Cannot go anywhere with Villa atm. Doing my head in.

Had league finishes of 11th, 16th, 12th and 11th in that order. Currently 13th at the end of November in my fifth season. Made a cup final but lost to Spurs and didn't qualify for Europe as a runner up due to Spurs finishing out of the top four.

Can't seem to take them to the next level. I've often managed Villa in previous years and have always been able to improve them somehow (even from say mid-table to Europa League). Can't seem to do it this time. Not sure if they are that pathetic these days or i have seriously regressed in my FM skills.

Three for me, and two for them.

Jeepers you've finished 4 seasons already???
FM 2014 does seem a lot more difficult this time round...
Update on my story. After finishing a disappointing (in my opinion) 9th in my first season with Oxford City in The Skrill North, the financial situation at the club completely stripped me of any ability to re-sign players. Was reduced to signing teenage prospects on the cheap just to put together a squad for the following season. 10 games into the new season with 2 draws and 8 (sometimes devastatingly heavy) losses, I felt I could do nothing more to improve the team and tendered my resignation. After taking the majority of the season off, I was interviewed by the board at FC Halifax in The Skrill North who lost their manager to a higher league club. After stating my ambitions, I was welcomed to The Shay with the club finding themselves in 7th place with 10 games remaining. I managed to qualify for the playoffs and comfortably won the promotion play off final to The Skrill Premier. The board have supported me very well during pre-season, giving me a healthy wage budget of 10,000 quid a week to achieve a minimum mid table finish. Have managed to sign some very decent players which fit into my philosophy and also a very qualified backroom staff, including Michael Owen! First friendly against Liverpool U21s coming up.

I'm still playing 13, but will post in here anyway.

Having fun with my game at the moment, took over Norwich who are last in the premier league with 10 points from 17 games and 8 points behind 17th. Got a draw then a crucial win against Sunderland to move to 14 points and only 4 points behind villa in 17th at the halfway stage of the season.

Have Birmingham ( league one) in the FA cup next up, then a couple of difficult trips to manchester, so that win against Sunderland really was huge.

FFS I keep getting fired in November. Tried 4 times thus far. Says we have rich owners and I'm given a generous 5 mill for transfers. And NO One  (Probably wisely) wants to buy the dead wood I put up for transfer. Grrrr. Still great to play it on a tablet.

Had a good 3-4 seasons game in Portugal lower leagues, but in January they cut my wage budget, then a week later complained that I was over wage budget, demanded I sold players, and then the fullback issues got tough I lost 3 games as morale went down following the board telling the press I was under pressure, was slipping away from my target, kinda hard to get good places when the demands get out of hand. So left...now started a new game in Scotland as Nairn County :)

Built a decent Villa side. Here is an estimate at my starting 11 in July 2017.

Guzan

Hodson - Clark (c) - Kone - Baines

Hubert - Banega

Di Maria - Adryan - De Bruyne

Benteke

Also got some decent depth. Torres, Silva, Cazorla and Ramsey would all come off the bench. Could still strengthen the back four a bit.

Three for me, and two for them.

After a credible 1-1 draw against Liverpool U21's, what followed for FC Halifax was a complete and utter disaster. 6 points (2 wins) in 12 games. The board finally lost its patience and sacked me. I still can not figure out what went so horribly wrong. My 2 marquee centre back signings were completely not up to it. My strikers were completely incapable of scoring. I had signed quite high calibre coaches with fantastic ratings. My tactics were quite standard. No matter what I did, I could not turn it around. After a 3 month holiday, I accepted a position at Salisbury City in The Skrill Premier. 3rd club in 3 seasons...hopefully I've learnt something!

Well that was epic. Completed the great escape on the last day of the season.
Got 23 points in the last 21 games to finish on 33 and avoid relegation by goal difference. Last game of the season, saw west ham losing 2-0 to west brom, so watching that update I figured I only needed a draw to avoid the drop. However my striker got sent off for a second yellow for diving in the box after just 11mins, so it was an incredibly nerve wracking game!

I downloaded this on iOS on Sunday for the iPad. Started with Stockport in the lowest level (Skrill North) and into my 3rd season (10 games) and top of league 2. No cheats, no reloading to get the win. First time playing a football management game. I'm liking it.

JV, if you're enjoying it on iOS, try giving the PC/mac version out, you can get a Demo version which gives you until the new year in the game (about 3 months). It's so much more in depth than the iOS version, and so much more rewarding to play. Handheld is good for when I'm on the train or at work, but it's no substitute for the desktop version imo.

Can you transition saves from iOS to PC and back to iPad?

Nah, you can't unfortunately. You can transport it between different computers though. I save mine in Google Drive so I can play it on my laptop when I'm away from my desktop at home.

Just got silver in the Olympics with Ghana.

Finished top of group that included holland. Had a 2-1 extra time win in the quarterfinal, beat Denmark in the semifinal only to unfortunately lose 2-1 to brazil in the final.

I bought it on steam sale, but struggling to get into it,

what do people normally set as the amount of leagues active? For simulation purposes, things go relatively slow for me at the moment. Perhaps to many leagues/players selected?

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Permalink Permalink

I go all leagues, England, Spain, Scotland, Australia. Large database.

But yeah if its going slow, take some leagues out or go for a smaller database ( though I hate doing that)

What I selected first off was all leagues England, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Portugal and Straya.

Then aimed to get sacked within a week.

Thats what you do.. right?

Depends on the game I am playing. If I am planning on playing with just a single club then I only load that nation, and then add players to make the database bigger...

Custom: Large + All Players Top Div Europe, All Players based in my Nation, and then maybe some random countries as well to increase the rare players.

If I am planning on being a journeyman in my save then I generally load 5-6 nations all leagues, though try to not have more than 15 total leagues loaded (Goes really well on my laptop). If after a season or two you decide you want different ones you can always add a different one and remove the current one.

If you can put more RAM in there do that.

Running nicely on my 2013 rMBP with 6 nations (all playable) and large database.

Pretty sure you have to sign the player to marquee contract, so you do it when you offer a player a contract.

What do you need to do to become a favoured personnel or more?

I've been at Villa for 15 seasons, won a PL title, League Cup, Europa League. Made a CL semi. Got us into the top 10 in the UEFA coefficients. Top 20 on the rich list. Improved all facilities. Improved the club rep massively.

Had loads of offers for other jobs. Keep declining as i want to win a CL here and get my name on one of those lists.
