This will give you the A-League in the demo.

However, it will give the A-League ONLY. No other leagues.

So, once again the Phoenix (and most of the A-League) research is pretty darn half baked.

It's better than in the past, don't get me wrong, but still a long way from accurate.

Of course, it's all extremely subjective, but here's some which to me should be obvious:

Mark Paston - Tendency to Punch is only 11, should be practically 20. Also, his reflexes should be lower, and one on ones higher.

Manny Muscat - should be better all-round, especially mental skills, also strength. Also, he's not left footed is he? :/ Should also be better skilled as DM/CM

Vinny Lia - aggression only 6 - also "Accomplished" right winger - this is a hangover from the first FM he was included in years ago when he was solely a right winger. I don't remember him ever playing AMR with the Nix, and couldn't really imagine him playing there. He could also have PPM "Plays long passes" or whatever it is.

Lochhead - I'd be loath to call him an "Accomplished" CB. Also, Influence = 15. I'd hardly call him the highest influence player in the team.

Durante - I don't think he's quite as versatile positionally as FM would have you believe. He's really a stock standard CB.

Daniel - crossing could be bit higher (9). Long shots lower (11).

Troy Hearfield - crossing = 12. LOLz. He is NOT a better crosser than Daniel.

Tim Brown - has PPM "Does NOT dive into tackles". Ugh?

... This is just a start. Maybe I'm just being too picky, but I've been playing FM for 20 years and if I'm playing as my favourite team, I want it to be fairly accurate, or the immersion is ruined.

If the researcher(s) could be bothered, then this forum would probably be the perfect avenue for getting the squad as accurate as possible, to make playing as the Phoenix as fun as possible.

With the new xml editing abilities, is there any way of having an "add on" updated Phoenix squad, that people could download and use in their games, regardless of the database they are using?

I've gone for the safe option and pre-ordered the boxed disc. Might arrive a few days later but my computer and internet capacity will get torn to shreds if I try downloading it.

I'm not doing too well with the 'Nix in the opening friendlies. I cancelled a few of the nothing games and organised some matches vs. A-League clubs. Ifill has been injured and is out for 2 months... Lost to Perth 2-0 and drew with Sydney 2-2 after I scored 2 late goals.

I've also managed to piss off Durante with my team talks and now he wants to leave the club.

Really struggling to find a good formation too.

Does it? really beats paying $51 for it from Steam, preloading it so that as soon as I woke up this morning game was ready to play, patched and all?

Didn't mean anything personal buddy - just pointing out that the Steam option, especially with the current exchange rate, and the bizarre fact that the game is US$39.99 for Kiwis, but apparently double that price for aussies - mean that utilizing Steam is a fantastic option for many people :)

Finally played my first league game of the season, and it's one of my most satisfying results in 20 years of playing FM/CM!

I'm managing WBA in the Premiership - purely because, as a big gunners fan, I was blown away by the surprisingly brilliant football they played to beat Arsenal earlier this season.

WBA have actually got a very solid squad, with some quite talented players - G Dorran looks the biz. Amazingly, in possibly a first when taking over a new club, I haven't actually found the need to sign any players (other than 2 youngsters who are very much for the distant future); quite surprising, considering our pre-season media prediction was to finish 19, ahead of only lowly Blackpool! I was thinking we could push for mid-table safety.

First competitive game was an incredibly scary matchup against a supremely strong Chelsea team - remember, in the identical fixture IRL Chelsea demolished them 6-0! So I stood no hope from everyone beforehand, even Ancelotti "sympathised with me" before the match. A couple of my better players were injured for the game as well.

Backup left winger Jerome Thomas deservedly open the scoring after half an hour, to my delight. Of course, Chelsea then really ramped it up, and got two almost identical goals, with Drogba out-muscling me down my right before drilling a low cross to Anelka - 2-1 after 60 minutes.

However, we had continued to look impressive, had out-shot and out-possessed Chelsea, and were looking motivated. On 75 minutes, after some more brilliant work by Jerome Thomas down the left, Alex scored an own goal - back on level terms!

I didn't want to do the sensible thing and settle for a draw to the champions though - so continued to press, and substitute striker Ishmael Miller scored a dramatic winner with 10 minutes still to go.

We bravely withstood strong attacks by Chelsea, but at the end of the day thoroughly deserved out 3-2 victory!

