Gotta be someone Wellington Phoenix related in Bali…find him, go out for drinks, say he had to take his passport as ID, get him on a flight to New Zealand that night and get pen to paper…

He’s not drinking, it’s a fitness boot camp apparently.

Lights out at 8pm, up at 5am.

No chance of a kidnapping for a Nix fan

I don’t see him coming back to New Zealand. He’s been on the rise the last 5 years over in Europe so I don’t think he’s gonna wanna take a step back anytime now.

Garbett went over to Europe when he turned 17 albeit he was at Torslanda.

But his intentions have been clear from a young age and that’s to play in Europe.

Someone send him a twitter message or similar and ask him - what's up, NZF fans are waiting on some good news, give us something.

He comes across as a bit of a cheekly lad to me, so I can imagine he would love giving out a cryptic clue etc.

Have messaged a couple of his Óle cohorts. They likely won't give up too much, but worth a shot. 🙃

Then tell him about these amazing training facilities and get him on the plane…

Dont you mean he WAS on the rise. A boot camp in Bali isnt indicative of someone on teams radar at this stage of the European pre season. Really dont see how he can continue to have WC spot if he isnt playing.

Left side of the attack is the one place Corica hasn't nailed down. Francois way to one footed (and the wrong one) for wide left, easy to read.

Saying that he has predominantly played left wing/attacking midfield for the All Whites.

AFC, will also likely set up with their two import defensive midfielders. An import upfront leading the line and three behind in May, Rogerson on the right and a domestic player on the left.  That could be Garbett as Francois and Gillion haven’t nailed that role.

The way Randall and Gillion took their goals might make it tough for him to get a spot there!

What are the chances of him ending up at the Vic, City or SFC? Failing that he’s currently not far from Japan or Korea. I have strong feeling NZ is completely off the radar.

See Sh817 (Garbett himself/Garbett family) above.

Yeah I can see him at one of the big Aussie teams. Do a Rojas and tear it up for a year or two, then back to Europe.

Nothing really to report back from my digging. Something is in the works, but it's not their story to tell.

They run a pretty tight ship that crew. Got to respect it to be fair.

Good on ya for having a punt mate.

Quite frustrating that this is an ongoing thing.

Garbett & Stamenic seem like they’re both gonna be putting in extra yards come start of their respective seasons wherever that might be. Stamenic hasn’t been with Forest for the last 2 weeks now and there is no rumblings of anything. Garbett has had nothing football related since All Whites nearly 2 months ago.

I understand it’s not that easy for players to just pick a club and go wherever they want etc especially us kiwis.

But man as a player heading into a World Cup year with zero club and zero pre season, I’d be asking serious questions to my agent about what the hold up is.

End of the day Garbett is a capable Eredivise level player and Stamenic is a UCL level player. They’re not new fish in the pond by any stretch.

At least Stamenic has a club so is probably headed somewhere for games you would have to hope.
Garbett completely different not sure how people can consider him up for a WC spot if he isnt playing regularly  somewhere half decent.

I don’t think Garbett has proved himself an Eredivisie level player yet. Potentially a good player at the level. Longevity, temperament and resilience are also factors.

Not sure how legit this rumour is but considering that’s where he’s based nowadays it probably has truth to it.

Would be disappointing to see him end up in Indonesia if it comes to be. Football over there is definitely on the rise but I doubt the domestic league is anything great.

That would be a bad smell- two young players knocking on the door of Europe, albeit at different levels, in a World Cup year where they could have break out games choose to go to SE Asia.

No disrespect, but it would be a difficult place to come back from. And with a lot more professional options in NZ as a fall back too makes it even more strange.

Might just be based on him training in Bali though? Even though that’s odd in and of itself…

You are right something potentially does not smell right here.

Does anyone know if either NZ A league club has expressed an interest in him and had a chat to him and his agent?

If not, then well something is truely rotten.

I say fake news.

Edit - oh and Dyer is 28 yr old, hasn't been in the AWs for about 5 years and has had really a journeyman type career. Has a fiance so yeah fair enough he's taking the almost tax free cash in Cambodia, knowing his playing time could be ending in a year or so. Gotta get into that Auckland housing market some how.

Very different to 22 yr old Garbett. Why would he sign for an Indonesian club (lowly 14th in their league last season), when the NZ ALM clubs are there as a short term one season option, if all other prospects are exhausted. That would seriously put his WC (big shop window) dreams at risk.

I'd put money on the Thai League.

Hope it’s us. He’s been one of our main forces for the AWs.

But even if it is the Blues Boys, that’d be better than dropping down further leagues.

If he goes to a Thai league he can't make the World Cup squad... the level is too low.

Not Kian Donkers or Lachlan Brook is it?

Regardless - Don't think I've ever seen such a complete rounding on a rumoured move from all and sundry on here. And I'm in complete agreement with all of you.

Just got an update from my Garbett sauce. They may pop on here for a read from time to time!

Bali time over, and Matt G is now up in Europe. Touch wood closer to announcing his next club. Seems like being in Bali was all about a Kiwi 22 year old needing to be somewhere cheapest to train for a month or so.

That's all my sauce would reveal. But that should lessen the angst on here for a bit.

Let's not forget that the European transfer market hasn't closed yet. Besides, he could sign anytime as he's a free agent.
He's probably worried about where he is going to sign next, given that it's a WC year. He'll want to go somewhere that allows him to keep his AW spot. Hopefully he lands somewhere soon

He can sign anytime, but can't be registered anytime. If he misses the window, he can't play till Jan regardless of being a free agent or not.

Anything on Garbett? Looking more likely he’ll miss this window vs Australia.

Still haven’t seen a squint of a rumour about anything on my ends. Still plenty of time but disappointing that he’s gonna be well behind the 8 ball wherever he goes to start the season.

Looking likely that it’s gonna be something of that kind of calibre.

Would be shocked if a top tier team at any level in Europe took on a player at this time of the window that hasn’t played a club game since January.

Would’ve thought after last season ended he’d be one of our first boys to get his club sorted for this season but he’s turning out to be the absolute last!

With Just, McCowatt, Old and Rogerson presumably all playing regularly at their respective levels this season, he’s gonna fall well behind them if they continue to all grow.

Not to mention if a guy like LBS breaks out at the Phoenix this year he could be a bolter for that World Cup squad.

His only real good season was with Breda when they were in Div 2.
So he's still got a lot to prove.
A-league would be a good reset for him. Better than seeing him end up somewhere like LOI.

The angst is coming close to an end.

My sauce says expect a new club reveal in the next 2-3 days, maybe even tomorrow.

Be interesting to see if Baze picks him for September window. That squad should be announced next week. Lots of phone calls happening no doubt.

I'm picking Norway or Germany.

No particular reason. 😋

He apparently flew from Bali to London. Of course that may mean absolutely nothing.

But like someone above I'm gonna guess is a League One destination. Maybe Waine put in a word for him at Port Vale.

Who really knows. Whatever club it is has done a great job, keeping it a total secret.

Edit - hopefully not Norway as their season will be over in about 3 months, as the snow closes in.
