I was reading the 442 season preview magazine over the weekend, and they have a 2 page spread on each premiership club going through the same standard bunch of content (information on manager, tactics, strengths, weaknesses, etc). One of the sections for each club is "Must Improve" and it can cover the running of the club (cost of tickets), a section of the team (attackers must score more goals) or a specific player. The Leicester section for "Must Improve" is about Chris Wood, basically saying that he is not a kid anymore and has to deliver on his potential.

I would think a loan period somewhere would be good for him as opposed to a transfer. Unless the transfer gave him the same or higher salary.That way he can be dragged back if they need him through injuries, lack of form etc.If he hangs in a few goals it would also increase his transfer value and that might be good for LFC and him. Its a tough one for a guy in his position; he has to weigh up his chances of getting that EPL start at LFC with his desire to actually play football and make a decent living. Even harder if LFC are putting pressure on him to go so they can free up some $$$ to buy someone else.

I think Napier Phoenix has hit the nail on the head. He may have to go out on loan but they are trying to sell him to that level anyway so the loan option is probably the smarter move for Chris as it does give him a tie back to the EPL club. If he goes out on loan and goes off, then his value jumps up and he can come back up. The loan move is a far better option.
I guess as a sportsman there is also a nag in the back of your head that you also have to weigh up earning your cash while you can because once you are done, you either live off what you have earned in 'retirement' or you get a new job. 2 mil in the hand is better than 1 mill in the hand.

I know what you're saying but the guy is 22. If he's cutting his losses and planning for retirement at that age he's never going to make it.
the issue is, is that he's probably going to be selected for international duty regardless of if he is playing in reserves or not. Its up to him to decide if he want to try leave a legacy or sit in the reserves until his contract runs out only playing a handful of games.

Not sure this is a helpful question (not having a go just don't think it's very illustrative).
Firstly, a lot of people might struggle to make ends meet on half their current salary. Wood could halve his current salary and still earn megabucks (compared to us mere mortals).
Second, if he's thinking that he "might" get a better job in a year or two he's taking the wrong attitude. He needs to be backing himself. If he believes in himself then it's not a lottery whether he gets a better gig it's just a matter of how he can best prove that that's what he deserves. And if taking a pay cut but getting regular playing time is the way to do that then that's what he should do. Alternatively the best thing might be to stay where he is and bust his guts to prove himself, even though he knows he's going to have to make improvements to get in the first XI.

Missed this as I was typing the above post. I understand what you're saying. I just don't think he should be worrying about the money, if he believes in himself to make it in the EPL then he needs to back himself to achieve that by whatever route possible. He might have to sacrifice either salary or game time to get there but if that's necessary that's what he should do imo. If he can have it both ways, then great, but I don't think money should be a major factor for him. At least that'd be my advice to him.

Scoring a goal in the English Premier League is an amazing achievement, let alone for a 22 year old New Zealander. It's a goal that Leicester supporters won't forget in a hurry. Let's hope for more.

Yep think it was good idea to stay. Gives him a chance to taste EPL football for a while, fight for a place in the team, and at the very least travel to stadiums like Old Trafford where even sitting on the bench would be a cool experience.
He can always reassess his options in January.
