Roy should drop these players for the next game. Baines,Jagielka, Stirling, Gerrard and Welbeck. There is enough talent on the bench that is far better than these guys. Nothing to lose, just go for it.

It is acceptable to think that certain players are not good enough, but I hate people with the completely unfounded belief that other people are better.  Jagielka may not be the best player in the world, but he is significantly better than Jones or Smalling. Likewise Baines is significantly better than Shaw.

They might play with a little more pride maybe?

There is a bloke who drives a white van (really fast) round by where I work.  He has a BNP membership, and a tattoo of a bulldog on his forearm.  He weighs probably 25 stone, but he would play for England with the most amount of pride out of anyone in the whole wide world. Do we think that he should play instead of Sturridge in the first England game after the world cup?

Watching Jagielkas post match interview last night, not qutie sure how you make that claim. Or Gerrard's reaction post match, pretty sure he has plenty of pride in playing for England.

Reminds me of that Redknapp story when he invited a skin head who had been moaning about how crap the team was playing to come on the pitch and the guy allegedly scored two goals. Think it was for West Ham.

Also you don't have to be a sterotype to have some pride in your country.

No, but Frankie's point, though unsubtly made, remains valid: pride is not particularly relevant. Although pride is a amorphous concept in these circumstances where the disgruntled fan seems to think the reason why a player hasn't won or played to their potential is all because of a lack of pride. The tabloids love that stuff. Hey ho.

The fan getting a run-out in a friendly is a really interesting story - not relevant to the topic under discussion, but still fascinating. The Guardian did a good piece on it:

http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2013/sep/...

Oh and spoiler alert, but for those who can't be bothered to read to the end:

"My goal was disallowed." He smiles roguishly. "I was two yards offside. I ran up to the ref and told him, 'You bastard, you spoiled my dream!'"

You might as well turf out the older players and give shaw etc a run out to gain a bit of experience.

So what better way to reward Woy than to give him a 2 year extention for losing so early.

How ironic after all the times you give other fans shit when they are hoping for results to go their way to aid their team.

Three for me, and two for them.

I don't think that the two Utd players are any better than Jagielka but he has been poor, as when you  not playing well then you should be dropped.

By the way, is this the same Jagielka that Suarez has scored 6 goals against him in the last six outings?

Well, after two incredibly disappointing results, Hodgson has to make some changes to the lineup. Having said that, I think he'll have a bob each way: yeah some changes, but still wanting to win. Nought from three is pretty ugly...

I think he'll bring Shaw in at LB, but keep Cahill and, sigh, Johnson(there is no other alternative). He may drop Jags and go with either Smalling or Jones, but I'm not sure. The qualifiers for the Euros roll around very quickly and are the aforementioned replacement central defenders BETTER than Jagielka? Remember that the Cahill/Jagielka combo have conceded only a handful of goals up to the WC. I know, I know: they're not top drawer, but they're the best Roy has. Also, there is absolutely no guarantee that either Jones/Smalling will even be playing in central defence for United next season.Picking one of them could be a wasted exercise...I'd bring in Lallana and Barkley and dump Welbeck and Gerrard defo. I'd like to start Wilshere but he doesn't look match fit: off the bench and ditto for the Ox, who might be ready. Rooney will keep his place: best Engl player v Uruguay, and as I say Roy will want a win. Rooney is the best scoring option. Sterling did nothing but should be persevered with. I'd keep Henderson too: a workhorse that's needed alongside Barkley. So for me, it'll be Hart, Johnson, Shaw, Cahill, Jagielka, Henderson, Barkley, Sterling, Lallana, Rooney, Sturridge.

Ask me the same question in 20mins and I'll give you another team...no problem!

I agree with all except Jagielka. However the two Utd players are probably not much better. Jagielka has conceded 6 goals against Suraz in the last 6 encounters. Unfortunately he is a ball watcher.

He should have picked Curtis Davies as centreback, he would have done better than Jagielka

Yeah I'm not convinced either but I'm not sure Roy will want to make wholesale changes at the back, despite Jag's mistakes. Having said that, he does have a soft spot for Smalling(discovered him in non-league and took him to Fulham), so who knows?

The problem is that they can't afford to return home having lost all 3 games.  As the saying goes 'a change is as good as a rest '

Wait? Is that thread from the last World Cup? Joke aside.
I thought they analyzed the issues of the english football years ago and this should be a younger team, one for the future.
I'm no insider, all I can see an old looking coach and a english league that starts with a bank name. I doubt they care much about long term youth investment.
Spain is out the WC as well, I bet they are faster back on top than we think, I'm reading they have an incredible youth coming through the ranks.

Who has just won the u17 Euros?(2nd time in 4 years)  Ahem...England. It seems that England have " incredible youth " too. Of course going on to get games in a competition overloaded with foreigners is an ongoing problem

Quite correct. Only 32% of English players start in the EPL. Best league in the world, the rest  foreigners. Time to follow the cricket and only allow so many 'non English players'

OK, if the english youth is good, why they are not playing in 'lower' leagues? France, Italy, Germany, Spain, USA? Because they have limited foreigner spots, which will be filled by better, more senior players? Haha, that would be tragic

Been said before but so true, more young English players should go abroad if they want to learn and are wanting better game time. Don't know why they are so reluctant.

Three for me, and two for them.

Would have to leave the EU first I think. Pretty sure EU labor laws mean all EU citizens have equal rights to be employed anywhere in the EU, which in practice means football leagues can't implement rules like that.

Doesn't really affect cricket because what are the other EU cricketing nations - Ireland and Holland?

Think you might be right, but still a lot of non EU citizens.

I know it won't change as for the FA and clubs is it all about money.
