Because the lad keeps on picking up injuries. He's hardly ever at 100% physically, and that makes it hard for him to string good performances together.

At the risk of being lynched, I tend to think that Shola is actually a better forward [than Andy Carroll], though he's not a real goal-scorer.
Looking at this season's EPL statistics:
Carroll has played 1045 minutes, for 2 goals and 0 assists.
Ameobi has played 633 minutes, for 1 goal and 2 assists.
Both players have had injury issues. It's possible to understand Shola's better performance as better player management at St. James' Park. But at the moment, the statistics back me up, and I am gloating. Did I mention, "ka-ching!"?
