Stanger a full game in a 3-0 win.
Killies should now be safe from the relegation playoff spot. They go 4 pts clear of St Mirren with 2 matches left.
Kilmarnock have definitely been better, latter half of the season once Stanger came back into the starting lineup.

Kilmarnock with George Stanger on the pitch:
1,625 mins | 25 GF – 25 GA | 0 GD

Kilmarnock without George Stanger on the pitch:
1,705 mins | 18 GF – 41 GA | -23 GD

George Stanger, pre-Dundee: “Yeah, no, it would obviously be a nice dream to be [in the NZ World Cup squad], but I think I've always said this answer anytime anyone's asked me: I am fully focused on on tomorrow. I've said it 100 times probably to you guys, I think, but playing well for Kilmarnock gives me the best opportunity for that and we've got a big job to do tomorrow night. We're not thinking about anything else, any results elsewhere. We're fully focused on on what we can control, which is we know if we go and win the game tomorrow night, that's us secured our safety. [The World Cup] would be amazing experience for me and to be part of that would be something really special, but I'll just need to kind of wait and see what happens over the next week or so.”

There was some chat mid-season about whether he might be sent out on loan and now here we are with Stanger finishing the year as a first eleven centre-back. It’ll be too late for him to crack that All Whites squad for the World Cup but he’ll get that international debut sooner rather than later. It’s his bad luck that he’s a specialist in a position where New Zealand has a lot of depth but at 25yo he’s still building towards his career peak and following a full season back in the Scottish Premiership, chock-full of learning experiences, he’s probably one of our most underrated professionals right now.

Amazing to think a starting CB inthe SPL isnt good enough to make a NZ team when you look at some of our past squads.

I mean, nepotism aside it probably is good enough when you consider Smith has a spot on the plane.

If he doesn’t make it, it seems likely they’ll take one or both of Nando and Smith ahead of him, which seems quite perverse.

I can live with Nando, but Smith ahead of any of Stanger, Hughes and Tuiloma would be an embarrassment for NZ Football.

I'd accept Smith over Tuiloma but not the other two.

60 minutes in a thumping 4-1 to close out a great last two months of the season.

He's surely the best Kiwi player currently active to not yet play for the senior mens team, right? Hopefully will receive a deserved call up later in the year once Smith has retired after the world cup.
Annual finals disappointment enthusiast.

Yes Killies finish 10th & a comfortable 6 pts clear of St Mirren (11th) who are into the releagtion playoffs verus Patrick Thistle.

Aberdeen (9th) only edge Kilmarnock on GD.

Killies turn around in form starting around the time Stanger returned to the starting lineup.
He played 20 games this SPL season, and scored twice.

Is going to be a very useful backup to Surman & Bindon, 2030 WC cycle.

He could also get his nose in front. Good to see him earn the rewards after dropping down leagues to get game time etc. Paid his dues.

George Stanger: “I would have loved to be there (World Cup) and was disappointed when I found out I wouldn’t be, but that’s football. As soon as I dealt with the disappointment, it was just full support for New Zealand. It was a great tournament for the country and it’s just only going to keep growing there. I also know how highly the manager speaks and thinks of this league and this level. There’s quite a few Kiwis in the league now. Elijah Just did so well at Motherwell and he’s now moved on, but we’ve gained a couple this summer. I’ve always said that’s the thing that’s going to give me the opportunities with New Zealand is playing and doing well here at Kilmarnock. It’s still a massive goal of mine. I feel like I’m getting closer and closer with each season. I’ve still been speaking to the New Zealand manager. He texted me the other day. I know I’m there or thereabouts.”

Incredibly end to end game so far, not something really seen from a Celtic game since the Ange era. Rain seems to be getting heavier as the game has gone on, lights are on at the stadium at 2pm.

Stanger holding himself up really well so far against some runs by Høgh, Tierney, and Yang so far. Prevented a few decent goal scoring opportunities.

Also been brought forward a few times and seems to be making some interesting movements at corners as well.

Edit: 3-0 now after 35 minutes. Stanger not really responsible but could've possibly tracked Høgh a little better on the third. More just inevitability given an incredibly audacious press with 3 at the back that Killie has been playing

9 goals against in two games is pretty embarrassing for the 'defence'

The tactics (heavy press with more men up the pitch) that McCann is sending the team out there with in theory could've troubled Celtic, but the early goal kind of prevented the pressure from building up and then Killie not taking advantage of the chances they had in the first 30 minutes killed any hope for a result.

It's feeling a little like Chiefy insisting on going with the suicidal high line. Yeah it worked from time to time, but it resulted in shipping goals (especially early).

Hopefully it's just early season gelling with new manager and Yfeko coming in at LCB, but right now Killie fans are feeling like it's a relegation year after shipping 9 across the first 180 minutes of the Premiership season
