Wow - Pretty impressive performance. Having Lennon back makes such a difference, and Nico at 2.5m is the buy of the season, classy performance from him too.

Great weekend, Nix win, Woolwich Wanderers lose, Spurs play sublimely and win, i got a few with the bat on the weekend - all good...

Following on from Henry's handball in the WC Qualifier, make sure you have a look at Wigan's goal from this morning, god knows how the ref and his assistants missed it. It is as blatant, if not more as Henry's - shocker.

Bring in the video refs!

Seen this from the Mirror...?

Cheeky Arsenal fans have launched an audacious bid to get the Government to stop North London rivals Tottenham building a 56,000 super-stadium next to White Hart Lane.

They have launched a petition claiming the new ground will be a burden on match days to the local environment.

Bloody Gooners...at least we're from the area we're bulding a new stadium, not like the Red and White Nomads, or 'Woolwich Wanderers' as they have been dubbed...

I don't think they need any encouraging Junior, it's never going to stop...

They clearly have many more fans in NZ they we do, and thus need their own thread, so it stands to reason some of them will like to post on other sites. That's actually the first post i have posted on their thread, and pretty harmless...

To quote the 12th Man..... "That f**ked his average up Tony!!"
Poor Wigan. Breathe Harry, just sit down and breathe. Yes it was the perfect weekend for you!

From soccernet.com.....

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe scored five times to send his side back into the Champions League places as Harry Redknapp's men threatened to rack up double figures against Wigan at White Hart Lane.

 Redknapp hails Lennon
Harris: Spurs return to the glory game
 Kevin Palmer on Defoe

Paul Scharner appeared to handle when he grabbed Wigan's goal but there was no handball controversy as Defoe was in such rampant form, with Aaron Lennon, Peter Crouch, David Bentley and Niko Kranjcar grabbing the other goals.

The clash was played on a Sunday following an agreement between the clubs so players could rest after the international break - and Defoe seemed the freshest of the players on display by grabbing his goals in the second half.

It takes his tally to 15 for Spurs and England this season and it means his club have scored more than five goals in five matches during the current campaign.

They were his first goals too since his needless dismissal against Portsmouth last month, which Spurs boss Redknapp criticised him for.

Redknapp will also be encouraged by his team looking more balanced following the return of England winger Lennon after missing three matches with an ankle injury.

Croatia midfielder Kranjcar was on the other flank, meaning Redknapp ditched his recent diamond formation and started with Robbie Keane on the bench following his World Cup efforts with Republic of Ireland last week.

Keane returned from international duty drained earlier in the season and after Thierry Henry's infamous handball for France earlier this week, Redknapp had been debating whether his skipper was mentally and physically ready to start.

Instead, he went with Crouch and Defoe in attack and it did not take long for them to get in their stride.

Wilson Palacios, making his first appearance against Wigan since leaving the club in January, started the move for the ninth-minute opener by feeding Lennon on the right, with the England winger sending over a gorgeous cross between goalkeeper Chris Kirkland and centre-back Titus Bramble. Crouch was at the back post to head home.

Lennon almost added a second immediately after creating the opener, forcing Kirkland to save his volley on the rebound after Emmerson Boyce cleared off the line to deny Defoe.

Kirkland also saved from Palacios at full stretch after a 25-yard drive, while Wigan's response was a volley from Mohamed Diame that flew wide.

Wigan had not won in London since 2006 when they defeated West Ham - and the threat Spurs posed meant it appeared unlikely they would break that run. Tom Huddlestone was the next to go close, with a drive that shaved Kirkland's post.

The visitors, however, kept looking for the counter-attack and Jason Scotland forced Heurelho Gomes to save at his near post after former Spurs full-back Erik Edman fed him the ball on the edge of the area. Charles N'Zogbia also went just over with a curling effort and got closer with a free-kick.

Defoe struck the bar before the break, then burst into a scoring frenzy after the restart.

The first came from another Lennon cross, with Defoe getting in front of Bramble and crashing his finish into the roof of the net. His second strike came after Palacios' ball forward was totally missed by Boyce, with Defoe keeping his cool to finish slot his finish into the far post.

Then came Scharner's moment of controversy. Hugo Rodallega crossed the ball from the left and the Austrian midfielder clearly used his hand to control before lashing past Gomes and into the roof of the net.

The Spurs bench were furious with referee Peter Walton for letting the goal stand - but Defoe restored the three-goal cushion with his hat-trick straight away.

Lennon crossed again and this time Defoe volleyed home at the near post, meaning he wrapped up his treble in just seven minutes - still short of Robbie Fowler's record when the Liverpool favourite struck in under five.

Lennon added the fifth himself after Crouch smuggled the ball out to his team-mate from a congested penalty area, with the winger angling his finish into the far post.

Defoe, in full flow now and demanding the ball, grabbed his fourth 21 minutes from the end by latching on to Vedran Corluka's ball and firing home off the post.

His fifth came after a mistake by Edman, with Defoe finishing through Kirkland's legs. Bentley's free-kick accounted for the eighth goal, his effort going in off the bar. Kranjcar's goal, the ninth, also went in off the woodwork.

