I don't rate reading fan forums, but in this case curosity got the better of me.
Mostly those on the Forum seem grumpy as they have only scored 1 goal in pre season, and are a bit worried with Elanga gone.

Sounds like all their creative players came off around the time Marko came on, so the attack looking a bit toothless to finish the game.

Not sure why we're wasting minutes on Stamenic.

I won’t rate the subs, as only Jota, Sangare and Taiwo are really going to be involved in league games. Carmo and Stamenic both look like mid-table Championship players at best.

Bad news though: our favourite Indian Restaurant, the Haveli on the A52, has gone, being replaced by a f***ing Starbucks! Sorry, but in my opinion all US culture should be banned from England, and we should embrace and support the great Indian cuisine!

Four more changes for the Reds: Carmo, Stamenic, Awoniyi & Morato replace, Wood, Jesus, Murillo & Williams.

... decent minutes. Finished 0 - 0, but not so good for Forest, only scoring a single goal (header from Wood) in 6 pre-season games so far.

Back in the team on the bench for today’s friendly

Forest will be in trouble this season. They'll do well to avoid relegation, I reckon.

I think they will struggle in attack this year compared to last as they did over achieve. Christopher won’t be knocking on 20 goals this year. More likely back to 10.

But their defence is absolutely solid.

No way they will be dragged into the relegation scrap with the promoted teams and the likes of Wolves.

Defence is too good and will predict them to finish around 12th to 14th.

That feels optimistic. No team can defend for a whole season. But Elanga had pace that gave him the edge. It really depends on this new striker, plus Silva and how they respond.
I don’t want to be negative, but last season they had a good season off the back of a strong finish the year before and a good off season.  Haven’t seen much from them this off season. And the EPL is an unforgiving competition.

On the other hand, they were 4th for a good part of last season. 🤷‍♂️

Off to Swansea City?

09 Aug 20:21
Wood starts as expected but more importantly Stamenic is on the bench so hopefully some more minutes for him now the 2nd half is underway
09 Aug 20:47
Next up Brentford.

Let’s see if Stamenic is involved in the 20 man squad the following Monday. MGW will come back in and I doubt any new signings will be made by then either.

Seeing he’s been getting minutes till this late on pre season maybe he could be sticking around as their 6th choice midfielder? Cup games starter and Bench guy in the prem/europa.

I’d love to go see him get 90 minutes elsewhere week in week out but Forest may have tied him down to provide backup throughout this season with Europe.

Still 3 weeks left in the window so let’s see. But I don’t exactly hate the idea of him being  on the bench for Forest and getting appearances here and there with some cup games hopefully.

He can always test the water for the first 4 months of the season and then go off in January if he’s not getting what he wants + having another Kiwi in the Premier League would be insane!
09 Aug 21:36
Great for his development even he is on the bench 90% of the time. Training day in day out at that intensity can only help him to develop.
09 Aug 21:39
I agree in the short term. Training at that level and sitting on the bench and getting a few minutes in the EPL would be great for a young player. But after a while he'd plateau...he needs to be playing week in, week out...even more when we consider it's WC year

With internationals, there should be six games against big opposition, two in each of the windows:

Sept
Oct
Nov

Not that it's Forest's priority, but I wonder if one 70+ mins in Europa and one spell of bench is enough to keep some momentum and match sharpness, before a loan in January for regular. (Only other window in the season is in March).
Supporting the supporters and love an away day anywhere in the world. Kiwis Can Fly!

Also got League Cup games coming up.
09 Aug 23:10
The internationals will keep him a float till January because he’s a lock to start.

But from Janurary onwards I’d like to see him join a EFL team to really rack up the minutes before the World Cup.

If he/they don’t wanna loan him out in this window and keep him for midfield cover until January then that’s fine for him to have a good nudge at pushing into their midfield rotation.

If that doesn’t happen then he needs to find a loan move to a preferably top 6 EFL side or a top 5 league.

Or he does well and earns more game time?!

Sort of cool to think that when the AWs run out against the Socceroos, about 5 of the starting lineup will be signed with clubs in the top two English tiers.

Here, starting with the likeliest as things stand, are five players who could end New Zealand’s wait for a seventh Premier League player.

Stamenic, Bindon, Paulsen, Cacace & Surman

August 14, 2010 was a special day in Winston Reid’s football career.

Fresh from starring for the All Whites at the FiFA World Cup in South Africa, the centre back secured a big move from FC Midtjylland in Denmark to West Ham United in England.

On the opening day of the 2010-11 season, he then made his Premier League debut away to Aston Villa, becoming the sixth Kiwi to do so.

But 15 years on, he remains the most recent New Zealander to take their first steps in the world’s leading men’s club football competition.

Stamenić has been linked with a loan move to Championshp club Swansea City,
which may explain why he has gained American hip-hop maestro Snoop Dogg – a minority owner of the Welsh club – as an Instagram follower recently. An earlier report that he was headed back to Greek giants Olympiakos – where he was last season – appears to have been off the mark.

Don’t think we will be seeing Stamenic go out on loan this window.

Seeing the interview on NZF’s website with Woodsy and him mentioning how they could potentially be playing up to 60 games this season, makes me think they’ll need to keep him around.

Won’t be a big surprise if he’s missing on the team sheets come match day on Monday morning but once Europa League and the Cup games start to come then I think we’ll see him amongst it.

They’re gonna need a full 24 man and more as Woodsy mentioned. One or two injuries/suspensions in that midfield though for Forest and Stamenic will be right in there.

They’re quite light in the DM/CM department at this point in the window with only Anderson, Yates, Sangere and Dominguez (Injured) then Stamenic.

