He scored twice, the second one levelled the scores at 3 all

each team had their 25-man squads on soccernet with the young players at the end, but west brom's still didn't have Chris Wood on there?

West Brom: Giles Barnes, Roman Bednar, Chris Brunt, Scott Carson, Marek Cech, Simon Cox, Graham Dorrans, Marc-Antoine Fortune, Pablo Ibanez, Gonzalo Jara, Dean Kiely, Abdoulaye Meite, Ishmael Miller, James Morrison, Youssouf Mulumbu, Boaz Myhill, Peter Odemwingie, Jonas Olsson, Steven Reid, Paul Scharner, Nicky Shorey, Gabriel Tamas, Somen Tchoyi, Jerome Thomas, Gianni Zuiverloon.

i wonder if that's bc they will be sending him to Derby or somewhere once the emergency loan window opens next week, but wanted to hold him for short-term bc of Bednar injury

From the Guardian ...

West Brom have named 11 homegrown players, while first-team players under the age of 21 including Chris Wood, Joe Mattock, Sam Mantom and George Thorne do not need to be named.

Okay, because Soccernet didn't have any younger guys so I wasn't sure if it was just a mistake, or that he wasn't included.

fantastic news

Anyone know what Derby's striker stocks are like?
You know we belong together...

Very thin, reading the Derby forums they seem to think he'll get a great deal of game time. They dont seem to sure if hes up to it yet, but that hes a great prospect for the future

If Rob Hulse stayed through the transfer window (which I think he did) then he will be the main striker - one of the better lower league strikers about (along with Ricky Lambert and the bloke at Norwich).  Apart from that, one of their other strikers went to Blackpool, and then they have players like Kris Commons (and another bloke whose name escapes me - Green????) who play as either wingers or as wide players in an attacking 3.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked

Hulse left for QPR

Wouldnt mind him steying in the epl if there are injuries, but game time would be good.

Go on loan just till january, get some real form, then rock back to west brom and dominate the EPL.

He did well against Liverpool considering a) the significance of the venue and the opposition. b) the fact he had no time to make a real impact and c) he can't have been expecting to get on.

two more goals for Wood for reserves in 4 nil win over Bolton reserves

In comparison to another league around the world, what is the standard of the English Reserves League Wood would be playing in?

The standard in reserves league is pretty poor, don't really think a meaningful comparison with other leagues around the world can be made.

Agree. I don't think a comaparison made. I think there's a huge variation in standard depending on the size of the clubs. Take a club like United. They often have the likes of Macheda, Obertan and Fabio playing for the reserves but then the league as a whole couldn't really be compared to any pro leagues I don't think. He'd certainly be better going on loan than scoring goals for the reserves.

no way it is extremely poor. Many guys who are regulars in reserve leagues will struggle to make it as a pro in the UK. Look at guys like ben collett and james derbyshire who have played at United and then come to NZ

Normo's coming home

I agree mostly with you but I think your wrong re Ben... he trained too hard though believe it or not, permanently at the gym when not training which was why he looked fatigued for the Knights when playing.

Hopefully he starts regularly rather than coming on with 15 to go. pretty hard to improve your goals to game ratio in that situation. Good luck Chris. Make the most of it.

One of the major problems I think in England producing world class talent. In Germany and Spain reserve teams can enter the football league pyramid, Barcelona B is in the Segunda Division and currently sit 7th. Only ruling is that reserve teams can't be promoted to the league above if their first team is in that league. So much better to develop footballers in this environment rather than playing in the reserve leagues.

Wood's loan move is getting plenty of positive and enthusiastic responses on Barnsley Fans Forums. Interesting a lot of people and newspapers and internet sites still call him Chris Woods.

What is the best Barnsley fan forum - the two I found were pretty lame

Stoked about this. He should get a decent run with them. Obviously struggled to get too much gametime in Championship division last year because West Brom were so strong. And of course Wood is a bit older now which'll help.

They are away to Reading tonight, 1am. Hopefully he can make the bench. Brilliant if he started.
