Of course nothing to do with the fact that Cardiff to Bristol, over the Severn is only a one hour drive!

Will have to be announced quick UK transfer window closes 19:00 GMT on Monday 2nd February.

If it happens plus with Libby & Marko playing within Wales, surely never a better time to be Kiwi football fan living in the Principality.

Spent a couple of years living in Bristol so always got a soft spot for The Robins even despite how they turned so rabidly on our beloved Marinovic! Seem like forever trapped in perennial Championship purgatory, hope FInn could be the man to turn their fortunes around. Not sure what it's like now days but there's worse cities in the UK to be in as a youngster especially as a pro footballer.

If Bristol were to pay £5 million, with our sell on clause plus youth solidarity dues, we could be in line for a $2 million payday

Looks like he's staying in the mls for now

Yep, the Robins opt for another promising young CB from the MLS instead in Noah Eile - No trip east to Ashton Gate for me

Probably for the best. Could see him getting far more interest and going for a much bigger fee (of which a significant chunk would flow through to us) after a breakout World Cup performance

Thats why Silkenborg didn't sell McCowatt.

Where is the source we are getting 40 per cent of his next transfer fee?

Auckland will rise once more

It won't be 40%. Sell-on clauses are usually in the 15-20 percent range. I seem to remember it being said we negotiated a sell-on clause when we sold him, but even if we didn't, we will still get development solidarity payments.

Near full time, and Timbers trail 2-0 at Colorado.
Surman and Bonetig as the CB partnership.

But's it's a 3rd ex ALM young CB that's the star today.
18 yr old Lucas Herrington (ex Roar) with a goal for the Rapids.

His last Roar game, was the great Nix 3-0 road win in Redcliffe.

Timbers went down to 10 men at 77 mins (2-0).

Edit - a 2-0 loss for Portland. Highlights

Via Niche Cache, 7 min Surman chat. He had a month long holiday in NZ.
Some AWs WC chat.

Sounds like a guy who quietly sets some lofty goals for himself. Wonder if one is to crack the EPL.

I remember some story that as a teenager he wrote down goals like playing for the Nix and then AWs by a certain age.

Surman a full game as the Timbers lose 1-4 at home to Vancouver.

Aussie Bonetig was out injured. Whitecaps one of the better teams in the Western Conference last season.

Highlights. Timbers cut apart. 36 yr old Thomas Muller still running around.

Oh man. That’s a tough break. Leading 2-1 after 90 minutes. Looks like there was a pen included in two goals in stoppage time for Vancouver.

Surman with the ex Nix bragging rights, and a star 8.5 Soccerway rating, as the Timbers win 2-1.

Boyd a full game for LAFC, and he stung the palms of Timbers GK with a shot at one point. But looks like he only started as LAFC heavily rotated their squad having midweek CONCACAF Champions League two leg QF commitments to juggle.
They had a 17 yr old score a beauty for their sole goal in this game.

The Colorado Rapids welcomed 75,824 fans for Saturday's Matchday 8 visit from Lionel Messi and Inter Miami CF, marking the second-highest single-game attendance in MLS history.

Colorado's 30th Anniversary Match was moved from Dick’s Sporting Goods Park to Empower Field at Mile High, home of the NFL's Denver Broncos, and supporters came out in unprecedented numbers to witness Miami's 3-2 win.

Only the 82,110 fans in attendance for the July 4, 2023 El Tráfico between LA Galaxy and LAFC at the Rose Bowl have beaten that figure.

Niche Cache. Odds on this is Surman's last season in the MLS.

Continues the trend from this weeks' Niche Cache of AWs players likely going to a higher level and/or bigger club in the next 12 months. Just, Garbett, McCowatt and Surman.

This AWs generation should be stronger again at the 2030 WC. It's a pity there will be nothing worthwhile to play for about 2028 like a Euros or Asian Cup.

CascadiaFC.com: “From a stat-sheet perspective, Surman was awesome yet again. Here’s how his 15 defensive actions were categorized: 5 tackles, 1 block, 7 clearances (4 aerial), 2 interceptions, and 3 recoveries. Without Surman’s reliability and consistency, this team would be conceding at least two more goals per game. Don’t worry, I’m already beginning to work on his case for (MLS) Defender of the Year. No other defender in the league is more important to their team than Surman is to the Timbers.”

Big result for Portland who were decidedly 2nd best to San Diego in the MLS playoffs last year

The Surmanator sounds in good form. Niche Cache.
Who knows if he shines at the World Cup where he will start and be busy - it might be a leap straight into the EPL later this year.

On Anzac weekend it was the Kiwi/Aussie centre-back duo of Alex Boniteg and Finn Surman who were the heroes for Portland Timbers as they won 2-1 away against San Diego. Two struggling teams, the type of game that Portland needs to win in order to climb up the ladder to where they feel they should be. Full credit to Boniteg who scored the injury time winner and got picked for MLS Team of the Week and all that good stuff... but his moment wouldn’t have been nearly so valuable had Finn Surman not made a typically courageous block down the other end in the time that remained, getting his chest in front of a thumping volley that was flying towards the top corner.

That was blocked shot #19 for Surman this season, extending his MLS-wide lead. He’s also fourth for defensive clearances (which he led the MLS for in 2025). Finn Surman and James Pantemis are the only Portland players who have played all 810 minutes thus far. He’s fantastic for them every single week, the consistency is off the charts. And you know what else? He captained them in this game... and they still won. This was the sixth time that he’s captained the Timbers and in the previous five they’d gone 0W-1D-4L. There goes an unwanted streak, batted away just like he batted away that shot at the end there.