Loving it

Brought back to earth with the heaviest of thumpings in my 2nd game, at Old Trafford - 6-0 in the Wayne Rooney show, 4 goals and an assist gave him a 9.9 rating

Think I need to amend my tactics a bit away from home, especially against strong teams.

I have been doing a bit of editing (for the first time) making the ASB Premiership playable.
However I can't for the life find out anything about the prize money is structured..
If anyone out there knows and help would be much appreciated :)

Edit:
So after going through some news archives concerning previous title winners - Ive found reference that there has in fact been NO prize money on offer for the NZFC.
Does anyone know if this has changed at all after ASB's new sponsorship?

I am 3rd place in the A-League ('Nix) with 2 games in hand with the second place Brisbane. 5 games left and Sydney have all but got the minor premiers.

I'm coming off 2 losses in a row so I'm hoping that this is just a form slump and it will pick up again when the finals series comes around.

Can't wait to play finals football with the 'Nix again.

Player with the highest wage.

I still haven't played A League in FM11, I've stuck to the English Leagues. Is the A League as bad as many people seem to make out?

Its not that bad I enjoy playing it. Would be A LOT better if A league teams had a reserves squad

Yeah I thought it was the players with the highest wage but my two marquee players are Daniel and Ifill which doesn't make sense... unless the Phoenix get a NZ marquee player instead of the australian marquee player like the other teams do anth1832010-12-31 17:37:08

Definitely thought I was out of it after Durante's own goal.

But took a defender off and threw another attacking midfielder in (already playing 4-2-4) so that turned into 4-2-5.

Brisbane just couldn't handle it. It was like watching the Nix last night.

Then after the equaliser I was happy with that so dropped it back to the old formation and still managed to score.

Ok, so I've been playing as much FM2011 as I can the last week or so. As I mentioned earlier regarding FM2010, I struggle enough just to find the time needed to commit to playing the game, and even then I'm a fairly slow player of the game, methodically tinkering with tactics, transfers, etc etc. So seasons of ~50 games (ie Premiership) are just untenable, as it would take me months just to play a season.

Thanks to the brilliant Competitions Editor now included with the game, I've come up with the perfect solution. Please note, I currently prefer playing English Leagues, as unfortunately the A-League is still pretty poorly researched and put together in the game.  Instead of having two full league rounds, I've created the English leagues to comprise of just one complete round (ie, Premiership season consists of just 19 games, instead of 38).

I've also modified the League Cup - Premiership teams aren't eligible for it, only Champ/Lg1/Lg2, which makes it interesting and a chance for those teams to win a Cup. FA is virtually intact, with big prize money.

I find this perfect for me, able to get through a season quickly, still playing every team, but only once, so not dragging on.

I'm playing a season as Sunderland, and loving it. Made a few signings, but have some decent players to work with (Strike combination of Bent & Gyan is deadly with a direct counter attacking tactic). Interesting formation that is starting to click - 2-3-2-1-2 (2CBs, WBs and DM, 2CM, AM & 2FW).

Couple of games to go in season, 7th in League, with some brilliant victories (Europa League side Chelsea, Man U, Man City). Unbeaten at home so far, want to keep that intact - only won 2 away though. Just destroyed a strong Spurs lineup in FA Cup semi, meaning I'm up against Arse in the Final at Wembley!

In short, this Competition Editor has really reignited my passion for the game! Loving it :)

PS, I did a fairly comprehensive update of the Phoenix squad, with

* accurate (IMHO) attribute & position changes (ie Durante no longer a left wingback, Manny's versatility added, etc)

* PPMs (the preferred player moves that make players unique, ie Greenacre "Like to beat Offside Trap", Tim Brown "Arrives late in opposition area", Ifill "Knocks ball past opponent", etc etc).

Now, as it's just an XML file (and only a couple of kilobytes), I *think* that anybody can use it by loading it into their game if desired.

I didn't go so far as to get things like contracts and playing histories accurate, I just hated playing as the Phoenix and finding basic things like players positions, abilities, etc all so horribly wrong (often completely randomly generated).

Whilst I haven't actually had a proper game playing as this Phoenix squad, they've just finished the first A League season in my Sunderland game - just scraped into the playoffs, but ended up beating Adelaide in the Grand Final, a thrilling 3-2 win with 10 men! Hopefully a precursor of what's really to come ;)
