HH, i think Assou Ekotto (?) is a class act, dont think he'd look out of place in any of the big big european sides
almost 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

Yeah agreed he is good at left back. I wouldn't say he is world class, but he is very solid indeed. He's no ashley cole or clichy.

I still get shudders when he dives in, inside the box, and think a big man out wide could exploit him.
almost 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
He was just keeping the trend of us giving penalties to Man U. Not to worry.

O'Hara back from Popmey soon.

Any space for him?

need a bit more quality at full back (both sides), another high quality midfielder (Gerrard will do), would like another striker (that guy Berbatov at MU is looking for more game time), but i wouldnt go crazy bc we are only a wee bit behind the best sides in England and they are as good as anybody in Europe (save Barca and maybe Real).

I think Ohara is great, but given that Wilson struggles to get on the park at times (depending on opposition) I'm not sure there is space (in the first XI).HarryHotspur2010-05-06 15:40:22

agreed.

Bring back Stefan Freund

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I just needed to get that out of the system after 15 years of being torutured by the thought of the man

Not as a starter, since we got corluka and bae, and with kaboul in sweet, sweet form. And O'hara doesn't seem to like the bench.

I cringed when harry bought him back, kaboul was so bad but now he is excellent!

btw - im thoroughly enjoying my spurs fanship reactivation today. brilliant. loved the game this morning. was swearing at defoe, cursing the Man City keeper and went berzerk when crouchy scored. went for a run at lunch proudly wearing my 07 (Thomson is that 07?) top as well.
almost 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
@nb Athletically I always felt Kaboul had it, it was his decision making that gave me the heebees. That seems to be changing.

@ML I think every club can identify one individual who represents their current form. They were indeed dark days of mediocrity when the Freund played.

'Arry is a real godsend.

He has brought in some of his pompey chums, and got a the odd bargain (Niko) but by and large has worked with what he has inherited and got them to perform when needed.

That's the mark of a good gaffer.

I wore my 08 top yesterday in anticipation, and threw it on again this morning...and then off again when i realised how powerful the smell of Curry can be

One of the first managers in ages who really has the idea of what a balanced side can do (although what Jol would have done will always remain a heart rendering mystery)

I've got a real soft spot for Barry Daines and Milja Aleksic - goalies post Pat Jennings era.

Spurs always struggled even when they went back up to Div 1 until Ray Clemence came along.

But Daines and Mr Elastic were good team players if not particularly inspiring

Harry has done an amazing job in bringing out the skills of everyone, as well as changing their attitudes.

To think we have pav, bentley and huddlestone whinging about being on the bench, he has now sorted them out and turned them into good footballers who don't complain. And also for bringing out the best in bale and dawson, and also managing the King situation very well.

He seems to have created a culture of that if you train hard with a good attitude, he will reward you, rather than conceding to megalomania.

Next season, I hope he keeps the squad relatively unchanged, as there is a clear sense of brotherhood in this squad, and it is this which has contributed to our success.

I think i might purchase that t-shirt "2 points. 8 games. 1 hero"

Well let's face it, if one thing history has taught us is that THFC tend to roll on their back and asked to be tickled at the first sign of danger!

But you are quite right, it does feel good to prove 'em wrong

ahhh! watched the game in a pub in Beirut. only one other yid in the room.... but it was worth it!

What a result. I nearly died from nerves, thought spurs were going to do a .. tottenham and choke. But, it's over now. Looking forward to the no-pressure game against burnley this weekend. Should be a right old party!

On the bus back home today with my Spurs scarf draped around me, got chatting to a Chelski fan and he pointed out a Pyul fan across the aisle.

He congratulated us on the win so I wished him well for the title, even tho' I don't really want them to win the double.

Footy is a wonderful sport.

Just wondering and not sure if this has been posted before elsewhere, but has there been any team in the EPL this season that has beaten all of the big 4 (ManU, @rse, Chelski, Pyul) either at home or away?

ManU spoiled it for us and our away matches at the other three were pretty woeful (and yet we do the business at Eastlands).

Three for me, and two for them.

almost 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Hopefully we get 3rd place and then we are straight into the group stages and don't have to worry about the qualifiers.

As it is, If Benfica takes care of business in the Portugal league this Saturday, Spurs will be seeded in the 4th round draw, avoiding teams like Lyon, Werder Bremen, and Sevilla.

Of course we could just go take 3rd and not have to worry about it.
almost 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
I am pretty certain there is no seedings in the draw, so you could get anyone.  I am hoping that Real Madrid are docked 20 points for some jumped up reason and kick your asses in the qualifying.

Actually, it will be funnier if you get knocked out of the qualifying by some club no one has ever heard of from Lithuania.

It will be interesting to see how Tottenham cope seeing as they have only done well in the league by effectively throwing their European matches.  If they do get through to the group stages will they be able to fight on two fronts?

Normo's coming home

Does that mean we get a bonus? Or is that only if we make it to the group stages?

In previous years I'd totally agree with you, but I think the last 18months has seen us grow considerably in terms of depth at the club.

I really should shut up. I deliberately avoided making bold statements this year, and look what happened for once...
almost 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Good point. But we got more squad depth now.

Current squad:

GK - Gomes, Cudicini, Alnwick
CB - King, Woodgate, Dawson, Bassong, Dervite?
SB - BAE, Corluka, Kaboul, Bale
SMF - Lennon, Kranjcar, Bentley
CMF - Palacios, Hudd, Moddle, Jenas
CF - Defoe, Pav, Crouch

Got keane, hutton, o'hara, taraabt, and giovani on loan. Plus we got the younguns like dervite, walker, danny rose, bostock.

I reckon we need 3 more decent players to keep that depth. Centre back, side back. striker.

Really hope we can fork out for a world class striker. I wonder if a one year deal for an old geezer like van nistelrooy, toni, klose will be done?

'sOK HH - got you covered.

We will really struggle in Europe and go out in the first round.

You're pretty safe as seeds for now - although there is one scenario I'm not sure about.

If Sevilla stay 4th in Spain, and Lyon 3rd in France, you and Ajax have the same coefficient points for the last seeded spot. Now 6 can't go into 5 seeded spots, so don't know what would happen in that case. Could either be a random draw, or UEFA may separate the national and club coefficients of the two clubs and award the seed on the basis of one of those.
