I'd say give it a shot at least. I've played as a fullback, CAM and striker and though fatigue is an issue in midfield I think CAM is the most interesting because you can be involved in all aspects of the game.  There is something quite satisfying about setting up an AI striker with goals and facilitating that switch from defense to attack.

Not for everyone I guess, but I certainly prefer it.

After mucking around with the Player/CPU custom settings I think I've found a good formula. Its playable on World Class, a good representation of mistakes in real games and goal keeper ability adjusted so that lvl 60 GK's actually suck and 80+ are awesome etc.

Been continuing my manager mode season with the Phoenix, as usual I've stuck with my sign free agents strategy and splashed out on a couple of specialists i.e. LB with 90+ accel and 60+ stand tackle, a midfielder with 70+ vision and 65+ short passing and a striker with 75+ ball control and finishing.

Seem to be getting more scoring matches where as before with the old settings I'd get way too many 0-0's.

Now if I take my chances can score 1-3 a game, if i defend crap I definately get punished with a goal or two.Crockett2011-11-10 17:23:07

Something weird i noticed.
I started a career mode as Wigan Athletic playing on world class difficulty. First season the board expected me to finish mid table. I thought it would be to avoid relegation but all good. So after a pretty average start i got the hang of it and actually got pretty good. Beat Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United all 2-0 in consecutive matches and ended up finishing 7th. I was pretty stoked with 7th and thought if i played as good as i did in the second half of the season next season i could well finish in a European spot.

Second season the board expected me to avoid relegation, pretty odd i thought given my performances last season but oh well, i figured i would do that easy and was aiming for European football. But as the games started it was like i was playing a whole different game, was incredibally diffecult and completely different. Have lost all my games convincingly so far.

Anyway, the point is that this got me thinking that the board expecation seemed to affect how diffecult it was. Bit of a conspiracy theory i know but was jsut wondering if anyone else who has played multiple seasons has noticed this or anything else weird?

not exactly like that, but I have noticed the game seems to get much easier/harder at times with no real explanation, and its not like its FM where there is a heap else going on that can have an effect on performances.
I was told to finish mid table one year and ended up winning the league by 20 points without bringing in any new players, and other years i cant buy a goal even though my team easily better than the majority in the league.
who knows

yea its basically the getting extremely harder/easier for no apparent reason that i find confusing. its pretty annoying going from an 8 game winning streak to not winning in the next 8 games.

Is there a way to get the New Zealand internationals without clubs in to club teams?

I think it was mentioned earlier or in another thread.

I think what you do is transfer them from the national side to the free agents before you start a career mode, then you can sign them straight away.

You replace them with someone who is of the same nationality but isn't in the first 11 or reserves, and than they move to the free agents.

In division 6 on online seasons. had a close shave with relagation last season. needed 4 points from last two games, Won them both. But since I got to div 6 I managed to find someone playing with a team the same star rating as the nix. So I played two games with the nix and have won them both. They played as the Vancouver Whitecaps and surprisingly their stadium is on the game, It looks pretty sweet it's called the BC Place Stadium.

So in every Fifa ive owned (fifa 99 - present) has taken a bit of getting used to but before to long i get the hang of it and start scoring goals and generally winning most, not all, games.

This latest one however i just cant for the life of me get the hang of. Ive played a fair few games with several different teams and whilst i win more than i lose i just cant get on a roll. Ive only scored 4 or more goals in a game about 3 times over 4 or so seasons. No formation seems to work for me. Theres very little fluidity to the gameplay and every team seems to be equally diffecult. I find no difference playing Man Utd than i do playing Wigan.

Generally i finds it to be a very unenjoyable game to play.

I find i score to many goals but can't defend for sh*t. Feels unrealistic when you keep getting 4-3 scorelines nearly every game :/

kind of the opposite to me. most of mine are 0-0 draw or a 1-0 win with a couple of 1-0 losses thrown in. those 3 outcomes cover about 85% of the games ive played

I have that aswell. The way to fix it is to delete you're stadium names.

Oh true. And that fixes it for sure? Does deleting the stadium names have any detrimental effect towards the game?

I'm not sure about xbox, I think you delete your cache? It's different with ps3 because if I want to delete my edited stadium names, I have to delete my edited squad files, so I just leave it.

Editing sliders even a little turns AI from world beaters to full retard.

Editing my own sliders even a little means we're scoring from half way even if I hit shoot accidentally.

Saw the PS2 version on sale at EB games ($37) so got it today.

Just had two friendlies on career mode (Spurs): Beat the Nix 2-0 at Wgtn (man our stadium looks good), then Toon 2-0 at WHL (on Legendary setting).

It's a lot harder than FIFA10, but Bale, Lennon and Walker are absolute speed merchants.

It's challenging that's for sure!

I was struggling with 'Arry's 4-4-1-1 formation for the friendlies and the first 3 games of Spurs' EPL season (despite some good scores in the friendlies against weak opponents and 4-0 against the Toffees in the first game of the season).

For my latest game against Wolves I switched to a conventional (flat) 4-4-2. Made the game so much more easy to play. Still not as "in control" as with FIFA 10 but a convincing/comfortable 4-0 win.

Will start on the Nix and Toon soon.

Go to customise FIFA => Edit Teams => Change Squads/rosters=> National squads, pick New Zealand.

You than want to pick someone with a low rating who is not in the first 11 or reserves, I use Michael Built normally.
You than replace whoever you want in Career mode who doesn't have a club with Michael Built. When you replace them, the player will automatically be moved to the free agent pile, so when you're in career mode on the transfer page, change transfer type to free agent and they'll be their. This works every time as I have done it with Chris Killen, Barbarouses and many Australian players. Hope I helped.

So after getting thumped 1-5 by Citeh and then changing to my favoured 4-4-2 to trounce Wolves, I bossed Liverpool at WHL but only won 3-2 (two break away goals - one scored by Carroll - oh the ignomy!).

So far a direct parallel with the real version (result -not score)

Player Manager is my renaissance mode.  I tried player mode but found I either had to change teams every year (not so bad I guess) or put up with idiotic managers that would sell all the good players in the team between seasons and not replace them. Also you're never ever subbed off so if you run too hard you end up missing entire games because you're exhausted. Manager mode makes me realise that I still can't defend well and I tend to play all players in one style.

Player Manager is the great middle ground where I get to play my creative midfield be a pro player and recruit players to my team knowing the AI will make creative players use their skills and defenders actually know what they're doing. Plus I can sub myself off the field and finish out games playing the whole team, generally just trying to whittle down the clock so I don't have to defend anything complicated :P

Using 4-4-1-1 myself, with one CAM (my be-a-pro) and one CDM so we can float back and forth around the middle of the park. Always attacking mentality and possession style.

Is it weird that I get more of a feeling of satisfaction when my team scores without my assistance than when I'm directly involved?

Basically just start a club and friend up on Xbox and people join the club and you play against other teams. If you haven;t played virtual pro, you just control your own player, no one else in the team but guessing you already know that. Tackling isn't so hard in virtual pro as you just really need to contain while any AI players come in for the tackle

Aarrgh!!

Storming through the league as Spurs, following the real thing - but actually beat Stoke away. Last league game thrashed Chavski 5-0 but then played them again in the league cup and lost 1-3 (resting most of my first team).

Toon is also doing well (2nd behind ManU). Nix are struggling but still in 4th place, small squad and tight schedules are not good.