?  Redknapp hails Lennon

Harry Redknapp hailed the performance of Aaron Lennon after Tottenham thrashed Wigan 9-1 at White Hart Lane. Jermain Defoe scored five times in an incredible second half but Redknapp was keen to praise the contribution of England midfielder Lennon.

''I thought we started really bright, we had 25 minutes where we really got off after them in the first half before they came back into it,'' Redknapp told Sky Sports News. ''We came in at half-time and said we had to get back to how we started, pressing them all over the park, and we decided to work them and made the opportunities and took them.

''Their keeper (Chris Kirkland) made some great saves as well. Lennon is a fantastic talent, anybody would have had a hard day with him in that sort of form. He deserved that goal at the end.''

Speaking about Defoe, Redknapp added: ''For Jermain to get five goals was an outstanding performance. Yesterday in training he looked so sharp and I felt if he could carry that into the game he would be a real handful. You don't get too many nines in the Premier League, it's a bad day for Roberto Martinez but he'll come back even stronger and I'm sure next week he'll take it out on someone else.''

Wigan boss Martinez said: ''We finished the first half very strongly and looked like a team who were going to dictate things. But we have ourselves to blame for the goals we conceded and after that you are climbing a mountain.''

The Latics' next match is next Saturday, when Sunderland are the visitors to the DW Stadium. ''We have to make sure we move on from this,'' Martinez added

Gentlemen, your concern is welcomed. Far from going on a 'Jug for each goal' bender I have adopted a newish regime for 2009/10 season akin to a 'loose lips cost lives' policy. Quite amazingly it has been pretty effective, so I'm not going to get carried away too much. As soon as I make some rash statement about what THFC are going to achieve it all comes tumbling down (the capitulation as our Gooner friend puts it).

So, dazed and bemused I head off looking forward to a point away at Villa Park.

Have to admit though, the last 10 dys of football has been bonkers.

The Wigan players beaten 9-1 by Tottenham said today they would refund the cost of match tickets for their fans.

Wigan conceded a Premier League record-equaling number of goals at White Hart Lane yesterday, with Jermain Defoe scoring five of Tottenham's eight in the second half.

"We feel that as a group of players we badly let down our supporters yesterday, and this is a gesture we have to make and pay them back for their tremendous loyalty," Wigan defender Mario Melchiot said.

"As a group of professionals, we were embarrassed by the way we performed. We feel it was below our standards and this is something we feel we owe to the fans."

Yet the goals were actually quite good, other than bad marking, it was more of a case of great shooting. The goaly didn't make any obvious mistakes and cut the angles right down. Just one of those days like ours against GCU.

A well earned 1-1- draw and unlucky not to get a win. Watched patchy parts of the second half (iraqgoals very erratic) and it certainly looked like we were making all the play.

Oh well a point is better than none.

Good report from the Guardian, we bossed Villa today and comfortably outplayed them but the bloody ball wouldn't go in the net.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/nov/28/premier-league-aston-villa-tottenham

Although i guess i would have taken a point away at Villa Park beforehand, but after watching the game i'm disappointed we couldn't have grabbed another couple of points.

Jeez - i get more and more impressed with Kranjcar each week, he was really impressive again, one of the best buys of the season at 2.5m quid.

The bits I saw, Dawson was having a great game too. But yes Krancjar was playing well, while Lennon seemed a bit quiet.

Saw James Judas (re Toon) Milner try to hold up Crouch as if it was a maul. Tw@t.

Yeah it looked like Friedel saved their bacon quite a few times. Villa looked sharp on the breakaways but Spurs defence with Dawson doing a Nelsen always managed to close them down or make some crucial intercepts.

Pity the iraqgoals was so bitsy - it almost made me think about getting Sky (shudder!)

I had the dodgy iraqgoals feed as well - I thought that was responsible for the players zipping around passes and moving at pace, but then I remembered it's because I'm more used to seeing the Nix play!

I thought Krancjar bossed midfield - real shame we couldn't get the 3 points as a bit of breathing space would have been good. HarryHotspur2009-12-01 14:13:05

I wonder who will make way for Modric when he returns?

Nico or Modric to play alongside Wilson, and leave out Tom or JJ?

Not having the benefit of seeing many of the games this season my inclination would be to drop JJ to the bench.

Nico on the left, Aaron on the right, Wilson/Tom defensive midfield, Luka attacking centre .

Hard call - but would prefer Wilson over Tom so maybe he drops to the bench.Junior822009-12-01 19:30:23

I'd have to have Nico in central mid, seen him play there at the lane twice now and he's bloody energetic, strong, tall and fast He's like Tom Hud, but pacey silky too..

Lenon on the right of course. Modric has played OK on the left, and he likes to come inside. Now that Lenon's cropssing is finally up to the level of his other skills I see Modric's left sided play as a good compliment.

The other midfield spot I'd probably rotate WP, TH and JJ, in that order of priority.

Up front - Defoe and Crouch to start with Keane on bench to sub on for either, or Nico if they get injured/ are playing crap.

although I think we'll lose Paly this winter, and need to replace him with a new top class striker to partner Defoe.
