I thought Cech was a worry this morning too. Not inspiring confidence at the back at the moment.

Now we are being linked with Ibra. Would have been a good signing 7years ago. But not now. He would just piss everyone off.

Hi all, details are now up on this thread for Arsenal vs LFC being shown live at The Pub on The Terrace here.

Hope to see some of you there.

Transfer window is rapidly approaching and we don't appear any closer to making serious moves. Wenger is being quoted as bemoaning an absence on strikers rather than financial issues. There's talk of Illamaranedi who I'd take in a heart beat, seems quite talented and young, worth a gamble if he's out of favour at Madrid.

Looking at previous signings Wenger signed Sanchez July 10/11, Ozil September 1st, Cazorla August 7th. I'm not sure he'd be leaving it so late if we were genuinely in for someone.

Certain people don't seem to understand that if there was a top striker out there for Arsene to sign, he would do it. Why wouldn't he? He has already shown his willingness to splash the cash on Ozil and Sanchez.

Arsenal fan Mo Farah straight after winning gold at the world athletics championships last night;

""I just want to thank everyone who’s supported me, my family in particular, the public and everyone, keep sending me great messages".

"And also, you know, big game coming up against Liverpool".

I really shouldn't read transfer rumours. If we sign Lars Bender and one of Benzena/Cavani my head will explode!!!

Having said that - it'll probably explode if we don't.

Afternoon all, if you're coming along to The Pub to watch the game tomorrow, we're after food donations for the Wellington City Mission.

At the moment they are after spreads, tinned fish/meat, muesli bars, raisins, instant noodles, cereals and tinned fruit, veges and soup.

Hope to see some Gooners there.

No Koscielny or bfg in the starting line up. Looks like gab and chambers to play in the middle. Very interesting

Jaysus

I really like Gabriel, not unhappy about that, but Chambers means we lose a lot of experience...

Cech gotta earn his paycech today.

Would be happy with Chambers for Debuchy and him or Monreal moving in to CB.

Well cech earned his paycech that's for sure!

After that game I properly feel like we've upgraded at keeper. Those two saves in the first half... phenomenal stuff.

Chambers is still very raw, Gabriel is the goods, but is not an organiser. We missed Mertesacker.

Still, a clean sheet nonetheless.

Ramsey looked onside to me for that goal. Some nice stuff at times but still early season rustiness. Point not to be sniffed at, but we need to pick it up now and start scoring.

Entertaining goalless draw, that's for sure. Didn't do my fantasy team any harm, but we've got to pick up max points from our next two games vs Newcastle and Stoke (neither of which are guaranteed points) before we face Chelsea.

Just got home from the match, it felt like a terrible decision to disallow Ramsey's goal and I've now confirmed that with some replays. Robbed!

Few quick thoughts;

1) If you're overseas for a game find a pub to watch it, so good being amongst other fans!

2) Ramsey's goal was clearly onside, awful officiating

3) We got lucky a few moments, but it was mostly covering defence/great saves excluding two post hits.

4) The stats showed we were all over them, felt we deserved the win

5) Does Liverpool have the receipt for Benteke? Or any of their 1/4 of a billion in spending? Wenger get's a lot of stick but Rodgers should be being slaughtered for taking the opposite approach.

Er...yeah...ok. One eyed much?

Ramsey was onside but arguing about calls going for/against is a waste of energy. Coutinho could just of easily had a penalty at the other end but that's football.

Both keepers were magnificent, both defences need work.

Stats...pfft...Liverpool dominated 80% of the first half, Arsenal the same in the second half. 64% possession does not equate to being all over us. Arsenal work the ball more while Liverpool tend to be more direct - different styles of play - possession does not tell the full story.

  • Arsenal 19 shots (5 on target) Liverpool 15 shots (8 on target)
  • 7 corners to 8
  • ...and for all of the 'blame the officials' Arsenal fouls 2 - Liverpool 13. The amount of AFC players that fell over when the skinny 18 YO left back touched them was hilarious.
  • Benteke is 3 games into his LFC career, has a goal already and would have had another one but for a great save from Cech. That comment is ridiculous. Suarez was average his first season and we then got a lot out of him plus an eventual fee worth more than 40m+1. Benteke hled the ball up well and is part of a front three that are effectively brand new in terms of playing together.
  • Rodgers actually has had little say in signings until this season as all signing were done by committee which was scrapped after last seasons debacle.

Also, for any of you who turned up at The Pub - thanks for stopping by. A great turn out and thanks for the food donations to Wellington City Mission.

Not sure where you got that from?

I freely admitted that both teams enjoyed moments of superiority and of defensive wobbles.

Please show above where I mentioned any LFC player or staff member in glowing terms other than the keeper?

One eyed would be me saying "Liverpool should have won, they were dominant and the ref screwed us" - pretty much what Brumby's said. Pull your head out of your ARSENAL. Is it so hard to admit that another team were your equal on the day?

Also, if you could point out the particular points you considered 'garbage'? My discussion points were in response to Brumby's email who believes that:

- Arsenal are the bestest, unluckiest team ever

- Rodgers is the worstest manager ever, especially compared to our beloved Wenger (or is it his cousin with the double barreled name Wenger-Out)

- Benteke is the worstest player at the moment as he didn't score on this particular day.

Know when to support your team but also know when to give praise and/or concessions to the opposition as I did. Idiot.

Leighbo,

You might have dominated the first half but when was our first half goal scored? Over the course of the game we won the possession game, the shots game, the foul count, and were only just behind on corners. Pretty concrete.

Our players 'fell over' because your lot were literally pushing them over.

Benteke might be 3 games in but he's an established EPL scorer, he should be putting those away.

RE Rodgers & the signings I wasn't aware of this. Explains a lot. So my point now becomes Arsenal get a lot of stick but Liverpool's track record for spending & subsequent return is horrendous over the past 5 years.

Finally expect this to be fairly Arsenal orientated, this is the Arsenal thread after all ;-)

PS great work for the city mission mate.

What first half goal? You got unlucky, sure, but you didn't cash in on some very early dominance just as we failed to later on. Shots vs Shots on target? I know where I'd rather be winning that count. City Mission stuff was good, probably 5 or 6 carrier bags stuffed with food. Probably 50 - 60 person turn out for 7am on a weekday is decent as well.

Awesome work Leighbo and all those who donated this morning.

Liverpool could have and should have scored a few times, just like Arsenal should have. Had Ramsey scored, the game from that moment on would have been much different and we have no idea what way it would have gone.

Good on Cech for some great saves and unlucky to Coutinho for twice hitting the post.
