Hi everybody. I see there is much fuss about the regularity of penalty. In my opinion it's not really an issue, De Rossi was pulled by Smith. The real issue I see is whether the goal of New Zealand is regular.

As we can see here

Smeltz is clearly in offside right before the goal. How do you comment on that?

Maybe it evens for you, but how does it even up for Italy? And as I can see Italy is mostly blamed here as thieves and all sort of names although their penalty is perfectly fine by Rules Of The Game?

I don't know, I'm not Italian. How do you say intelectually dishonest in newzealand english? Is it the same as in british english?

Italy should be allowed to score an offside goal against Slovakia and then everything will be evened out.

Easy.

all their diving and rolling around on the floor evens it up for them

I don't know, but if I was trying to be clever and use big words like intellectually I'd try and spell them right.  Just a thought.

EG.  I suspect this man will make more sense in Croatian.  Want to chat with him in his native language for us ?  You can translate.

Tell him that it was a penalty, but the histrionics from the Italian defenders over the rest of the pitch are not likely to endear them, nor is Di Rossi's behaviour in the area.

Thanks.

Well, I'm not going to spend much words around here. The thing is you keep moaning about perfectly correct penalty while in the same time not mentioning that first New Zealand goal was totally irregular. Why don't you just celebrate the gifted point from referees and focus on another match? Because, if we look at the match as whole there's not much more from New Zealand than irregular goal and Wood's chances so you were really lucky. Enjoy it. ;) Justice For All2010-06-22 12:45:44

...and your ancestoral countryman Ivan Vicelich's chance.

It might be news to you, but we're 78th in the world.  Three chances and a draw is way more than we hoped for.  Thanks for playing though.

And then concede in the 93rd minute to get knocked out.

I apologise for assuming that the poster was Italian. Clearly I was being ethnically biased - it seems that Croatians, also, can be spoilt, entitled whiners outraged that their pampered, arrogant, overpaid heroes aren't automatically gifted wins over lesser mortals from backwaters. My mistake (and no offense el grap ;)

I'm sure nobody expected something more from New Zealand, especially from a neutral side. It is really a success.

Really lucky? I must have watched a different game. Nobody in their right mind would suggest that the All Whites are as technically gifted as Italy. However, they are very well organised. The World Champions huffed and puffed but didn't have the brains to break down the All Whites. The fact that Italy's only chances in open play were shots from distance merely confirms that.

The play acting and histrionics from the Italians will merely reinforce the sterotype, which is held by certain people in this country, that football is a game played by actors rather than athletes. Sad really.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Considering irregular goal, yes very lucky. New Zealand made a great job in defence but at the end of the day it's not really a true factor for success.

And imho, at least people from New Zealand (and Croatia) should stay away from stereotypes. Imagine what they think of us. We are placed on Balkan, and New Zealand is in God forsaken place. I'm sure someone from USA or other ignorant country stereotypes you as a goat lover.

Here is one for you:

The simple offside rule for women: If the flag goes up, it's f**king offside - OK ?

Did the flag go up for Smeltzy's goal ?  No.  Not offside.  Now f**k off back to your own playpen you ignorant cock.

Seems to be working so far!  I don't remember it doing Greece any harm when they won the European Championships either.

Nothing lucky about the result against Italy. They worked hard for it. Italy didn't deserve to win the game.

So that amazing italian attack is what makes them great?
Regardless of whether it was a penalty or not, Italy could not score a goal

New Zealand is in God forsaken place.

I think you'll find we refer to it as Gods own, thank you

Smeltz was offside but the goal counted, the dive won the pen, we drew with Italy.

Poor chap, weird coming to a home fan's site and pointing out you think we are one eyed...

Enough said about your arguement, enjoy the rest of the tournament

Thought Barron was being brought on to serve some De Rossi elbows on the defence to show them when they should be holding their face.

Not that O'Brien did as the blood streamed down his face. De Rossi is not Azzuri standard.

this may be somewhere else on this forum so apologies if it is. I see the articles talking about NZ having just 25 professional players. I figure there are 19 at the world cup (Clapham, Vicelich, Bannatyne and Barron being the ones who arent). Plus Chris James, Duncan Oughton, Steven Old, Costa and Kris Bright as pro's who didnt make it. So who am I missing?

You'd need to see Criteria.  Kayne Vincent in India possibly ?

Some youngsters in Japan and Germany probably don't count as pros, nor those in the US-League.

That's ridiculous, that shows us nothing, only that when the ball is just over half way through it's flight Smeltz is behind the last defender. Show us a picture of where he was when Elliot knocked it in.