MGW will run the AM role whilst it looks like new signing McAtee could provide cover there or be put out onto the wing.
14 Aug 05:08
I also think while unproven at the level from Stamenic's point of view it probably makes a lot of sense to stick around and snatch a spot where possible. I'd imagine his outlook is "I've won three european doubles back to back. Of course I am ready for this level."

There's a way of looking at what hes accomplished so far in his career that it isn't a mad raving looney idea to feel a stint in the premier league is justified.
14 Aug 07:07
He also isn't a flashy player so won't grab headlines but it doesn't mean he can't add value.
14 Aug 23:36
Still every chance Stamenic is loaned out by the end of the month, even if he makes the squad this weekend imo. Looks like Forest will be making a number of late signings, in part due to the confirmation of their participation in the Europa League which only became official this week. That said, a lot of the rumours appear to be about more attacking players than Stamenic, so you never know.
15 Aug 05:45
Seen an article from ‘Nottingham Forest News’ that Carmo, Stamenić and Richard’s have all been given the clear to go out on loan or find permanent deals by Nuno.

Seems like this last 2 weeks of the window Mr Marinakias will be spending big time. Reportedly another 3 signings on the way and could ice the cake with Douglas Luiz.

That being said they need space on the squad for those transfers to happen and it seems those 3 are the ones that will need to leave to make that room.

For Stamenić ideally a championship loan. (Swansea City move is all bluff I believe) But last year he didn’t want the Coventry move tells me he doesn’t want to be there.

In that case a move to a Top 5 league mid table side would satisfy me. Said it before but Serie A/Bundesliga I feel would very much suit his game.

Does he really have the to option to be to choosey this late into the transfer market. He and the AWs need him playing and he may not have the options to pick and choose if that is the case he is on the outer at Forest.

GET YOUR SHIRTS OFF FOR THE BOYS

15 Aug 07:08
Fair point for sure. This is why I’m not a huge fans of these last minute moves.

I understand clubs need time to assess players in pre season but telling them they’ve got 2 weeks essentially to find a perfect fit for them in a World Cup year is a serious crime.

Garbett and his team made things difficult for themselves and he’s ended up at a bottom end ish League One club. Not the worst case but considering he was starting eredivise games last season. Massive drop off.

Stamenic for example was probably never gonna be a realistic option for Forest this year. They’re a underrated big money club in that midfield pack of Prem Clubs. No surprise they’re spending big late in the window.

Let’s see what unfolds with him though.

I think the crux of the matter is Forest being promoted from Conference League, to the more lucrative Europa League in the last 1-2 weeks. That's after Palace were demoted from Europa.

So Marinakias now has some extra cash to spend, and Stamenic and others get let go very late in the window. If Swansea want & have a plan for him maybe he should just go there until January at least.

As he hasn't yet played a competitive game for Forest, I think he could in theory go on two different loan deals this season??

From memory Waine was stuck at Mansfield Town last season (ie couldn't go on a 2nd loan elsewhere), as he played Plymouth's opening season game in The Championship.
15 Aug 07:34
As we speak just seen Sky Sports interview with Nuno.

Basically mentioned that Forest are well behind the 8 Ball in terms of Preparation for their first couple games. The European situation with palace, then the MGW situation unfolding for 2 odd weeks before it got resolved.

He mentions there are players that are ‘ working that know they’re gonna go out on loan ‘

Unfortunately those loan deals have been cast aside because it seems Forest haven’t been able to make the signings early enough due to circumstances.

Now they’re gonna bolster their squad with Hutinchson, McAtee and maybe Douglas Luiz too leaving no room for Stamenic.

Expecting a loan deal in the next 7-10 days based off that interview.

I think Wrexham could be a good destination for him

BBC sport Wales are reporting that Swansea are close to signing him on a permanent deal, and Wales Online say the medical is today. Can't stand the Jacks, but begrudgingly I'd have to admit that they do look like they'll have a much better season this year so could be a decent move. A centre half pairing of Cabango and Burgess with Marco screening in front should be very, very good at that level.
Annual finals disappointment enthusiast.

Permanent or load deal? cannot understand why Forest would sign him and then sell him in same off season if permanent move

He was signed by Forest a tick over a year ago in the last off season, before being loaned out to Olympiakos for 24/25.

Wonder how much Swansea are forking out for Stamenić. Haven’t seen any fees reported yet so will be interesting.

Looks like Forest will lose money on him too. Surprised it’s permanent though, wonder if that was demanded by Stamenic’s side.

Swansea play the Blades tonight, pity he wasnt signed earlier

Saw that interview with Nuno- must be hard hearing that as a squad player no matter what dose of humility and reason you have.

Just hope he has a solid year- if he does he’ll turn heads at the world cup and make it to the EPL that way…
16 Aug 08:30
Why did they even buy him in the first place?
16 Aug 08:56
Exactly my thoughts. It was definitely a signing for Olympiacos. But they’ll lose money on him now so wtf was the whole point?

The Premier League is ruthless. If the coach doesn't believe a player is good enough currently or in the future, they will happily offload the player for a loss, as long as it's not too extreme.

They didn't pay that much for Stamenic, in PL context.
16 Aug 11:16
Punk, don’t seem to be able to get Swansea games through the app. No Old, no Stamenic. I’ll try asking them about it. Stamenic or Bell the guys most likely to break through. But all our boys it seems getting a lesson in the cut throat business of the football pyramid.
Libby has a decent game, but McClean has a good one and he’s missing from selection. Probably injured, but still…hopefully Garbett gets his start plays and tears it up.

Have been a heap of players on Forest’s books last few seasons with zero actual appearances. Known offenders
