Good news!

@Leggy See it that way. He chose the country he like to play for, and not the one he was accidentally born into. Motivation boost!

Pleased for Durante. But not great from a Nix point of view. Next season during the November WC playoffs and the build up games we could possibly have Dura, Siggy, Locky, Hogg, Leo all away with the AW's.....thats our entire first choice backline....so who is going to play in defense?

PROOF that Dura couldn't stand not being coached by Ricki! :D

The FFA said last week that they will ensure the situation won't arise so assume they will give the Phoenix the week off or the whole league if Aus are playing in the same window.

I could care less really. His choice. Same goes for Archie Thompson.
My earlier point was that unlike earlier AW's that were not born in NZ and  who came to live and then played for NZ, he came only to work (the NIx) and when he only made the bench for the Socceroos he probably spat the dummy and realised  that his only chance to play international football was to become a Kiwi.

Think the writing was on the wall when they selected Matt Smith ahead of him. They would rather pick a naturalised Englishman than him.

You may be right, but I think Smith deserved it. I'm sure he was picked on merit rather the fact he was English.

I'm sure that you are right, but personally I don't think Smith is any better than Dura. The fact that Dura was left out of the Socceroo's squad made almost entirely from A-League players means that he is almost never going to get a game for them, especially not when they are full-strength.

I understand how you feel. He plays for us. Had Durante played for Glory, we would not be having this conversation.

Well Siggy's out suspended for the NC game I believe so if all goes well, surely Dura is a almost certain starter.

Very true.

You could say something similar about countless All Whites who got signed by clubs in the old Nat Lge, but could have easily ended up at an Aussie club or somewhere else.

We could get Siggy extremely pissed if he comes down for the match. White Noise for Siggy? I should have asked.

Still the 2nd game of the window in the islands afterwards. Wouldn't want a NZ Cricket moment, would we.

LOL good point. As I was discussing with Siggy this suspension system is bollocks. Why can't you work off the yellows by having clean matches? Would be more fair if it was x number of yellows in any y consecutive matches.

The real cock up was from OFC doing American Samoa a favour. The confederations are allowed to wipe everyone's yellow cards ONCE during the qualification period, and the logical time to do it would have been after the Nations Cup. However the OFC did Samoa a political favour and wiped them after the first round of OFC qualifying, meaning it only helped American Samoa, who then proceded to get knocked out of the group stage of the Nations Cup.

but then you would have teams that would plan yellow cards on certain players so that no one got suspended and they did maximum damage for it. Not a situation we want to get into...

Present system is odd though particularly say in the A League. Take Jacob Burns, he got five cards in first five games he played but gets the same suspension as someone who gets five cards in 21 matches

I have no problem with that. Also with that, when he hits 8, he gets another whack so the tolerance drops from 5 to 3. Its fair.

Agree with (Northern) Jeff. Am I also right in thinking that if you get to 8 yellows before round 21 you earn a 2 match suspension instead of the usual 1? If so, that's plenty punishment for the players that average a yellow card per game.

No it wouldn't, this system punishes persistent infringement of LotG from the same player over the course of a competition.

No, it's 1 a game suspension. For every 3 yellow cards thereafter, there's another 1 match suspension.

Ah okay, there must be a more up to date version of the rules than the one I was looking at: http://ffaadmin.sportalhosting.com/site/_content/document/00001823-source.pdf

Only in as much as it may influence Dura's selection in the team.

Dura to play in 22 on the 22nd apparently. Auspicious. Maybe.

Permalink Permalink

according to AFF the fifa international competition standard for suspensions for yellow cards is:

5 - 1 playing day

7 - 2 playing days

9 - 3 playing days

10 - judicial hearing

seems odd the NZF insist all new zealand comps do this when i don't think any of the other comps around the world do?
