Have I seen you around Vic with a Columbus Crew shirt with Clarke on the back?

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

To quote a mate from Toronto:

"for sale: two front row seats to the "i don't care" cup (i mean...mls cup...) featuring dallas v. colorado."

Bet ya it won't sell out.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC make their first official MLS signing, Duncan Oughton.

(That was a blatant lie targeted directly at CboZ)

Actual first official signing - Centreback Jay DeMerit, from Watford, USA national team member who started all four matches at the World Cup

To be honest I hope another team signs Oughton then I can support my Crew and His "crew".

From what I've heard, it's more a matter of sales reaching projections. Then bear in mind that season pass holders were forced to buy MLS Cup tickets, so sales don't indicate desire (hence my mate, and plenty others, trying to offload theirs). It might "sell out", but there'll be plenty of empty seats.

Oh, and other MLS news, the recent identity change:

Before - Kansas City Wizards

After - Sporting Kansas City

Thoughts? Yay/Nay?

It was silly and cartoony and didnt' sit well with eurosnobs. But imo - screw the eurosnobs, it's not Europe, it makes more sense for American teams to have American-style names. The name had historical currency - it was the Wizards who won the MLS Cup in 2010  and it was the Wizards that beat Manchester United this year. And Sporting Kansas? Ridiculous. Kansas City FC or Kansas City United would've been more forgiveable.

Oh, and Colorado Rapids win 2-1 the 2010 Apathy Cup. FC Dalllas to cry all the way back to their bouncy castle!

didn't they win it in 2000?  yes I agree sporting Kansas sounds stoopid!

2000 is correct. Crossed wires there, must've still been thinking about the match just gone.

List of protected players (and thus available players) released today. Some names include:

Columbus - Duncan Oughton
NYRB - Andrew Boyens
Philadelphia Union - Fred
DC - Danny Allsopp
Chicago - Freddie Ljungberg
San Jose - Joe Cannon (was GK for LA Galaxy when they play the Nix)

Some very interesting names there. I'd love to see the Whitecaps draft Pat Onstad from Houston (though I'd love Jay Nolly to get a shot). Julian de Guzman as a Canadian national team member (currently with Toronto FC) could be tempting, I'm guessing they're shedding him to pay for DeRo's payrise. And naturally I'd love the Kiwis on my team. Jimmy Conrad (Lisbon Wizards) could form an interesting partnership with Jay DeMerit. Joe Cannon could have a few good years left, might be a decent pickup for Portland (because I want us to draft Onstad).

I thought Andy Boyens had another year on his contract at NYRB? I thought de Guzman was a bit hot and cold.

That was the unprotected list, not a free agent list. So Boyens would still be on contract. It just meant that NYRB allowed Vancouver and Portland the chance to select him in the expansion draft.

That is very green, I like it though!
10 Dec 03:45 · edited 09 Sep 05:31
I think the green one is brilliant and the red one has potential. I'd probably scrap the white arms on the latter. For both I'd also scrap the adidas striping, it looks terrible IMO, far below what adidas is capable of. That being said, I'd also like to see all three Cascadian teams wear Nike, ESPECIALLY Portland.

Portland certainly the winner in terms of expansion team kit. Vancouver really dropped the ball by not including the traditional chest bars.
10 Dec 17:42 · edited 09 Sep 05:31
Im liking the Portland kit... I like the Rose City alternative theme a lot and the little back of the neck details. getting sick of an all adidas league though.
13 Dec 08:50 · edited 09 Sep 05:31
I love the Portland timbers kit, especially the stitching pattern between the two colours. Very nice.

http://www.portlandtimbers.com/news/2010/12/timbers-show-theyre-eyeing-massive-scale-11

The guy second from the right, his kit is a bit different, guessing he's a keeper? am loving the gold, instead of the white.Azevo2010-12-13 21:51:04

Fail. The logo is weak. The logo designer got lazy and copied the MLS Eastern Conference logo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Conference_(MLS)
