Rangers were well ahead of English sides - shown by their hammering of Leeds back in 91-92.

There are obviously more football fans in England, hence more people to subscribe and watch it = more money for EPL. Money started pouring in, better players started to be signed, people around the world tuned in to watch said players, and we are where we are today.

The EPL became the current product because of the money, it was not even close to how it is today before Sky Sports came along. There was always going to be demand for football on TV, because the majority of people in the UK like football!

Thing is it is way more than 10 times, the old firm get about 500,000 punds per year for domestic games and then up to about 1.5 for a EUFA cup run and around 3.5 to 7 million for the Champions lLeague dpending on wether both qulify (the money is split) andif they qulify for the next round. On a good year the Old Firm make about 5 million form TV and on and average year around 2-3 million. Arsenal must make 40 million just for domestic competititon and about the same again from a good CL run.
It speaks volumes that for both Celtic and rangers their gate receipts are by far the biggest revenue stream, how many divisions down the English leagues would you have to go for that to be true, possible the conference?
We ara peeple!!!
