Kind of softens the blow somewhat when you've prepared yourself for it I guess.

Arsenal have now conceded 3 or more goals in 4 away games in a row for the first time since 1929.

Someone said this is the worst run of form they can remember. It's not just the worst run any of us have seen anymore, it's approaching the worst period the club has ever seen.

Ok I've seen this stat bandied about, but what am I missing here?

Our last 4 away games in all comps have not seen us concede 3 goals, so it's not correct for starters.

Our last 4 premier league away games have, but that goes all the way back to Feb 5 against Chelsea, there have been 12 games in that time, and other away games too.

We suck, we're playing badly, we all get that, everyone agrees. But someone like Carragher saying flat out "Arsenal have conceded 3 goals in each of their last 4 games" is mental when it's just blatantly untrue.

Right now you can also say that Arsenal have scored 10 goals in their last 3 home games and kept 2 clean sheets. That sounds nice, but we've still sucked.

Yeah, that should say last 4 league games, sorry for the blind copy and paste. Still, in that time there have only been 2 other away games. One was at Bayern and the other at a non-league side, so not sure they would make that stat sound a lot better

The stat doesn't change though. We kept a clean sheet in the 5th to last away game.

I just think it's a pointless stat.

We suck, not just in away games, and we need significant changes in the club now.

I started supporting Arsenal in 1978 so up until the title in 1989, I had to be happy with one FA Cup and One League Cup (followed by defeat to Luton the following year) Also included two FA Cup and a Cup Winners Cup defeat. It wasn't a nice period.

I hope we have a bit more dignity (unlike Leicester) and let Wenger see out the season although a part of me wishes someone could come in like Di Matteo did at Chelsea and at least pick the club up and help us win the FA Cup but this late in the season, that's not going to happen.

Has anyone watched the Arsenal Fan TV interviews? So embarrassing.

Probably should have said "run of form" rather than "period," but still in those 11 years you got 2 trophies, another 3 domestic cup finals and a European final. Comparing that to the last 11 years for argument's sake doesn't make it that terrible. Without going through each season in detail I doubt you were humiliated as regularly either. Pretty difficult to compare different eras in any case but it's never simply been about the number of titles anyway.

Saw another comment that the last time the club captain started a game was Arteta vs United in November 2014. I haven't verified it so I'm only the messenger but does seem like a long time since we had a captain who was part of the playing side. Always happy to hand out constant contract extensions to players who are done physically and wouldn't get one anywhere else, but we're once again on the verge of losing our stars.

Guess that's because it doesn't really feel like there's anything left to say. Not Arsenal, but enjoyed this from Miles Davis on Facebook:

Chelsea - their manager is Conte their star midfielder is Kante which are translations of the English word that best describes a Chelsea fan

plenty of games to go in the season. Still holding out to finish 4th and an FA Cup final. As much as we're playing sh*t I know football to be both a cruel mistress, and the best all at once. Locking myself in for the final few weeks of this roller coaster with a smile on my face! C'mon Arsenal!!

Just looking into the possible scenarios and I believe if we finish 7th and don't win the FA Cup then we go into the Europa League 3rd qualifying round (FA Cup winner would go straight into the group stage) which will take place in July. What this would mean for the Sydney tour some of us are spending a stupid amount of money on I don't know! Probably a situation the club hadn't anticipated when scheduling it but I assume they can't just easily pull out of it due to whatever contract is in place so may just end up sending some sort of youth team without a single first team squad player.

Wilshere with a broken leg.

Sigh.

Honestly no idea what is going to happen to him and Oxlade-Chamberlain this off-season. Could both be gone, could both stay.

Sounds like we're nailed on for this new left back. Sead Kolasinac. Coming on a free, probably signing a four year deal. Looks a ready-made starter. Rumours suggest Monreal will be let go and that we'll attempt to keep Gibbs on.

I know Monreal hasn't been at his best but not many of our players have been. Is it about finally giving Gibbs an extended run and competition from a younger body? Because it seems a little backwards to do this at the expense of essentially our first choice left back for nearly 3 seasons.

Not really sure what's going on but it seems we've had plans at left back for a while now - we nearly got Sidibe last off-season, we've been constantly linked with Rodriguez and Gaya, we seem hell bent on bringing one in. I'm not sure why to be honest, but Wenger clearly has ideas for that position.

Maybe because he's committed to 3-5-2 and needs a wing-back!

Unfortunately we can't sell Wilshere this summer now with a broken leg, so it's going to be yet another wasted season in the treatment room, taking up wages and a place in the squad and "like a new signing" etc when he makes his return off the bench in March.

I'd be very surprised if Wenger went with that formation again this weekend, let alone made a permanent switch.

Yeah he's tried it once in 20 years, probably so he can say to the protestors "see, I can change and adapt." I'd hesitate to say he's "committed to it" at this stage.

Yea I'm sure Wenger is paying a lot of attention to people protesting and basing his footballing decisions on how they might react. Sounds like him.

I know, just trying to bring some tongue and cheek humour to a bleak thread!

I'm going to be in Fiji on holibobs for the FA Cup Semi - I'm highly doubtful the WiFi will be good enough for illegal streaming, but I'll be chancing the arm! Anyone tried streaming football from the islands?

Arsene Wenger revealed Arsenal are planning Jack Wilshere contract talks, insisting his latest injury will not affect negotiations.

Permalink Permalink

Wilshere is Arsenal through and through, and is one of our few homegrown players who appears to have that bite to him that we so often complain of not having.

Opening myself up for criticism with this opinion no doubt, but I for one would like to see him re-signed.

The bonus here is that the injury means outside interest should all but disappear, we can sign him on the same or reduced wages, and a hairline fracture really isn't a big deal when it comes down to it.

Obviously the key disclaimer here is that I would assume we would not go into next season expecting him to play any kind of role at all. I'd like to see him rehabilitate through the off-season, and then perhaps go on loan until Jan, before coming back into the squad to battle for a spot.

I don't think he's anywhere near Diaby stage, and I'd love us to give him all possible chances to make it here.

Sounds like Kolasinac has signed. Other big clubs were interested, one of them being Chelsea which is interesting, as they play a 3-4-3.

Speaking of, Wenger hinting that we may in fact stick with a back 3 this weekend!

Surprising, but interesting. Only thing is that Mustafi is still out.

One thing I've been thinking is that Per Mertesacker would actually be ideally suited to the central role in a back 3, moreso than Koscielny.

Kosc and Mustafi either side of Mertesacker would be a good dynamic I feel. Kosc and Mustafi are hunters, they love to win the ball on the front foot, Mertesacker would be the perfect foil to stay deep and organise - bringing Monreal in when necessary etc.

Has anyone else had a look at our run in and the space between games? This is not going to be easy. 4 games in 9 days between 8th of May and 17th of May.

Permalink Permalink

That is absolutely mental.

There's no way we'll come close to winning all those games, even putting our bad form aside.
