Given the guilty plea, there is likely a deal to have been done around sentancing etc.

Okay definitely not excusing or minimising anything he might or might not have done but just pointing out that sexual assault covers the full spectrum of unwanted contact from (for example) an unwanted kiss through to everything short of rape.

Given he has made a very specific admission I wouldn't jump to any sentence conclusions too quickly, although you are right there is a strong likelihood of a custodial sentence in any sexual assault case. For a first offence at the lower end of the spectrum he might get some sort of community or suspended sentence though.

It says he was drunk and touched a woman while she slept. This behavior is appalling and is what you'd expect from people in their late teens and early 20s not a grown man. Absolutely disgusting.

No argument from me there. Getting boozed and touching sleeping women isn't okay when you're a teenager either incidentally.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Of course not, when you're younger there is a certain amount of inexperience, peer pressure, the fact that you're off the leash, and simply that your young and dumb.

The behavior is horrible no matter what. I'm just saying that he should know better at his age whereas someone who is younger doesn't neccesrarily because of the way that society is.

I was just thinking about myself and my friends as a man approximately his age and no one I know would do something like that at our age, I thought 15 years ago someone might - but thinking about it again probably not.

I shouldn't have said anything and I regret it.

I loathe the 'boys will be boys' excuse. It's a failure of society that teenage boys have a poor understanding of consent, and that we excuse their behaviou on the basis of their relative maturity.

I wonder if he has a history of such behaviour - not necessarily go into people's house at night but on tour and with booze involved, we will all of seen some guys who are a little bit 'loose' in some of their behaviours. This might not surprise some that know him, I don't know.

But yeah, a lot of us have to reappraise our heroes on the basis of their private lives, especially in this day and age when sexual assault is a bit hard to sweep under the carpet. There's lots of debate on whether Roman Polanski's films are any less great given his Pedobear/hottub shenanigans.

Getting off topic but in both the Assange and Polanski cases the depressing thing is how many otherwise liberal men and women rise to their defense. I guess it's a cognitive dissonance thing. See also: Woody Allen

I think with Polanski he's also attracted sympathy/defenders, due to losing most of his family in the Holocaust. Not saying it's right.

The sympathy was from having his wife murdered by the Manson family.

Agree with Oska - I was a big fan of his and I am simply appalled now. I actually googled Killen quite recently to see if he was still kicking a ball...learning about this was quite shocking really.

Absolutely no excuse for this. Drunk or not, it doesn't matter. Alcohol is not an excuse for horrendous behaviour.
