Well, if he's really desperate for international football, he'll be eligible for the All Whites next year...

Surely that'll be his goal now. He'd be a shoo-in for the AWs. Especially during qualifying.

Just meant that if an old foreign player is to take a Kiwis place in the AWs then Durante might be the better option.Whatcha think bout that?

Not sure why we should restrict ourselves to one. don't care where a player has come from

think we would be pretty far through qualifying by the time he is eligible. might just be the playoff left.2ndBest2012-02-24 19:17:54

Agree with 2B - you pick the best players that are available and eligible, regardless of their background.

CB is the one place where the AW's have something resembling depth

I dunno, we've got a lot of striker/attacking mid options too: Wood, Killen, Smeltz, Kosta, Rojas, Fallon, McGlinchey, Daniel, Payne.... I'd say defensive midfielders and fullbacks are the two areas where we really don't have much cover

To play 100 games for a club is a great honour and to be captain as well makes it even more special," the Australian said.

"I didn't know what to expect when I arrived but I have loved Wellington. I arrived on a two-year contract and had no plans to stay longer than that but the place, and the group at the club, grew on me.

"It is a great group of players. We had a lot of things that were out of our control going against us this season, but we haven't let it show on the field.

"We've stuck together through some tough times and we deserve to be where we are."

So how would people feel about this?  Personally I can't understand why he hasn't been called into the Socceroos squad.  It's a disgrace.  But would he feel disgruntled enough about the snub to play for NZ?  Would he sing our national anthem hand on heart?

Interested in peoples thoughts.

He does love Wellington. Not like we haven't done it with other players either. All for it. It's a disgrace he's never been picked for Australia.

Makes me think of Daniel.  How he was desperate to play for the All Whites and will most likely never get a chance.  Whereas Dura will probably be wanted, but appears undecided.

If he plays for NZ he will be playing a country that is his home for at least the near future and isn't much different in terms of culture from his Australua. He is probably going to hold out for Australia for a while but I would not be surprised to see him in our 2014 world cup squad. He is class.

Yeah i kind of felt bad for Daniel, thought he shouldve at least been included in the nations cup squad instead of the likes of Clapham. Hope Dura plays for NZ though.

yeah i reckon Daniel would have been fun to have come on against the solomos or in one of the dead rubbers. Having Dura available just as Nelsen is getting close to retirement is perfect though - just hope the aussies keep snubbing him.

Interesting timing, a day after another major All White-related announcement ... I guess he thinks he's got a chance to get in the squad now we've lost our best centre back.

Pardon the cynicism, I am pleased to get him.

Not interesting timing at all, this has come out only because of yesterdays announcement, due to the number of people floating it as an option.

Well no, he was asked by the media at the same presser that the media were asking Ricki about Nelsen's possible retirement. He's been thinking about it for some time and it appears he has known where he sits for a little while. Seams like an appropriate time to say it to me. Particularly because Ricki and current All Whites appear to be very supportive. Edit. Beat me to it patrick.

Most Australians could care less, as he is not good enough to play for Australia, but some might think he is a traitor.

If any of the A-League CB's are good enough, he is. But we don't really mind that Archie chose Australia so maybe they won't care too much.
